The original house that I grew up in is still located on the property but is currently uninhabitable (for now). My fondest memories of the property are of playing and catching crawdads in the creek that located on the property when I was a kid and riding horses and flying kites in the fields. I am working hard to restore this property to the way I remember it and trying to make it enjoyable for those that come to visit. A majority of the property is still being used as a hay field during the summer months and two to three times a year the hay is usually harvested.

The mountain has several natural terraces and flat areas suitable for campers to choose from including a nice spot overlooking a rock garden. As you ascend Sand Mountain, the vegetation thins revealing spectacular views of Lookout Mountain especially in the fall & winter months after the leaves have fallen. At the very top of the property are 30+ ft high cliffs with a cave. It has a colorful collection of lichen growing in it and we have named it our 'Mandala cave'. The cave is great for meditation. Rejuvenating guided hikes to the cliffs & caves are available upon request. This is raw land & raw forest. If you enjoy bush craft, there is plenty of material for you to build a lean-to, tipi, or structure of choice. Trees range from poplar to multiple species of oak. Natural wildlife include deer, wild turkeys, scorpions, and ticks. You're welcome to bring fluffy as we've never seen any predators, but there is a slight chance there could be some around. A lost animal on the mountain could be near impossible to find. We have 2 male cats. Unfortunately, the Earth does what she wants and weather forecasts can't be relied upon. We've had sunny days that have been forecasted to rain and un-predicted downpours. It can be raining at the top or the bottom of the mountain but not at the campsites in the middle.

This creek property was probably used by the Creek and then the Cherokee as a campsite because of the abundant water and wild life. Later is was farm land and in the 1920's had approximately fifty mules working the land. The Old barn and blacksmith shop are still here. In 1977 the government planned to put a four lane toll road through here but was stopped by the oil embargo which caused the right of way to be auctioned. We were able to buy 200 acres for a small amount of money and have been raising cattle and camping on it every since that time. As a Scout Master I have been using this site for camping for the past 15 years. Time to let others enjoy. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent or hammock in a grove of hardwood trees in a nice meadow on the banks of Lake Creek with old timey swimming hole. It is about 8 feet deep in center going to about 4' at sides and 20 feet long. Big stone grill is provided as well as large fire pit. Kindling and firewood is provided. ten minute walk to the main house for potable water and other needs.  37 acre farm with hills and a wide variety of wildlife and plants to inspect. Camp is in rural area couple hundred yards off county road but secluded. Plenty of deer, turkey, geese, wild ducks, beaver and other wild life in the area. A secondary campsite is provided down the creek with area for tent near creek. Fire pit and firewood is provided.

This was our third time camping here, and it was another amazing experience! It's peaceful but close enough to restaurants and stores. The site is fairly level, the internet is fast, and everything works as expected. We plan to be back! Our dogs love it too!

1 night at Another Secluded Mountain Getaway

Great little spot for dispersed tent camping. Jerry the host was quick to respond and provided clear and accurate directions. Upon arrival I felt welcomed by his warmth and kindness. He happily showed me around the property, made sure I had everything I could need, and even brought his skid steer over to move a rock that was in my way! Basics: It’s a simple site with a fire pit, a picnic table and a flat spot for a tent. Pros: Host is responsive and welcoming Site felt mostly private Property and area felt very safe Abundant firewood, lots of kindling to gather Nice sized fire pit with flat stones to set things on Site tucked behind hosts wood shop and invisible from the street Quiet street/ quiet mountain neighborhood Level surface big enough for a 7x9 tent Super close to Cloudland Canyon State Park Potential cons (not enough to stop me from returning) There is a tenant/ house sort of nearby, but I didn’t feel they were close enough to infringe on my privacy. There was a street lamp that shone in my direction, but once I put a tarp up I forgot it was there. You can hear cars in the distance at times, but I’ve found this to be true for 80% of sites I visit. Overall I enjoyed my time on this property and will definitely return again.

For the group of guys that I camp with, this was our favorite site we’ve been to. Jerry is a phenomenal host. Great to talk to. And so accommodating. He gave my son a bag of homemade popcorn when we arrived. Took us for a ride around the property to show us everything there is. Loved hearing his stories. The site is spacious enough that it feels private. We are already planning our next trip out there!

Weekend Trip to Shackalakin What's Crakin RV Park

This was my 2nd time staying at Shackalakin Whats Crackin. It's one of my favorite Hipcamp spots in TN. Can't say enough positive things about this place. Where else do you have 20+ acres all to yourself? It's such a wonderful space to camp with my dog. And everything is very accommodating. Full hookups and very fast WiFi. Plus it's in a great location for outdoor activities.

3 nights at Shackalakin What's Crakin RV Park

This was the best spot I have camped at in years. Wide open fields full of deer and turkeys while all alone on far enough away from other people yet close enough to go into a small town for any missing or needed supplies. The area was well kept, had a string light setup, a nice fire pit, and lots of scenery. 10/10 visit, would and will definitely return in the future. Also of note was the host answers calls even as late as 9-10pm and is pleasantly cordial.

Weekend Trip to Shackalakin What's Crakin RV Park

My boyfriend and I loved camping at this site. I was initially concerned about the site being right next to a road, but it didn't end up bothering us at all and the environment was still very peaceful. It was lots of fun to walk around the land too. The string lights and large bonfire space made the ambiance perfect for a relaxing getaway from busy college life. The land on the campsite was nice and flat which made it very easy to set up the tent and made it more comfortable to sleep in. Be prepared for a relaxing wake-up from all the local birds and a nearby rooster. Easy gravel parking spot only a few yards away from the gate entrance near the road. The owners came to check in on us one morning and gave us a very cute sticker to remember the place by! Thank you :)

This is a very nice spot, but there are a few things I wish we had known in advance. It doesn’t have the privacy we hoped for, as the two campsites are less than 100 feet apart with very few trees in between. Next time, we’ll rent both campsites so we have it all to ourselves. There’s a rooster nearby that starts getting very active around 4:30 AM. Also, the creek has no current so it gets very buggy - bring plenty of bug spray! Some firewood was supplied but wasn’t chopped, and it wasn’t kept under cover… fortunately it hadn’t rained in awhile so it wasn’t too wet to burn, but I wish we had brought an axe.

Site was as described. A beautiful rolling hillside of freshly mown (when we were there)hay. Convenient to Cleveland. I would definitely stay again. Mark was always prompt, kind and informative in his communication. Just 20 minutes to the edge of the Cherokee National Forest, and the gateway to Ocoee River adventures and lake fishing. Outdoor joy for everyone!

If my dog could use Hipcamp, he would book this site every week. Great shady space for camping and relaxing. The outhouse looks good- clean and well-kept. We saw deer when driving around, and someone's Pyrenees came by to check us out but didn't engage with my dog.

This place was awesome for my dogs and me! They had tons of room to run around. And the area under the power lines was great for playing fetch. There are some cool trails for walks, too. There is a gazebo that's super cozy, and the led strip lights are nice for cooking dinner. It's a spot where you just sit in the rocking chair and may not say much at all and enjoy the sounds of night. The bathroom is close by, which is a plus. Jerry was an amazing host! He gave us a map and showed us around. He was super helpful and always a smile. I will visit again and have added to favorites.
