3 nights at Basecamp Flint Hills

Awesome spot for a trip to the Flint Hills. Was in town for a gravel race and this was the perfect spot to stay. Right on the Flint Hill Trail and access to tons of gravel riding from camp. The hosts, Amy and Darius, are great, super welcoming and very communicative. Will definitely stay here again! Thank you both!!!

Space was in great shape. Everything had greened up nicely. The new shower location is a big improvement and all the facilities were well maintained as usual.

Manicured, well kept campsites. Clean toilet and shower. The property has a fantastic layout for tents, trailers, rvs & hammocks. The kitchen and picnic area is topnotch. Basecamp Flint Hills is obviously loved by the amazing hosts.

I enjoyed my stay at BCFH during Flint Hills Gravel. It was great to have a Basecamp to return to (with excellent al fresco shower) after 127 miles of open roads and wind. Good folks to share a hang with after and Amy & Darius are great hosts.

The sleep shack was amazing!! After a long day on the bike it was nice to be able to sleep on a bed instead of an air mattress in a tent. Was nice and roomy and the fan gave us plenty of air movement since it wasn’t hot outside yet. Would definitely stay here again!

I love Basecamp Flint Hills and the Sleeping Shack makes this place even better! This is my favorite place to stay in the Flint Hills Trail and would recommend it to everyone. I will be back!

I enjoyed my 2 night stay. It was quiet and the people were friendly. Amy was excellent in providing very important trail information. They were burning so she alerted me that it was recommended to stay off the trail to the west. Great communication. Booking was extremely easy, once I got to the campground and used the QR code.

Great site for primitive campers. Secluded location, quiet, remote. It had new water lines and a make shift outdoor shower house and an outhouse. Had it been warmer I would have used the shower.

We had such a wonderful time staying at Eric's land. It was secluded and peaceful, just like we were looking for. We wished we could have stayed longer enjoying the calm of mother nature around us, disconnected from everything. Eric was extremely helpful in providing directions and ensuring that our camping spot was secluded. Eric's land is a perfect place to camp and enjoy the beautiful serene surroundings.

Great spot to camp when visiting Emporia. Close to town, but also far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. Brenda was exceptional the entire duration of my stay. The location has everything you need. Would love to come back here again!

We loved the peace and quiet off the beaten path. Our rescue dog Gemma loved the wide open spaces- she ran and played until she was exhausted. Brenda is great host, helping us find her farm when we “got lost!” Total hookups. You can hear the trains in the distance. Best night’s sleep in days.

Weekend Trip to Basecamp Flint Hills

I chose this place because it looked like a quiet and safe area to spend the night while I was solo traveling with my dog from Colorado to Missouri. We got in later around 10pm, spent the night in our 18ft RV, did a little nature walk in the morning, and then headed out at 9am. It was everything we needed. We went in November/off-season so we had the whole place to ourselves. I'd recommend and would visit in the future again.

So, being so close to the city and having this space that is secluded and peaceful, it seemed only fair to share it with someone who is interested in the same thing. You are welcome to walk the farm and see the animals, please do not feed the animals or enter their stalls or pens without permission and the presence of our staff. Staff does live on the farm, we do lock gates at night, you can have access to come and go at any time. If you need gates unlocked, we are just a phone call away. When checking in, please confirm your location! Camping at the horse farm The Circle of Trees Secluded by the city Please note we do have LGD on the farm, and they do visit. They are friendly and used to people. There are farm animals and wild animals on our sites. All Dogs are required to be current on vaccinations and kept on a leash at all times. While cruising the winding backroads of the Flint Hills to the property, you will immediately become enchanted by the peaceful scenery, beautiful skies with striking cloud formations, wind swirling through the trees, an abundance of animal life, and the flora and fauna. When you arrive at the property, hosts Kirt and Kim will be there to greet you with a smile, and give you a tour of the grounds. And, if you are lucky, Kim will bring you a basket of fresh baked goods. Farm dogs Charlie and Buddy, no doubt, will be there to tag along on your tour - but not to worry, they are friendly dogs who keep guard over the chickens and goats, and are sure to become your two new best friends. After your tour of the vast and serene property, you will be shown to one of the three group tents, or the more secluded tent on the other side of the property - depending on which tent(s) you reserved. All of the glamping tents are safari style with spacious interiors and luxurious details you are sure to love. The three group tents can sleep up to 4 each, and are furnished with a queen and two twin-sized beds, along with cozy decor. There is no electricity in the tents, but there are lanterns and solar lights to help guide your way back to your retreat after dark. The group tent area also includes a community fire pit for late night S'mores, another outdoor area with a gazebo and a grill, and an enclosed outhouse and shower. The secluded tent is for those who want a little more privacy. This tent is furnished with a queen size bed, and is stylishly decorated. This tent also includes a fire pit, private outdoor seating area with grill, and a private enclosed outhouse and shower. Along with the incredible tents, Dry Creek Post also offers many perks that bring guests back time after time. There is a shared outdoor kitchen with a grill, sink, propane oven, and an outdoor dining table large enough to seat 10, plus, the Rowdy Rooster Clubhouse. The Rowdy Rooster is the infamous clubhouse that is always a hit with guests. This clubhouse is original to the property, and was renovated by owners, Kim and Kirt, for guest use. Along with the hand-painted "Texaco" sign on the floor, the clubhouse has a rustic feel, and gives you the feeling that you have stepped back in time, or into a really cool bar in the city. The Rowdy Rooster includes a bar area, mini fridge, table and chairs, popcorn machine, lots of games, and blankets for chilly nights. Its the perfect spot to sit and play cards, have a few cocktails, or an impromptu dance party. The Rowdy Rooster also has an attached deck with seating, another fire pit, and a movie screen for special movie nights! While there are many activities at Dry Creek Post to keep you busy, there are also many scenic places to visit in the area. Some of those locations include Chase State Fishing Lake, Council Grove Lake, Herington City Lakes, Flint Hills Scenic Byway, Flint Hills Wildfire Drive, Marion Reservoir, and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. There are also many cultural events in the area, including the Flint Hills Rodeo, Unbound Gravel, and Symphony in the Flint Hills. You'll also want to make a stop at the historic Chase County Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls, an Italianate architectural stunner that is still in use today. After visiting the courthouse, there are shops, an art gallery, antique shops, and spots to eat, so go out and wander the charming downtown area and support the local community.
