The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato. After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby.We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

One of the most beautiful places in Hawai`i. We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road). Nearly are places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park). We are also close to civilization and Kualoa Ranch.
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

For guests unfamiliar with the Big Island, it is not like the other islands people travel to. If Oahu is more Americanized, the Big Island is still more of a Polynesian Island. Our property allows guests to enjoy a genuine local experience.
The cabins have power and endless hot water. All water on property is rainwater harvested from our roof!
At night your ears will be greeted by the forest with sounds of coqui frogs. Many people love them 🐸 Please search for Bathing Suits and Rain Boots on YouTube to find a video of what our property sounds like at night. Our channel also features videos of tours we offer. More to be uploaded, check back often! Our tours include off the beaten path adventures ranging from sunrises and geothermal Kings baths, to prawn hunting to hikes that lead to waterfalls! They are all local gems that you will not find online or offered by any other tour guide agency. We are updating our ig @bathingsuitsandrainboots regularly with footage from adventures as well!
Beach gear such as surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel gear is also available. There is a detailed welcome packet with a variety of mostly free but some paid must see/do activities on the island!
There are a total of 4 cabins on the one acre lot. The owners are on property, other guests may or may not be here as well. There is a dog Valentine, two outdoor cats named Ghost and Tomi, and chickens/ducks.
Each cabin has a queen mattress. We rent both cabins out for larger groups.
Jungle massages are available on site starting at $100 for the hour.
Please note the main image capturing a lava cliff sunrise is not visible from the cabin. It is about a 30-40 minute drive from us 🌊 ☀️ 🌋
We are at 1880ft elevation so it can get chilly at night. Winters are also rainy season so if traveling to the Big Island in the winter, I suggest some light layers for warmth, a raincoat and rain boots.

Weekend Trip to Rainforest Gradens
This stay was unlike any other campsite I’ve booked this summer. My favorite part of the experience was the rain. It rained every day I was here, and the view from the cabin was refreshingly peaceful and spectacular.
One of the most unique features of the cabin is the open roof cover, where lilikoi vines grow up and through the structure out front, producing passion fruit and creating a beautiful green canopy. Red hibiscus flowers are scattered throughout the property, along with mango and banana trees. The open landscape also provides beautiful views of the sunrise and sunset.
The outdoor shower is nearby and has warm water from a solar water heater. The cabin feels private enough to keep the doors open at night and enjoy the fresh air. The property is gated, and you can park your vehicle conveniently near the unit.
Because of the frequent rain, the property can get muddy. I’d recommend bringing rain boots, hiking boots, or Crocs, or simply going barefoot if you enjoy connecting your feet to the earth.
The location is also a great spot for exploring the North Shore and is near Puʻu O Mahuka Heiau State Historic Site. Whether you’re interested in visiting nearby cultural and historic sites or simply enjoying the scenery of the North Shore.
I don’t meet the hosts at every location I stay at, so I especially appreciated the hospitality here. I was given fresh passion fruit and strawberry guava, a small red fruit commonly found around Oʻahu and often used to make jam.

Weekend Trip to The Kikala Waterfall Lodge
Wonderful cabin! WE loved hearing the river as we sat on the lanai and as we slept! The common-area building is fully stocked with cooking equipment, and there are two full bathrooms.
Swimming below the enarby waterfall on the property was a joy. But we were only there for less than 24 hours. I am sure there is much more!

2 nights at Hamakua Guesthouse
We stayed in 3 places on the island and this was by far our favorite. There was plenty of space, it was clean and lovely, well stocked kitchen, and the setting was beautiful including the swimming hole with waterfall! (which sadly we didn't get to go in as we were out so much)...as others have said, I would have liked to have stayed there longer and just enjoyed the property. Everything about it was easy and convenient. They even had a TV and DVD collection- though we were mostly offline for our week in Hawaii, it was perfect to watch a silly. movie on one of the nights. Would definitely go back, thank you Hamakua Guest House (Rover View Family House)!

We enjoyed our stay at the Tranquil Duck. It was nice and cool, which was great after a hot day. The shower was nice and we enjoyed coffee with the ducks and pea fowl. They were so cute! Very comfortable and a nice stay close to volcano national park and Hilo. We would love to come back!

Weekend Trip to Charming Kahuku camp
Beautiful farm in a great location to access the north shore and very close to the Polynesian cultural center. We loved how welcoming the hosts were! They were excited to share their farm and offered us lots of fresh fruit. The Aloha Mini lodging is simple and small (can’t stand up inside) but comfy! The one thing to be aware of is lots of mosquitoes, but that is to be expected in this area of the island, and our host even offered us bug repellent.

The bungahigh was such a wonderful experience !! Amazing place to wake up in the morning, comfortable bed, clean sheets, and incredible views. Nancy & Richard are such kind and welcoming hosts. Nancy welcomed us with homemade banana bread. I would reccomend to all my friends!

Weekend Trip to The Tranquil Homestead
We loved Christopher and Esther's little homestead! The location was perfect: secluded and serene, but close enough to Hilo and Volcano. The ducks and peafowl absolutely made the trip. It brought us so much joy seeing them all waddle down to our spot to greet us, even if all they wanted was for us to feed them duck food! The place was clean, the kitchen was well stocked, and the hosts were super helpful and friendly. Will definitely be booking this again!

My husband and I stayed at Guava Cabin and absolutely loved it. It felt so quiet and private, and we loved hearing the birds all throughout the day and night. Falling asleep to the sound of the rain was perfect and made the whole experience feel so peaceful and relaxing. The hosts were also incredibly friendly and welcoming which made our stay even better. We’re already excited to come back and stay longer next time! :) Thank you!!

My brother and dad stayed at Ohia Cabin and had such a great time! They said it was the perfect size for two people and loved how quiet and private it felt. Being surrounded by the jungle made it feel so peaceful and connected to nature. Definitely a unique and relaxing stay!

6 nights at Cozy jungle 2-Bedroom Cabin
I loved the private location, the mesmerizing sound of the Koki frogs, the wild pigs and piglets, roosters, pheasants and chickens. The resident cats and dog were sweet and Christophe and Bonnie were just lovely people. We rented Scooters and visited many shoreline access points, and the recommendations for places to eat and check out were on point! Reading in the hammock and the hanging pod were favourites of ours, it was such a great home base for our Adventuring.

We stayed here for two nights with my wife. Even beyond what the reviews and photos show, Christopher & Esther were truly wonderful hosts, and The Tropical Duck is a beautiful place filled with charming animals.
If you’ve found this place, I highly recommend staying here. The cabin had everything we needed, and everything was clean and very comfortable. We also tried the optional duck eggs for the first time—they were very large and delicious.
Feeding the ducks, seeing peacocks up close, and spending time comfortably surrounded by Hawaii’s great nature was an unforgettable experience. Most of all, it made me so happy that my wife said she wished we could have stayed longer and that she wants to come back again.
Next time we visit Hawaii, we’ll definitely return with our family and children.

Probably the best hip camp we've stayed at yet, I could literally live out of this little cabin. The property is beautiful, the ducks and peacocks were so cute and the hosts Ester and Christopher were very kind. The only thing I'd change is that I wish we booked more nights here.

Clean cabin, helpful and responsive hosts, very quiet atmosphere. No street noise at all, just birds and rain.
There are 2 dogs that can be noisy at times, and can steal your shoes if you leave them outside. Plenty of space inside to store them.
Shower wasn’t working when we arrived but was fixed by the second day.

2 nights at Wahi Nanea Place of Relaxation
Alika’s cabin was great. So well prepared, in a thiughtful way. Beds were comfortable. Bedding clean and warm. Cabin spotless clean. There was solar-paneled light and hot shower. The location is great, too. Very pretty and peaceful. We loved the place and will be back.
