Jacksonville might be Florida’s most populous city, but it’s also its greenest—this coastal city boasts the largest urban park system in the US. Urban explorers can take their pick of seven state parks, three national parks and preserves, and some 400 parks and gardens, all within a half-hour drive of downtown. Once you’ve browsed Jax’s art museums and visited the Fort Caroline National Memorial, check into an RV park along the St. Johns River, pitch your tent on the beach at Little Talbot Island State Park, or kayak around the wetlands in the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve.

Welcome to our little homestead. Nestled amidst the serene countryside, this quaint campground offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Surrounded by lush farms and sprawling horse pastures, the air is filled with the sweet scent of wildflowers and the gentle rustle of leaves. With only a handful of RV spots and a few cozy tents scattered among the trees, guests can truly reconnect with nature while roasting marshmallows over crackling campfires under a blanket of stars. Here, the pace slows down, allowing visitors to unwind and immerse themselves in the simple pleasures of rural life. We just finished (well 2 years ago) traveling the country in an RV with five of our 7 kids (oldest two were in college) and we had a terrible time finding places to stay in Saint Augustine when we came home to visit. I hope that we can offer some nice people a safe and beautiful place to park their rig. Things to do: The property is near the historic St. Augustine, a fun walkable/bikeable city, lots of state parks and of course an awesome beach! Other things to note: 6 Miles away is 4 Lakes Campground with dumping facilities

Olive Land Farms

16. Olive Land Farms

46mi from Jacksonville · 1 site · Tent, RV
Thank You for visiting our site. We are Olga and Henry Santos and we would like to invite you to come and stay at our Olive Land Farms. Olive Land Farms is a 12.4 acres farm growing over 2500 Olive trees of 8 different varieties of olives, from 3 of the most renowned olive producing countries in the world. They have been growing here in Hastings, Florida for over a year as they all migrated here from California. The goal of our research project is to establish whether olives could be a profitable crop for the State of Florida. Our research is headed by Reinaldo Valdes, PHD and with the collaboration of Olive growers from Andalucia, Spain. We have 2 varieties from Greece: Koroneiki and Kalamata, 2 varieties from Italy: Taggianca and Ascolana, and 4 varieties from Spain: Picuale, Manzanilla, Arbozana and Arbequina. We are hoping to have our first harvest in 3 to 5 years, until then, we are importing olive oil, representing some of the best olive oils in the world, and educating the consumers about the great qualities and properties of cooking and enjoying the best, heathiest oil in the world, as well as olives. Olive Land Farms also sell trees for homes and garden. In addition to our Olive grove we are a carbon farm, as our trees grow, they will be absorbing carbon dioxide form the environment. A fully grown olive tree can absorb 4.5 tons of carbon dioxide per year, according to the International Olive Council ( you do the math, especially when we are very close to one of the few coal burning power plants still in operation in our country) We are also a bird sanctuary, you will see a vast variety of birds, it’s an amazing show, we have different bird at all seasons, ducks migrating south for the winter as well as when they are heading back north, quite a sight to see, hawks, cardinals and cranes and the most amazing sunrises and sunsets, come visit with us. Olive Land Farms is a family learning and growing experience for all our guests, no politics, no soliciting, no negative energy, come and enjoy a peaceful day among the olive trees.

Where to go

Along St. Johns River

The mighty St. John’s River meets the Atlantic just east of Jacksonville and flows south of the city, affording plenty of options for riverside camping, fishing, hiking, and paddling. Closer to the city, birders won’t want to miss the Huguenot Memorial Park, a prime spot on the Great Florida Birding Trail, while history buffs can explore Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park and the Kingsley Plantation.

Northeast Atlantic Coast

Miles of white-sand beaches lie within a short drive of Jacksonville, where you can swim, surf, and enjoy water sports. At the mouth of the St Johns River, Hanna Park has a surf beach, fishing lake, and miles of hiking and biking trails, plus camping and cabin rentals. Further north, you can horseback ride on the beach and camp right on the sand at Amelia Island State Park.

Osceola National Forest

For a change of scenery, head inland to explore the wild woodlands of Osceola National Forest. The forest not only has RV and tent campgrounds with easy access to hiking, OHV, and horseback riding trails, but self-sufficient campers can also venture into the backcountry for dispersed camping.

When to go

Summertime is fun in Jacksonville, when visitors flock to the lakes, rivers, and beaches, and highs climb over 90°F. Jax’s far-north location means that it rarely gets hit by hurricane season (expect some summer thunderstorms nonetheless), and it’s still hot enough to hit the beach through spring and early fall. In winter, the mild weather and diminishing crowds can be a bonus for campers, but don’t expect the balmy temperatures of the south.
