Experience the tranquil magic that is East Hawaii. Pulelehua is Hawaiian for butterfly and they are plentiful here thanks to their host plants that thrive in our gardens. Leave your laptop at home and come take a soak in the geothermal hot ponds at the end of our road. Just off the scenic Red Road one mile up from the ocean. If you love East Hawaii and eco-friendly accommodations, you'll love our off-grid location! We have maintained a 5-star review and guest favorite rating on another site, but due to the national boycott concerns we have decided to try hosting on this platform. We can provide past reviews upon request. The cabin is a single room with a queen sized bed. There is a covered outdoor minimalist kitchen that includes a refrigerator, propane camp stove, hot and cold sink, filtered bottled water and outdoor seating. Please note that we are off-grid, so there is no microwave oven. Attached to the cabin is an outdoor hot shower on one side and a private composting toilet on the other side. Solar provides electricity for the refrigerator and lamp only. There are no outlets available for high energy use such as hairdryers. Our house is approximately 200ft away with palms and mango trees growing between our house and the cabin. Electric fencing surrounds the entire driveway and building compound. It keeps our local feral pig friends from destroying our driveway and garden area. Parking is provided next to the cabin.Leave any troubles on the mainland. Relax among the butterflies and immerse yourself in the tranquil magic that is East Hawaii. Pulelehua is Hawaiian for butterfly and they are plentiful here among their host plants that thrive in the gardens surrounding our cabin called, "The Merry Monarch." For anyone interested in finding out what minimalistic off-grid living is like before taking that plunge, here's a great opportunity to find out just how doable an off-grid and minimal lifestyle really is! When my life partner, Mary and I first acquired our 5 acre property it was entirely covered with non-native and mostly invasive flora. We are dedicating ourselves to the restoration of native Hawaiian flora as best we can. Our Airbnb guests will also be helping with that restoration whether they are aware of it or not, because we will be purchasing one native tree to plant with every Airbnb booking we receive until further notice. If you happen to have any interest in this, we would love to share with you (upon request) what tree species we have chosen for your booking, along with an update on how the tree is doing one year from planting.
