Michael and Kimberly Duke bought a small cabin on the Canoochee River to enjoy as a family. They decided to list it on a vacation rental site. As this property was in full demand, another property became available to buy. As interest began to increase, the family decided open up the options for their visitors. At this current date, they have four cabins and a yurt, as well as, tent sites. We are excited about the yurt that was completed in August 2019. The Neature Preserve (formerly known as "Tabby's Trees") consists of 74 acres made up mostly of pine forest situated in the coastal plain. A creek runs along the western boundary of the property with an ephemeral (seasonal) wetland to the southwest. The overstory of the forest is dominated by loblolly and slash pine with a few longleaf pine sprinkled in, as well as turkey oak, live oak, laurel oak, and sweetgum. We have ~1.5 miles of trails that wind through a variety of ecosystems (trails can hiked or biked). The property has three primitive camping sites. Two of the sites are for tent camping only (where you would park your car along the hiking trail and then follow a separate path to get to the campsite), with one site that has enough space to park multiple cars or small camper right at the campsite. The Neature Preserve is all about restoring native habitat! Prescribed fire is used at The Preserve to safely and efficiently restore and maintain productive ecosystems and to support our native plant and animal species. Our beautiful unique property has been in the family for 3 generations. Over the years, our family, plus artists, musicians, & writers have come here to refresh and get inspiration from nature. But with Hipcamp, we've opened up for others to enjoy. We limit the number of guests staying here to no more than 10, but the daily average is only 4. We have walking trails, a pond where you can kayak, relax on the dock, or feed the huge fish (sorry no fishing allowed.) Also, on our property, there are swings, a tree house deck, obstacle course, fire pit area, wooden bridge, picnic table, and abundant bird life. There's also plenty of wide-open space where you can play frisbee, run, do yoga, and stargaze at night. There's plenty to do in this area, using the farm as your base. Claxton, our hometown, is a great friendly, small-town with grocery and hardware stores and restaurants. Many guests like to side-trip over to the towns of Statesboro, Metter, Vidalia, and Savannah, plus the Golden Isles.

I think the yurt was absolutely great for a glamping trip. It had all the amenities you could want and even extra. I will say that it was a little difficult to get to but Kim's instructions work extremely helpful. I do suggest that you use a truck or a Jeep not that a car can't get down there but it's just easier. I think it would be really even much better once some of the debris from all the flooding and hurricanes is taking care of so that you can enjoy kayaking down the river unblocked but there is much woods to explore and it's perfect getaway to be with nature.

My husband and I needed a stopover somewhere. We were slightly concerned considering it is someone’s property, and we are pretty private people. This place was so peaceful, perfectly spaced out, Mike the host was very nice and helpful and made sure we fed his very large catfish in their pond. We will definitely remember them and will plane at least a two night stopover.

Weekend Trip to The Neature Preserve

A pleasant experience of seclusion, some traffic noise in the background though not excessive. Not to far from the interstate 95 grind and extremely close to the classic US 1 east coaster route. Warmer temperatures than the states above, an early start to springtime. I wasn't bothered by a dog barking like someone else mentioned though I did hear one in the distance when visiting one of the other campsites. All in all the hipcamp is well worth the cost with a nice host & cozy feeling.

Weekend Trip to 3-Way River

Perfect riverside oasis!! Easy access boat ramp for kayaks or canoes. Tons of space and trails to roam in the adjacent wildlife management area. Definitely plan to return!!! Only a few people wandered down the trail on side by sides, but waved and left once they realized we were camping.

The Pine Cove Campsite fire ring. This campsite is surrounded by a diversity of native plant species, predominantly forbs (such as Bracken Fern & Cat Bells) and grasses (such as Wiregrass and Georgia Beargrass) with a Loblolly and Slash Pine canopy.

Weekend Trip to The Neature Preserve

Responsive host particularly via text, delightful get away. Pine cove is situated at the end of the South loop as seen on the map to access it you have to drive as far as you can until you park and then you have to hike the rest of the way in it's not really that long of a walk but know that the initial stretch is a little bit low-lying and can be a bit soggy it's not terribly troublesome if you're used to being outside, though. If you are worried about hearing any road noise I would think that the other campsite or the car campsite might have a little less noise pollution but even still it was relatively quiet a side of the occasional dog noise. A property itself is lovely and was a delight to stroll about and enjoy. There was plenty of downed trees to use for wood on site to keep warm. I will likely return.

Great host. Friendly. She gave us her best but the hurricane downed lots of trees on the trail. We made the trek around the property and even stopped for lunch on a log. Very primitive camping if you’re looking to stay the night. But great hiking trail for beginners to the woods. Thanks for allowing us to explore. 🫶🏾
