Malama Aina Retreat - Oahu

It was such a nice experience staying at the yurt! We were a bit afraid of the cold showers and air mattresses beforehand but this was not a problem at all. The surroundings are so beautiful and it is a very special place to stay. I would definitely recommend staying here :)

Malama Aina was outstanding and we will absolutely be coming back! The hosts were responsive, friendly, educational, lovely people. Communication about how to get there and what to expect was well thought out and covered any questions I had. The Facilities were clean and well kept. We found Malama Aina to be family friendly and peaceful with majestic views of the mountains and easy access to the ocean. A few minutes up the road are excellent food choices, most of which close early so plan accordingly! The air mattresses provided were comfortable, held air well and the bedding was perfect for the climate. The towels provided were also very soft! I would suggest arriving in the daytime to find your camp spot a little easier, but the hosts do provide detailed directions that we were able to follow even in the dark. Malama Aina might just be one of the best hidden gems in Oahu.

We had a very positive experience overall. Initially, our booking was double booked. But our host went so far above and beyond to help us find a new accommodation less than a few minutes. Our new accommodation was perfect for our family of 7. He did a great job to both communicate well and to quickly resolve the issues. We had a great stay in Oahu.

It was fun to camp in a Yurt on Hawaii. It was very affordable and yet a unique and fun experience for me and my family. The outside showers and restrooms were a little awkward and there was a longer walk from where the parking is to where the Yurts are that was a little awkward, especially when carrying our luggage, but it was nice and quiet and a very unique experience.

Our yurt experience was amazing!! Despite a few hiccups with the setup, Nohomai was quick to respond and get a helper out to properly equip our yurt for 4 of us to sleep in. The land is so peaceful, you will sleep very soundly. We were provided with air mattresses and they were GREAT, super comfortable. The yurt is gigantic. Outdoor showers are so refreshing, they weren’t extremely cold but weren’t warm either, it was just right. We were provided a towel for the shower. The outdoor bathrooms were very clean and privacy is not an issue. We brought a cooler with food, there is electricity in the yurt, but no proper space to cook which was expected. I think you can pay a bit extra to use a kitchen? Expect a nice nature walk from your car to your stay :) I would pack a headlamp, fan, extension cord, and your own pillow - I always do though. It does get hot in the yurt, our “Big Island” Blissful yurt is tucked away in the trees but some of the others get a lot of sun. The education program they provide for their guests is truly the best part! It’s a great addition to learn about the land, agricultural practices, and to witness some rich Hawaiian culture. Nara was so kind to talk to and enhanced our morning with great conversation as we watched the pups run around and play. Thank you for opening your land and providing such a peaceful place to get away from the hustle. This place is very special and I will be staying here again!

Leave the World Behind Yurt

Ita was pretty fun for our family. Took a break from screen time and hung out with each other. The yurt was pretty spacious and the air mattresses were actually comfortable. The little one loved our gecko roommates. Very relaxing spot, definitely recommend.

Calming Cabin

My family really enjoyed Nohomai’s retreat, the land is beautiful. Our yurt was located near a small river which adds a peaceful atmosphere for sleeping. We also had the kahoo lawe cabin for my parents which was amazing. The porch faces the mountain valley and offers shade in the morning being a perfect place to enjoy a peaceful breakfast before starting your day! I would recommend Malama Aina to anyone who enjoys a true authentic camping experience while on O’ahu! Everyone was very helpful and friendly and instructions were very thorough. This is the perfect oasis to get away from the hustle and bustle of things and we will definitely be back!

We absolutely loved staying in this beautiful place. My family (kids aged 9, 13, and 14) all loved it. The kaluanui valley is a special and magical spot. We really enjoyed the orientation and participating in the Malama Aina project with Kai’imi. We helped prepare the land for planting and learned so much about the history and culture of the area. We did the fireknife activity with Kai’imi and wow- what a special experience. The yurt was amazing- so much more spacious that we expected- my family of five was comfy, and had electricity! And towels! We were honored to be a part of this.

Blissful Island Yurt

This is a lovely spot. We spent 10 nights in the Big Island/Blissful Island Yurt. The land is beautiful and everything was as the pictures suggested. The yurt was a tad more “one with nature” then I anticipated. If you have food with you I recommend bringing something to help keep any critters out because the car was a several minute walk away and they were able to make there way into the yurt. The air mattresses were comfortable and held air nicely the whole 10 nights. They provided air mattress, sheets, pillows, a suitable comforter and towels for the number of guests. The yurts are all close to each other which makes for feeling “on display” at night when the lights are on inside and it is dark outside. You could always drop the exterior window covers but we just chose to be strategic with where we changed. There is a sink right outside the blissful island yurt as as well as a picnic table. I found it helpful to wear ear plugs when sleeping due to the items from the trees falling on the roof as well as the noise of the birds and then yurt neighbors music one night. It rained several nights and we were all thankful to have the extra space in a yurt compared to a tent and we stayed nice and dry. If you’re up for an adventure this is your spot!

Gorgeous setting and comfortable air mattresses. We really appreciated the mālama 'āina session. In the yurt itself, FYI: beds with sheets, blanket, and a pillow; bath towels; a storage ottoman with additional pillows; and a small "tv tray" table. Outside the yurt: a table with 4 chairs. Bring a camping burner, fuel, lighter, and drinking water. I did not see an outdoor kitchen, but I could have missed it.

I love this place!!!

I had the most wonderful experience staying at here this past weekend. Kaluanui is a serene and sacred space and it is clear that everything is well cared for with good intentions. Great communication with hosts, friendly staff, and the yurt was absolutely beautiful! I have no complaints and I would have loved to stay longer. Mahalo nui loa!

Big Island Yurt

Great area for secluded and private camping. No open fires allowed for cooking. The gate code was changed halfway through our stay and we were not notified, which caused some inconvenience and waste of time. The listing is misleading because it’s marked as hot water available, but there is no hot water. The cold water outside of the toilet area did not work part of our stay but there were other sink stations available further away. The Yurt was very sturdy and held up through several rain storms. The lands are exquisitely beautiful. The welcoming intro is only held on M, T, & Th. As we arrived on Th after 5pm, we did not get to participate and did not know much about where we were allowed to wander around the lands. A slide show was sent however it definitely could have been more informative. Overall it was a good stay and a safe place to sleep.

Beautiful stay on sacred land

My wife and I had a phenomenal time on this gorgeous and sacred land. The scenery was stunning and the amenities were quite nice. We really enjoyed participating in the Aina program and hearing about the rich Hawaiian heritage from Kaimi.

I can’t blame the staff for the weather, but it ended up raining at night when we got in and they placed a big bowl to catch rain but we have small children and didn’t want to risk them falling. They pretended they had no idea about the leak. Then we had to carry the blow up mattress in the rain to another yurt. Wasn’t as clean as could b, and me and my boys got bit up by Fleas! Not mosquitos. We stayed one night and left in the morning before our check out date. They offered a refund of 100.00 that we have yet to see that.

Majestic Paradise Cabin

Host was very attentive and responded very fast, the cabin didn’t have as much privacy as ideal as many windows didn’t have curtains, etc. The location was absolutely beautiful and we had a great trip. Showers were clean but cold, overall would recommend the trip. we

I can’t speak highly enough about this experience. Everything here is conducted with care and love for the beautiful surrounding land. The yurt was comfortable and well maintained, and the outdoor shower/bathroom are great for a camping experience! Ka’imi is a great communicator and helped check-in and check-out go smoothly. This is an unforgettable way to respectfully engage with Hawaiian culture and land. I also attended the luau run by Ka’imi and Zion, and it was a spectacular addition to the yurt booking.

Amazing Nature Experience!!!!!

Great location, yet quiet and private! We enjoyed our stay this weekend in the cabin. It was a great change of pace from being in town. It was simple with beds and a cooking area. However, our family enjoyed waking up to nature and the opportunity to malama ka aina together.
