Goat House Farm is a 501(c)3 owned micro-farm in a rural area of Tallahassee on the beautiful Lake Talquin. The farm has its humble beginnings in the summer of 2015 with four acres, four goats, and four chickens. I am offering short term rentals of my houseboat this season. It is located on the Apalachicola River about 1 mile upstream of NEAL LANDING near Blountstown and only accessible by motor boat or paddle vessel. The houseboat is in a fixed location and does not move. It is furnished with 2 beds, a futon, and a loft for extra sleeping space and there is a generator for power. THIS IS A PRIMITIVE CAMP, NOT A LUXURY RESORT STAY. You have to bring gasoline for the generator if you want power. The beds have mattress covers and sheets but you should bring your own sleeping bag and pillow cover. You relieve yourself at the boat ramp porta-potty ~1 mile away or in a (compostable) bag inside a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet seat lid out back and put it in my compost bin or haul it out with your trash. You have to bring in bottled drinking water or a Sawyer filter for the river water. There is a propane stove/oven, a charcoal grill and also a fire pit out front if you bring wood or collect it. There is an (outside) propane instant hot water heater with a shower head and a privacy screen if you need to get clean and don't want to hop in the drink. Service is spotty with AT&T but I get a few bars here and there. My goal here is to offer a unique experience and a code to the door for you to use it for the agreed time frame, not provide everything for you. I would be charging more for each stay if that were the case because it would be a real challenge for me to get to it and keep it stocked. If you come prepared for an enjoyable camping trip you will have a great time, if you come with nothing you will probably not. This would be my first time renting it out and so I do not have all of the logistics sorted, but I'd be willing to talk to someone and see if we can work something out if more reasonable amenities/comforts are required. This is an awesome camp for duck hunting or fishing weekend with enough room for a few buddies to drink some beer in the evening and relax, and this is NOT some random cash grab rental property. This is my personal camp retreat that I only want to share with people who are going to be respectful of it and the river. More photos coming soon.

Weekend Trip to Goat House Farm

I loved tent camping here! I have been here once before and wanted to come visit again—especially since it is in such a great area. The ammenities (bathroom, potable water, and commons room) make it all a little more comfortable without necessarily taking away from the beauty of being in nature. The farm animals are almost always very gentle and sweet, and the farm dog Toby was super loving and protective. The Goat House Farm were very sweet to all of us and answered any questions we had.

We love this property and the lake is great. Nearby are good stores and bait shops and the neighbors are quiet and respectful. We just spent a week here and how relaxing. Our dogs love it too. The lot is shaded most of the time and the deck is awesome.

We had a great time at the Goat house Farm. I have a Tacoma with a Roof top tent and it was the perfect spot for that. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. All the animals were sweet and well behaved. We will definitely be back with some friends next time!

Weekend Trip to Dead Lakes RV Park and Campground

I've stayed here twice now and I will say under the new management it is a complete 180 from last time. The park is actually kept up with. They were having a farmers market when we showed up. It is super quiet and priced fair. Only issue is they double booked my spot but they had it taken care of within minutes.

All the chickens are named! I didn't catch this ones but it looks like a Rufus...

I loved the property. The lot is mostly shaded and the dock/deck is wonderful. It was quiet and semi private. Remember to bring a four wheel drive and at least 30' of water hose with a filter (city water) if you plan to drink. Jennifer was awesome and checked in on me at least twice. I will definitely be booking again.

The Goat House Farm provided the perfect yet affordable getaway for my partner and I. The farm consisted of friendly goats, adorable chickens, and a dog named Tobi that made us feel right at home. The location of the farm was great, as we were able to go to various springs and state parks during our 2-night stay. The cabin included all the necessities and was comfortable. The host, Melissa, was very sweet and welcoming. It was a short hike to the lake that provided even more beautiful scenery. We quickly made friends with the orange cat that hung out outside the cabin, played fetch with Tobi, kicked our legs up outside, and made the most of our ideal summer evenings on the farm.

For a truly unforgettable experience, move the review over to the Goat House Farm! It’s rustic, it’s quirky, and if you’ve ever dreamed of hanging out with goats all day—this is the place. Seriously, if you love goats, this might just be the greatest thing ever. A quick tip: bring hiking boots, Crocs, or any shoes that can be easily washed. You’ll be around a lot of goats, and let’s just say… you don’t want to be wearing your nicest sneakers. If you’re planning to stay the night, we stayed in an RV and were able to plug in—super easy and surprisingly comfy. All in all, it’s fun, it’s rustic, it’s a goat-lover’s paradise!

This was a nice solo travel experience for me. The Rustic Cottage is very cozy, clean and stocked with almost everything you'd need (i.e. cookware, spices, body wash). Goat yoga was fun and the property is serene. Horseflies were in abundance during the day but that didn't dull the experience.

It’s truly a rural experience. The host was very responsive to all questions, before and during my visit. She even offered to let me come out when the goat kids were being bottle fed. The Coop was clean, decorated just like a chicken coop, and had cold A/C. I added in the morning biscuits option which was a tasty treat as I got on the road.

We loved tent camping with the goats! We camped in the goat enclosure, and had a lot of fun keeping our stuff goat-proofed. We highly recommend ear plugs, as the roosters seem to think Dawn was every few minutes. But it was worth it! We really appreciated the community fridge that we could store some stuff in, and the community supplies (pots, pans, etc) in case you forgot something. The hostess was awesome. I even got to help with a baby goat delivery! Tell Fireball “hi” from me!
