This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, bugs, geckos, free roaming chickens or other elements to be expected in nature, this might not be the place for you.
Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege.
While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. One of the most beautiful places in Hawai`i. We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road). Nearly are places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park). We are also close to civilization and Kualoa Ranch.
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

Also, we often have visits from wild pigs that come down from the mountain, so you may see them as well. Although we are certain you will love this place, please keep in mind, it takes a lot of hard work to maintain it. Thus, you will probably hear farm equipment and activities buzzing about (typically on the weekends). And, we want you to respect, love, and care for this place as much as we do by leaving it better than you found it.

We have a restroom facility that includes 4 private bathrooms. Each with their own shower, toilet and sink. There is warm/Hot water for the showers but it is not guaranteed as supply is limited and it’s an off-grid facility. The restroom facility is shared with other guests on Maleka Farm. We collect rain water for our shower, toilet, and sink, and use solar panels for electricity.
SUGGESTION: Check the weather report in advance to ensure that you are prepared for any weather conditions that could occur. Hawaii's rainy season is from October-March. Keep in mind that Hawaii is a tropical island so be prepared for mosquitoes and other insects. There is a higher chance of mud during the rainy season as well.
Hiking Trails:
Maleka Farm provides easy access to a variety of hiking trails in the town of Laie and surrounding areas. Some popular trails in the vicinity include: Laie Summit Trail, Ma'akua Ridge Trail, Laie Falls Trail, Malaekahana Falls Trail
Local Attractions:
In addition to the mesmerizing mountain views, Laie and its surrounding areas offer a variety of attractions such as the Polynesian Cultural Center, an immersive cultural experience showcasing the traditions and history of the Pacific Islands. Hukilau Cafe is 0.3 miles down the street (have you seen the movie 50 First Dates? One of the scenes is based on the cafe). For more food and shopping options, 2 miles down the road is Kahuku Food Trucks market. You can also visit nearby beaches for swimming, snorkeling, or simply basking in the sun.

Weekend Trip to Hau'ula Hideaway
This was one of the nicest places I've stayed in quite some time. There was lots of space in a very clean and well decorated kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. It was also great to have amenities like a stove and fridge that allow more food options most spots are equipped for. I would highly recommend a stay and will be returning in the future also. It was extremely peaceful.

I loved staying in the Oahu bell tent at Sun Farm. This was my second time staying there, and it was even better the second time. It’s peaceful and feels safe and comfortable. The farm cats and dog are sweet and friendly, and the people working there kind and helpful. I will definitely be back!

The farm is so beautiful with fruit trees and you can see the ocean in the distance. We loved staying in the cedar cabin with its really comfy bed and great cedar smell. The outdoor shower is the best! And getting to pick our own papayas and bananas was so fun and delicious. The staff are really friendly and accessible. Location was excellent for getting to the north shore and Haleiwa is a really sweet area.

Had an amazing stay, the views were incredible and had more amenities than expected right on site. Had some initial power issues with inverter glitch but was immediately fixed by Dave and called me to explain everything which didn’t affect power bank in tent. Being a tent outside expect some bugs, only the mosquitoes were a bit of an annoyance but this is a tropical island so it’s all expected. Bed was very comfortable but be aware that in pictures it shows a cot for third person but it is actually a futon chair that lays flat to be bed. Fan was a lifesaver for the warm humid late evenings. Enjoyed the outdoor shower. Overall no complaints and definitely saving it for our next visit. Emphasis on the amazing views and the feeling of being tucked away from city life.

Highlights: outdoor shower that felt like a hot jungle shower. Kira and Mini the friendliest farm dogs. Fresh fruit from the trees ( limes, papaya, bananas and guava were ripe when we stayed in May). Cabin was beautiful, if a bit on the small side. Great area, only about 10mins from Haleiwa. Ask Kristian to rent paddleboards to go up the Haleiwa River to see turtles!
10/10 would stay again.

This was a wonderful experience overall. It felt very secluded and private. Views around the entire property were beautiful. I thought the outdoor shower was very cool as well as the outdoor eating area. Dave was very communicative the whole time and I felt like the hosts really cared that I enjoyed my stay. I may be going back to Oahu for work soon and I would definitely stay here again.

Weekend Trip to Peaceful Tiny Home North Shore
The place is absolutely amazing for nature lovers - immersed in the middle of green Hawaiian country site, peaceful and quiet. We loved the outside shower and small but fully equipped kitchen. The terrace with hammock and the view were extra treats. Fully recommended.

The Cloud Haven cabin with separate kitchen and toilet sturtures on a hill on the highest point on the property was a lovely place to stay for a few days. If you like the North Shore of Oahu, and you like views and the trade winds blowing in through the windows of the 8-sided cabin, this is the place for you!

Weekend Trip to Totonami Farm
Paul was a great host! He ensured I had a great stay and made me a natural mosquito repellent and provided extra fans and kept the Jackery power stations charged. The site is absolutely beautiful and tranquil. The bed was very comfortable. The site is very convenient to Haleiwa and nearby beaches.

We had an excellent experience staying in the large tent at Sun Farm! The shower and restroom amenities were excellent and really made for a great glamping experience. We had all the amenities we needed but were able to be amongst nature.

We loved camping at Totonami Farm! When people ask about our trip we say it was the highlight. Every camp structure is well constructed, the propane hot shower and flush toilet were luxuries. The tent was well protected from rain. There weren’t mosquitoes out at all when we were there so can’t speak to that but it seems well sealed to bugs.
You can tell that they have really thought about the comfort of their guests. All of the little extra touches made it a true glamping experience. We would come back just for the shower hut, it was seriously so nice after a long day of hiking and the beach.
We drove all around Oahu and decided that we picked the best place to camp. Between kaena point, Waialua, and Haleiwa we had plenty to do. We were able to go to most local businesses in Waialua and would recommend Waialua fresh and Waialua general store.
This was our first Hipcamp experience in Hawaii and we were not disappointed.
