We are located in a very special sweet spot with both jungle and country vibes. You can often see horses while watching whales and dolphins from a nearby lookout, and hear chickens, frogs, goats, dogs, neighborhood cats, many wild birds, a parrot, and even a cow or two in the distance. This property features a huge mango tree, our home, and our massage therapy and yoga studio space with a separate private entrance, along with reliable on-grid power and Wi-Fi, aloe plants in case you get a sunburn, occasional guava, and a hammock between coconut trees. We are very close to a park with covered picnic tables and are easy to find. It’s just a few minutes to the world-famous Punaluʻu Bakery, a short walk to a bus stop and convenience store, less than a 20-minute drive to several beaches or Kahuku and other attractions, about 45 minutes to Volcanoes National Park, and just over an hour from both Kona and Hilo.

Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, and we recommend a 4WD to get to our place, since a recent storm washed our road out. Waiting on FEMA. Go slow, the road is rough and bumpy in places.. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,. This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. Good cell coverage. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

More to be uploaded, check back often! Our tours include off the beaten path adventures ranging from sunrises and geothermal Kings baths, to prawn hunting to hikes that lead to waterfalls! They are all local gems that you will not find online or offered by any other tour guide agency. We are updating our ig @bathingsuitsandrainboots regularly with footage from adventures as well! Beach gear such as surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel gear is also available. There is a detailed welcome packet with a variety of mostly free but some paid must see/do activities on the island! There are a total of 4 cabins on the one acre lot. The owners are on property, other guests may or may not be here as well. There is a dog Valentine, two outdoor cats named Ghost and Tomi, and chickens/ducks. Each cabin has a queen mattress. We rent both cabins out for larger groups. Jungle massages are available on site starting at $100 for the hour. Please note the main image capturing a lava cliff sunrise is not visible from the cabin. It is about a 30-40 minute drive from us 🌊 ☀️ 🌋 We are at 1880ft elevation so it can get chilly at night. Located on the 1983 lava flow field. There are uneven surfaces that require careful attention but is safe for the adventurous and fit. No annoying croaking frogs and no mosquitos makes this sea level location with blue water ocean views and trade wind breezes a perfect paradise with very little rain and lots of sunshine. There a 10' x 12' raised deck gazebo with a picnic table and ample surfaces for exercising and stretch yoga. We are a few minutes from the black sand clothing optional beach and clean ocean soaking/swimming and Uncle Robert's Wednesday night music extravaganza. There are refrigerators available and a composting toilet and a hot water shower for conservative water showering as all water must be transported in. The advantage is very little rain and lots of sunshine makes this location a pleasure with fluffy clouds to look at that don't get you wet!!! 2 furnished small houses and a gazebo with ample parking space and solar charging for electronics. Starlink WiFi is available and will provide connectivity and cell phone links ! Your host Dani aka Gilligan has your best experience in mind and is eager to share local knowledge and fun island facts and insights through decades of island life in all of Polynesia! The bungahigh was such a wonderful experience !! Amazing place to wake up in the morning, comfortable bed, clean sheets, and incredible views. Nancy & Richard are such kind and welcoming hosts. Nancy welcomed us with homemade banana bread. I would reccomend to all my friends!

This could not have been a more perfect stay for my time on Big Island. Justine was so kind, thoughtful, and attentive to the reason for my trip to Hawaii. I was there to integrate the loss of my two pups, and with a grieving heart I felt so incredibly loved and taken care of by Justine. Her land is stunning and felt blessed to have permission to eat some bananas, try different foods, and have the option for fresh coconut from the property. I enjoyed learning about the life she’s created for herself as it was an absolute inspiration for me; knowing I too can create the same thing for myself. Communication and connection with her was effortless, and even bonded over a small issue with my rental LOL, girl power! One of my favorite things was the outdoor shower; LOVED being amongst the nature, wild and free. The bed was super comfy too. The comfort of the bed when traveling is a huge must; rest is important to me when I’m away from home. Yes, you will hear the frogs at night and will be woken up to the beautiful sound of roosters and birds in the morning (no sarcasm, I truly enjoyed nature’s alarm like and being witness to the cyclical aspects of nature). It’s not for everyone, yet if you know you have trouble sleeping don’t let that detour you from staying here. Come prepared; I know I don’t sleep well in general, any time I travel I bring ear plugs and my sound machine. Simple solutions. Thank you again Justine, you truly are a magical person and am grateful to have met you.

My husband and I stayed at Guava Cabin and absolutely loved it. It felt so quiet and private, and we loved hearing the birds all throughout the day and night. Falling asleep to the sound of the rain was perfect and made the whole experience feel so peaceful and relaxing. The hosts were also incredibly friendly and welcoming which made our stay even better. We’re already excited to come back and stay longer next time! :) Thank you!!

My brother and dad stayed at Ohia Cabin and had such a great time! They said it was the perfect size for two people and loved how quiet and private it felt. Being surrounded by the jungle made it feel so peaceful and connected to nature. Definitely a unique and relaxing stay!

Thomas’ land/cottage is the perfect place for a remote, comfortable night close to Volcano National Park. He is a very gracious host and willing to assist you in any way necessary. I definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap, yet comfortable place to stay.

We stayed here for two nights with my wife. Even beyond what the reviews and photos show, Christopher & Esther were truly wonderful hosts, and The Tropical Duck is a beautiful place filled with charming animals. If you’ve found this place, I highly recommend staying here. The cabin had everything we needed, and everything was clean and very comfortable. We also tried the optional duck eggs for the first time—they were very large and delicious. Feeding the ducks, seeing peacocks up close, and spending time comfortably surrounded by Hawaii’s great nature was an unforgettable experience. Most of all, it made me so happy that my wife said she wished we could have stayed longer and that she wants to come back again. Next time we visit Hawaii, we’ll definitely return with our family and children. Thank you so much, Christopher & Esther!

Probably the best hip camp we've stayed at yet, I could literally live out of this little cabin. The property is beautiful, the ducks and peacocks were so cute and the hosts Ester and Christopher were very kind. The only thing I'd change is that I wish we booked more nights here.

Clean cabin, helpful and responsive hosts, very quiet atmosphere. No street noise at all, just birds and rain. There are 2 dogs that can be noisy at times, and can steal your shoes if you leave them outside. Plenty of space inside to store them. Shower wasn’t working when we arrived but was fixed by the second day.

The tree frog serenade must be heard to be believed. If you're looking for an inexpensive and beautiful place to stay near Volcanoes, Yip Camp is great -- has a marine toilet, an enclosed shower with hot water, and Thomas keeps fresh batteries in numerous lanterns for you to use. They're in the middle of a fern and 'ohia tree forest. Thomas and Yip the dog are friendly and courteous. Don't be put off by the drive on a dirt road -- there are plenty of those in Big Island upcountry!

This is a special place, accessible, private and well maintained. The yip cottage with a hot shower is fun and well appointed. Even with other campers on site there was plenty of room and privacy. Small frogs sing you a lullaby at night, and ducks welcome you in the morning. Our kids especially loved the ducks and peacocks! We had plenty of privacy, along with great support from Chris and Esther whenever we needed it. An additional advantage of staying here is that it’s an off-grid place, so even during storms, when the public electricity is down, you still have power. The location is also great — very close to Volcanoes National Park, which made exploring the area easy and convenient. We had a wonderful stay at Tropical Duck and an amazing experience with the hosts — we would love to come back one day.

The place was just perfect for what we needed, a safe and dry place to rest, meet great and nice people and eat fresh organic fruits (and a connection for the freshest tuna!). We were able to cook our meal from everthing off the farm in the rustic cabana kitchen. The hot showers were a plus! Thanks for the memorable time!
