Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park
nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

For guests unfamiliar with the Big Island, it is not like the other islands people travel to. If Oahu is more Americanized, the Big Island is still more of a Polynesian Island. Our property allows guests to enjoy a genuine local experience.
The cabins have power and endless hot water. All water on property is rainwater harvested from our roof!
At night your ears will be greeted by the forest with sounds of coqui frogs. Many people love them 🐸 Please search for Bathing Suits and Rain Boots on YouTube to find a video of what our property sounds like at night. Our channel also features videos of tours we offer. More to be uploaded, check back often! Our tours include off the beaten path adventures ranging from sunrises and geothermal Kings baths, to prawn hunting to hikes that lead to waterfalls! They are all local gems that you will not find online or offered by any other tour guide agency. We are updating our ig @bathingsuitsandrainboots regularly with footage from adventures as well!
Beach gear such as surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel gear is also available. There is a detailed welcome packet with a variety of mostly free but some paid must see/do activities on the island!
There are a total of 4 cabins on the one acre lot. The owners are on property, other guests may or may not be here as well. There is a dog Valentine, two outdoor cats named Ghost and Tomi, and chickens/ducks.
Each cabin has a queen mattress. We rent both cabins out for larger groups.
Jungle massages are available on site starting at $100 for the hour.

We are at 1880ft elevation so it can get chilly at night. Winters are also rainy season so if traveling to the Big Island in the winter, I suggest some light layers for warmth, a raincoat and rain boots.

We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, and we recommend a 4WD to get to our place, since a recent storm washed our road out. Waiting on FEMA. Go slow, the road is rough and bumpy in places..
Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot!
The silence is golden and the stars are amazing.
Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping.
It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things.
The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water.
Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet.
This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. WE HAVE WIFI. Good cell coverage.
The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing!
Our glamping cabins are in the front 2 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig or the mouflon sheep. Our property backs up to the Manuka Forest Reserve.

We relish the natural benefits of off-grid living, such as solar panels and soon rainwater harvesting. Our homestead offers the comfort of shelter along with a camping feel. Therefore, beyond the hot water shower, this campsite has no potable or running water available . Please bring your own water for drinking, and personal needs.
We have great respect for the Aina. We are mindful of noise levels as to respect the nature, retreat residence and any other campers onsite.

Enjoy the stunning 90 - 100 degree ocean views of Hawaii Island's Western Coastline, as well as the new Volcanic Vent (Known as Fissure 8) created by the 2018 Eruption of the Kileaua Volcano.
The Hawaii Volcano National Park (HVNP) is a 14 mile or 20 minute drive from our campsite. HVNP has a visitor's center to get information about the park, hiking trails throughout its boundaries, steam vents and the awe-inspiring caldera, which is the location of the volcano's lava pool. At night, the glow from the lava in the caldera can be seen at the park.
Our campsite is also an 18 mile or 29 minute drive from the Hilo International Airport and the town of Hilo, Hawaii.

Our land overlooks a 120-foot waterfall with swimming access (river safety conditions permitting), sits at about 1,000 feet elevation, and offers sweeping views of Hilo Bay, Maunakea, and the surrounding rainforest.
This is a working farm and shared living environment. Guests stay in a small collection of rustic cabins, with access to communal spaces designed to support simple, off-grid living. While individual accommodations vary, all guests share a connection to the land, the waterfall, and the rhythms of farm life.
At the heart of the property is our communal barn, which includes a shared kitchen, dining area, and lounge space with panoramic views. Nearby are shared bathrooms with flush toilets and outdoor hot-water showers. These facilities are used by guests and members of our on-site community.
Kulaniapia is intentionally off the grid. Expect dirt roads, uneven paths, wildlife, farm animals, insects, frogs, and nighttime sounds of the rainforest. Electricity is limited in some areas, and this is not a hotel or resort experience. Guests who enjoy nature, simplicity, and a sense of place tend to thrive here.
In addition to the waterfall swimming areas, guests may have the opportunity to join optional experiences such as farm tours, community potlucks, chef-hosted dinners, or guided adventures like waterfall rappelling, farm tours and cooking classes. Weekend Trip to Ember & Fern Retreat
Super cute, cozy, and comfortable. Communication with host was great. Secluded and beautiful flora. We arrived during Nolo and spent our time in the Bee Bungalow, sitting on the covered porch, sipping coffee, listening to the rain and nature sounds as most everything was closed due to the storm. It was a great place to hibernate waiting for the storm to pass. I little slice of heaven.

Esther and Christopher were great hosts, we were warmly welcomed and got a tour of the cabin. Very responsive, communication was great. The cabin was great. Close to the national park, we got to see the eruption and a sky full of stars, it’s so dark there!
The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed and more.
The ducks are awesome!
Thank you Esther and Christopher for making our first trip to Hawaii unforgettable!

We had a lovely stay at Gingerhill. It was a beautiful cottage, perfect outdoor kitchen & shower, equipped with everything we needed. And the location was perfect…close to Kona, but off the grid enough to unplug!

Weekend Trip to Yip Camp and Eco-Retreat Center
Thomas is such an amazing host! He has the coolest jungle property in Fern Forest. Only 15-20minutes from Volcano NP. The cottage is quaint and very comfortable, and the glamping tent sites are an awesome option too! At night, you're treated to a symphony of Coqui tree frog chirps to fall asleep to.
Yip is the sweetest dog who loves to greet people with several ''Yips" but then just wants to sit in your lap and get head scratches.
I can't say enough about my stay.

Weekend Trip to Ilona Farms
I didn't think I would be reminded of sleeping in the rainforest on the Big island. I was lucky enough to be at the cabin during a rainy time and it was magical! The sunset from the side of the mountain is perfect. If you like the sound of nature and birds at night it was perfect. Place was clean and the hosts were incredibly kind and had stellar communication.

10/10 would recommend! Hope you’re feeling “foul” …. the natives are hungry. Be prepared for the welcoming party. The peacocks and ducks are so cute and it felt like we created a unique bond with the farm. It was hurricane Lala and she was creating quite a “whirlwind”. In the eye of the storm the peacock kept watch. I would love to upload a video bc it was surreal. Christopher and Esther were the nicest people. Gracious…kind…helpful… welcoming… they made sure we felt safe and checked in with us the entire stay. I felt like I was visiting friends or family. Truly blessed to have had this opportunity! 6 nights at Sunrise Cabanas Panoramic Views
We fully enjoyed the Opihi Coastal View Cottage and lush environs during our five-day, six-night stay. The yurt was light, airy, clean, well appointed and maintained. The bed/bedding were very comfortable. The shower and toilet were a short distance from the yurt and in good working order. Jasmine and associates were excellent hosts and very knowledgeable about the agricultural and natural history of the area. We highly recommend the edible farm tour!

8 nights at Honaunau Farm
The tea house was such a lovely place stay. Absolutely beautiful views from all directions, gorgeous bird, frog, and other animal sounds - truly a place to shut out the busy world. Steve is great host - gave wonderful suggestions via his guidebook for local restaurants and other necessities, the house has the perfect amenities. Composting toilet is just a short walk away and exceptionally well maintained.
Also - the outdoor shower is to die for!! I’m very afraid this may have set my bar for outdoor showers and that it might never again be reached!

Weekend Trip to The Kikala Waterfall Lodge
Wonderful cabin! WE loved hearing the river as we sat on the lanai and as we slept! The common-area building is fully stocked with cooking equipment, and there are two full bathrooms.
Swimming below the enarby waterfall on the property was a joy. But we were only there for less than 24 hours. I am sure there is much more!

2 nights at Hamakua Guesthouse
We stayed in 3 places on the island and this was by far our favorite. There was plenty of space, it was clean and lovely, well stocked kitchen, and the setting was beautiful including the swimming hole with waterfall! (which sadly we didn't get to go in as we were out so much)...as others have said, I would have liked to have stayed there longer and just enjoyed the property. Everything about it was easy and convenient. They even had a TV and DVD collection- though we were mostly offline for our week in Hawaii, it was perfect to watch a silly. movie on one of the nights. Would definitely go back, thank you Hamakua Guest House (Rover View Family House)!

We enjoyed our stay at the Tranquil Duck. It was nice and cool, which was great after a hot day. The shower was nice and we enjoyed coffee with the ducks and pea fowl. They were so cute! Very comfortable and a nice stay close to volcano national park and Hilo. We would love to come back!

We loved Christopher and Esther's little homestead! The location was perfect: secluded and serene, but close enough to Hilo and Volcano. The ducks and peafowl absolutely made the trip. It brought us so much joy seeing them all waddle down to our spot to greet us, even if all they wanted was for us to feed them duck food! The place was clean, the kitchen was well stocked, and the hosts were super helpful and friendly. Will definitely be booking this again!

7 nights at Farm to Table Hawaii
This could not have been a more perfect stay for my time on Big Island. Justine was so kind, thoughtful, and attentive to the reason for my trip to Hawaii. I was there to integrate the loss of my two pups, and with a grieving heart I felt so incredibly loved and taken care of by Justine. Her land is stunning and felt blessed to have permission to eat some bananas, try different foods, and have the option for fresh coconut from the property. I enjoyed learning about the life she’s created for herself as it was an absolute inspiration for me; knowing I too can create the same thing for myself. Communication and connection with her was effortless, and even bonded over a small issue with my rental LOL, girl power! One of my favorite things was the outdoor shower; LOVED being amongst the nature, wild and free. The bed was super comfy too. The comfort of the bed when traveling is a huge must; rest is important to me when I’m away from home. Yes, you will hear the frogs at night and will be woken up to the beautiful sound of roosters and birds in the morning (no sarcasm, I truly enjoyed nature’s alarm like and being witness to the cyclical aspects of nature). It’s not for everyone, yet if you know you have trouble sleeping don’t let that detour you from staying here. Come prepared; I know I don’t sleep well in general, any time I travel I bring ear plugs and my sound machine. Simple solutions. Thank you again Justine, you truly are a magical person and am grateful to have met you.

My husband and I stayed at Guava Cabin and absolutely loved it. It felt so quiet and private, and we loved hearing the birds all throughout the day and night. Falling asleep to the sound of the rain was perfect and made the whole experience feel so peaceful and relaxing. The hosts were also incredibly friendly and welcoming which made our stay even better. My brother and dad stayed at Ohia Cabin and had such a great time! They said it was the perfect size for two people and loved how quiet and private it felt. Being surrounded by the jungle made it feel so peaceful and connected to nature. Definitely a unique and relaxing stay!
