In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. Outdoor deck features comfortable Adirondack chairs, a Weber charcoal grill, and a fire pit for campfires. I'll provide you with wood (on a donation basis . . . pay what you like) campfires. Matches and paper provided, too, to help get the fire started. The play area offers opportunities limited only by your imagination. Sunbathing? Stargazing? Badminton and Bocce balls provided if you want to play! Richie was a great host and the shack was cute. The land is just uphill of the host's main house. You don't have to worry about the shared property because he respects your privacy. He said hello to us when we arrived and then we saw him again just before we checked out. It rained each night we stayed here and the shack kept us warm and dry.

I have to say, this was hands-down the best organized, cleanest, easiest, most amenity-laden cabin I’ve ever rented. So many details, from the embroidered robes to the bound book of instructions and recommendations. From the kitchen appointments to the coffee. There are really too many amazing little things to list here, but you could really tell the owners absolutely care about the experience their property provides. And we went panning for gold in the creek below the back deck and even found a little! It was incredibly comfortable and lots of fun. Just make sure you’re ok with stairs and aren’t too large to fit the spiral to the loft. I honestly cannot think of a single improvement to make. Didn’t even matter that it rained so much, because there was plenty left to do inside.

We loved our stay at the Magical Resorts Groundskeeper Cabin! Mary truly thought of every detail when designing and decorating each space. The beautiful stained glass, cozy bedding, fire torches, and even the dishes made us feel like we were actually in Hagrid’s cabin! Even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, the cabin is simply beautiful and so thoughtfully done. We have two younger children who absolutely loved it—they spent hours on the swings and the play area by the water and enjoyed feeding and petting the animals. One evening we visited downtown Haynesville and had a great meal at a local restaurant. We probably could have spent more time exploring the town, but we just loved relaxing in nature. Mary was so kind and quick to respond to all of my messages. We will definitely be back!

Such a great experience! The cottages were super cute, the property was peaceful, and we loved the animals and the little fairy village—it added so much charm. The hammock area was a really fun and relaxing touch. The host was kind, thoughtful, and very understanding when we had to leave earlier than planned. Everything was clean and cozy, and we truly enjoyed our time there. If I could make a small suggestion, it would be to add a few towel hooks for after showers and maybe clean the AC units or consider fans for better airflow. Other than that, everything was perfect—we’d happily stay again!

I really enjoyed my stay here! The campground is quiet, peaceful, and has a unique charm that makes it feel special. The rental was well stocked. Also, the owner was friendly and welcoming, which added to the great experience. The only thing I’d mention is that the air conditioning unit could use some cleaning or maybe an upgrade, and having a ceiling fan or two would really help with air circulation. Other than that, everything was great — I’d definitely stay here again!

Weekend Trip to West Preserve

Very nice and quiet spot in the middle of nature. Has a beautiful creek that runs through the middle of everything and sounds so serene. The cabin we stayed at was the bloom and it was a very cozy and quaint, full furnishing including microwave, fridge, A/C / heat, and even running water. The bathhouses were super cool and very rustic with hot water. Would definitely recommend as a stay or stopping through
