Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

Volcano Island Farm is located on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. We are 10 minutes from Honokaʻa Town and 20 minutes from Waipiʻo Valley Lookout.
We are a small agricultural farm with gardens, hydroponic greenhouses (coming soon), chickens for eggs, and acres of macadamia nut orchards. Most of the property is open green space with plenty of shade from trees—as long as you don’t mind the occasional falling nut.
We offer two types of camping. Traditional camping is available for guests with their own tent, which can be set up anywhere near the bathhouse in the grass or under a tree.
We also have tents and camping equipment available for use as needed. In addition, we offer the opportunity to stay in our restored Volkswagen van.
The van sleeps a couple very comfortably with a full- to queen-size bed, a swivel chair, and interior lighting. It is cozy and comfortable and includes a picnic table and outdoor lighting in the surrounding area.
The bathhouse is shared among all campers. We typically have no more than four campers at a time, so it is generally easy to share the space. The bathhouse includes a hot shower, sink with mirror, private toilet room, off-grid hot tub (heats in about 20 minutes), and an outdoor deck area for eating or relaxing.
Volcano Island Farm is a calm and quiet retreat from everyday life. We look forward to hosting you and hope you enjoy your relaxing stay. We have a 24-foot Class C RV, Ohana, surrounded by coconut palms and offering a 180-degree, million-dollar view! Enjoy the peace and quiet along with refreshing ocean breezes.
The RV sleeps up to 4 guests, with a queen-size cab-over bed and a full-size bed. It includes a kitchen with stove and refrigerator and a bathroom with toilet and shower. There is also an outdoor shower you can use.
There’s a large covered lanai for watching the sunsets each evening, as well as a fire pit for campfires.
Mountain goats regularly graze on the property, and during whale season you will not only see whales—you can also hear them!
We are located in South Kona, 35 miles south of Kailua-Kona, 56 miles from Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, and 95 miles from Hilo.
Captain Cook is 15 miles north and offers groceries, a hardware store, and several places to eat.
There are two neighborhood beaches nearby: Pebble Beach is 1½ miles north, and Hōkena Beach is 7 miles north. Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau (City of Refuge) is 8 miles north.

The yurt connects to a beautiful new custom wood lounge space with a luxurious spa bathroom that includes a walk-in shower and deep soaking tub. The lounge and bathing area are surrounded by picturesque large screen windows that look out on a back lanai (porch) tucked away in our organic coffee orchard. The lounge room has a queen size pūneʻe (day bed) and a magical hanging bamboo chair.
This peaceful restorative space lends itself well to contemplative practices, and yoga mats and ample open floor space are provided. The quiet neighborhood of small farms also lends itself to hill walking and exploring. While not "off grid," the space is intentionally peaceful and screen free. Wifi is not available in the space itself, but can be accessed nearby in our main parking area. Cell service is excellent for most providers, allowing for guests to use their own "hotspot" as needed for staying connected.
Nearby beaches offer stunning views and spectacular snorkeling. The home is well stocked for beach visits-- towels and snorkel gear are available for your use.
Your hosts produce vibrant organic vegetables and fruit for top island restaurants and local grocery stores. This home is nestled among our organic coffee and citrus orchards.

Weekend Trip to The Tranquil Homestead
10/10 would recommend! Hope you’re feeling “foul” …. the natives are hungry. Be prepared for the welcoming party. The peacocks and ducks are so cute and it felt like we created a unique bond with the farm. It was hurricane Lala and she was creating quite a “whirlwind”. In the eye of the storm the peacock kept watch. I would love to upload a video bc it was surreal. Christopher and Esther were the nicest people. Gracious…kind…helpful… welcoming… they made sure we felt safe and checked in with us the entire stay. I felt like I was visiting friends or family. Truly blessed to have had this opportunity! Amma and Jason were wonderful hosts! Their property has really been curated with love and intention. It was a comfortable stay and they made me feel very welcome. Their children are trained chefs and cooked delicious food on site, which all guests enjoyed together at the table. Amma and Jason even drove me to see the volcano erupting and shared with me how to make a traditional Hawaiian offering to the Goddess Pele. I will absolutely be staying with them again when I return to the Big Island. If you like nature and a lodging experience that is warmer than a regular hostel I would definitely reccomend Mu Garden.

We fully enjoyed the Opihi Coastal View Cottage and lush environs during our five-day, six-night stay. The yurt was light, airy, clean, well appointed and maintained. The bed/bedding were very comfortable. The shower and toilet were a short distance from the yurt and in good working order. Jasmine and associates were excellent hosts and very knowledgeable about the agricultural and natural history of the area. We highly recommend the edible farm tour!

The tea house was such a lovely place stay. Absolutely beautiful views from all directions, gorgeous bird, frog, and other animal sounds - truly a place to shut out the busy world. Steve is great host - gave wonderful suggestions via his guidebook for local restaurants and other necessities, the house has the perfect amenities. Composting toilet is just a short walk away and exceptionally well maintained.
Also - the outdoor shower is to die for!! I’m very afraid this may have set my bar for outdoor showers and that it might never again be reached!

Skye's Treehouse or Volcano Treehouse is the most incredible, fun, enjoyable, and adventurous place to stay in Hawaii!! We thoroughly loved our 2 nights there and so wish we could've splurged to stay another 2 more nights. Alas, our 2 nights went by so quickly but they are still the highlights of our stay in Hawaii and Oahu. The place is a bit hard to find, but once you get there, you certainly appreciate that it is in the middle of no where! We met up with Holly who is one of the most delightful people you will ever meet! She was so kind and showed us all around the Treehouse. We were literally squealing with delight -- it was perfect! So beautiful inside and we felt exactly like Swiss Family Robinson from the Disney parks! Holly recommended a delicious restaurant and we also visited Volcano National park but our favorite was just sitting and enjoying the sound of the rain, the warmth of the fireplace, and playing a card game at night. The main bedroom area is so neat with all the open windows, I loved taking a shower and seeing right out into the trees. My 17yo slept in the hidden hide-away bedroom and loved it. My 21yo slept in the living room because she is tall and the single bed under the main bed wasn't going to provide enough space for her. It did rain nearly the entire time we were there so be prepared for that! We actually didn't get to enjoy the outdoor patios but wished we could've just spent a few hours relaxing outside.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at the treehouse! In fact, we like it so much that we changed some plans so we could spend more time hanging out and enjoying the uniqueness of the space. We loved sitting on the lanai’s and the feelings of peace and serenity of just hanging out in nature! We fell asleep listening to the euphony of frogs. I wish I had planned for more than one night.
The check-in process was very easy - and the instructions and combination were great! I recommend meeting the property manager there instead of self check-in. I appreciated her helpful advice on local places.
I hope we have the opportunity to come back and stay again for a longer time. I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a unique place to stay and loves the outdoors!

Truly one of the most magical places I've ever stayed at - we didn't want to leave! We loved everything about our stay, from the fun way to enter the house, to the dreamy fairy-lit path through the forest, to the well-furnished treehouse itself. We kept admiring all of the handcrafted nature of the house during our stay and discovering fun little details. And the bonus was being 15 min away from the park, allowing us to catch an actual eruption! We hope we will get the chance to come back another time!

Weekend Trip to Kona comfy RV w/million dollar view
Yes, the driveway is an adventure, but totally worth it! The RV is adorable, well-cared for and as private as you could ask for. The ocean, the birds, the flowers, the noisy frogs and the curious geckos are charming. The panoramic sunset views are unbelievable. Chris and Mark are kind, friendly, helpful and interesting to talk with. I could have just hung out on that covered porch for weeks, contentedly. A fabulous experience, as long as you understand the limitations of any camper, and are confident with four-wheel driving.

3 nights at Magical yurt, stunning spa bathroom
Lovely yurt and spa bath and sitting room on a farm. Fell asleep listening to rain and frogs. Near everything we wanted to do. Would definitely recommend.

2 nights at Hamakua Guesthouse
We stayed in 3 places on the island and this was by far our favorite. There was plenty of space, it was clean and lovely, well stocked kitchen, and the setting was beautiful including the swimming hole with waterfall! (which sadly we didn't get to go in as we were out so much)...as others have said, I would have liked to have stayed there longer and just enjoyed the property. Everything about it was easy and convenient. They even had a TV and DVD collection- though we were mostly offline for our week in Hawaii, it was perfect to watch a silly. movie on one of the nights. Would definitely go back, thank you Hamakua Guest House (Rover View Family House)!

2 nights at Hamakua Guesthouse
This little gem was absolutely lovely. It had everything we needed for a couple nights on the big island. The fact that it had a clean, fully functional bathroom and running, hot water was a huge draw for us. Being able to fall asleep to the sound of the creek was incredibly peaceful. We were able to get the jungle camping feel, but get back on the plane clean and refreshed. Absolutely would recommend.

1 night at The Tranquil Homestead
We enjoyed our stay at the Tranquil Duck. It was nice and cool, which was great after a hot day. The shower was nice and we enjoyed coffee with the ducks and pea fowl. They were so cute! Very comfortable and a nice stay close to volcano national park and Hilo. We would love to come back!
