Stay by a lovely pond on 33 acre fruit and ornamental tree nursery property with great vibes.
Located near I-75 just 20 miles South of Tampa, 35 miles east of Saint Petersburg, 35 miles North of Sarasota, 2 hours West of Orlando.
This property is home to a farm/nursery operation and has a large pond on the west side. The pond is Spring-fed at the headwaters of Marsh Branch Creek which begins at our property and flows West about five miles in to Tampa Bay.
Approximately 33 private acres allows for plenty of space between our campsites.
Property is home to a farm with hundreds of fruit trees- Lychee, Mango, Starfruit, Papaya, Guava). Red Mombin, and thousands of banana plants.
Fishing can be great, wildlife and bird watching too.
Fenced and gated for safety, this old historic nursery property has good vibes and plenty to offer. Until you see it - you really may not understand.
Parts of property are wide open, other areas are rugged and difficult to walk through including some wetland areas.
The nursery has plenty of trees, and some fields -the large pond is surrounded by cattails and marsh/wetlands and has fish (Bass, Tilapia, Sunfish, Catfish).
Several species of wildlife have been seen on the property.
We think the property is lovely, and definitely want you to enjoy your camping experience!

Our camping area is surrounded by trees, so you won’t even realize that you are close to everything. You are only 9 minutes (4.9 mi.) away from the Sun-N-Fun Fly In, 35 minutes (19 miles) away from Jeeping with Judd, much less than that for restaurants, 6 minutes (2.3 mi.) from Walmart, and Home Depot is less than a mile away too! Many denominations of churches are also within 10 minutes of camping. Walt Disney World, Busch gardens and Sea World are all approximately 45 minutes away. There are many parks, hiking trails, and bike trails within a few-minute drive.
We have an outhouse (with a modern toilet), an outdoor heated shower, a cute “Clubhouse” (a converted 1950s camper) for small social gatherings, and 2 community fire pits. Electricity is available at the Clubhouse for small appliances and charging electronics. Several shared water faucets run off our well.
We can handle group camping as long as you realize that the single stall outhouse and shower house are "First come first served".
We hope that this is a quiet, relaxing place. Our quiet times are: weekdays at 9 pm and weekends at 12 am. Since this is a smaller place, we only have 1 public outhouse and 1 shower. They both are first come-first served. The “clubhouse” is available by reservation only.
Since there are exotic animals on site (all are caged and not visible), no pets are allowed. Courteousness will make this a very enjoyable stay.
We also have a small dump station for those who are staying (for an additional cash fee)
We have lived on this property securely since the early 70’s without issues but we hold NO LIABILITY for people or acts of God.

Wonderful, peaceful and tranquil few days hanging with the cows in the field afar! My 2 Boston Terriers and I enjoyed ourselves very much. Unfortunately it was unusually hot for March but we stayed cool under our camper's awning and inside our Runaway Rouser in the AC....a must anytime in Florida. There wasn't shade anywhere over the camping area so it would be very hot in the hotter months. A shaded area would be a great addition! Or sails over the existing area. Still, a very quiet, peaceful place.

Loved the secluded sites, they are even secluded from each other. I camped alone but each site could easily hold six or more tents. I would love to come back when the river is higher and paddle from camp.

Stayed here for 2 nights. There were other guests but you would not have known it. Although the landscape took a hit due to Florida having one of its coldest winters it was still lovely to see how nature grows with what’s thrown at it. My 2 dogs loved running around and smelling everything. I would come again!

- environment was mostly quiet. You are next to a road but that doesn’t bother me.

We camped at Mike’s over a long weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. The pond had really clear water and both of my sons caught a fish! As others have said you do hear some highway noise but it didn’t bother us at all. We enjoyed the Peacefulness of the property. There was only a few campers out there so my boys could throw a football around without worrying about traffic. We had purchased wood for a fire, but didn’t realize there was a burn ban. Mike offered to refund us the money for it and that was very nice! We also payed to rent the poop caddy and Mike would come and haul it away whenever needed! We really appreciated that and it made dumping our tanks so easy. If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat the property is located close to lots of fast food options and a few gas stations just minutes away. Mike was even nice enough to let us put our paddle board in the pond and take a spin around. The pond was surprisingly bigger than I’d expected. We look forward to staying again soon!

Mike was a very helpful and welcoming host. His little paradise offers a lot of seclusion and a great view of their really large pond, which is practically a lake. I had a problem with my trailer, and Mike jumped on it and helped me immediately. There’s chickens running around with roosters and tons of different fruit trees, and a lot of wildlife and it’s a great little spot that I will definitely return to.

I had a lovely stay with my jeep and dog at Mike’s place on the pond. A hidden gem I’d say, a working organic fruit farm brilliant with eclectic old Florida rustic charm. Mike was so incredibly friendly, showing me around the beautiful property., a work in progress full of passion and love for the land. My camp site 7 was quiet, clean and just remote enough to enjoy a beautiful evening amongst the stars. The morning of my departure, Mike stopped by to gift me with some lovely star fruit. Such a thoughtful gesture and so incredibly kind. I would highly recommend Mikes place, getting away tucked into this beautiful piece of land at the pond , a quiet little piece of heaven amongst the fruit trees with a bohemian grass roots vibe.

We loved our brief stay at the Back 40, on the Myakka River. A few suggestions to future travelers:
1) book it - this is a beautiful property at the end of a long dirt road, nestled into live oaks. Your campsite might be near others, but you can't see them.
2) be sure to ask the host about fossil hunting nearby. The Peace River is close, and the host has ample experience and is happy to share! After we broke camp, we took our two kids (9 & 7) to Arcadia for a few hours of fossil gathering. Super fun!!
3) The sound of gunfire, off in the distance: there's a gun club pretty far away, and as noted in other reviews, you might hear it. It's a light "pop pop pop" and not a "bang bang bang," and no one but me in our campsite knew what they were hearing. Those sounds were oddly starting up at about dark (6:00) and probably quit by 6:45 - was not disturbing.

This was a perfect little secluded area! Ted and Helen were great hosts and greeted me when I arrived to ensure I was settled. They gave me a little info packet with nearby stuff. I only stayed for a couple days but you’re only about 20 minutes to Punta Gorda if you want some city stuff. Water and electric hookup was good for me and there’s a campground nearby that does dumps if needed.

A working farm oasis perfect for primitive camping! There is a sandy drive looping around a pond area where rustic camp sites are designated; so it makes the camping best for tenting or a camper van sized vehicle. There is no restroom, showering, water, electric available, but this is not a deal breaker. The land is lovely and sites are well spaced and give you privacy. A bit of highway hum can be heard, but not enough to distract or keep you awake. It is best to make reservations in advance and arrive prior to sundown. Nice quiet spot, was a bit confused finding gate as it’s at a dead end in a neighborhood and I assumed it was more country from the pics, so I thought I was lost. Mike was very helpful and met me at the gate and I followed him to my spot. Surroundings in my area were pretty. Site 7 wasn’t exactly as the pic represented.. it was a pull off next to the dirt road that takes you around the pond. Not much room to put out a tent but I was camping in my car so it was fine for me. I drove around the pond and other areas had more room, so if you’re tent camping I’d pick a different site than 7. Overall, it’s a great location and a nice safe stay and would stay here again

Camping at Melissa & Ryan's place was absolutely great in every way! We were welcomed with the kindest greeting and they made us feel so comfortable being at their place. We travel with a small teardrop camper and have to set up shade and privacy tents along with awnings and I was a little worried they would be annoyed by our little tent city in their yard. Instead they encouraged us to set up however we wanted and assisted us with filling our water tank and showing us around the place. The site itself was perfect, large and spacious with a concrete patio, Adirondack chairs and a fire pit. Full electric hookup and access to their hose. The land was flat and easy to park our trailer on.
We had complete privacy and felt comfortable hanging out there and coming and going as we pleased. Melissa helped us add extra nights and was quick to reply to any text. Overall it was a great stay and I would highly recommend anyone looking for a stay in this area to use Melissa!
Also - an easy driving distance to so many beaches - we made it to Sarasota, Bradenton, Tampa, and Siesta Key. A perfect camping trip.

What a great place to camp! We were visiting friends in the area so we were coming and going alit but a morning walk around the lake was a great way to start the day. Other groups were there taking advantage of this property.

Palma Sola Bay
Wade west to Palma Sola Bay and get immersed in one of Florida’s wildlife preserves. With cabins, campgrounds, and RV resorts, this gorgeous stretch of land and sea provides the perfect place to set up camp. Only 75 minutes from Bradenton, this paddle trail preserve is a welcomed disconnect from life on land.
When to go
Florida’s fortunate climate of year-round warm temperatures make camping near Bradenton a delight any time. Tenting, backpacking, and car camping are most recommended between May and October with the humid high temperatures turning to evening chills in the opposing months. Though camping is easily accessible and certainly done year-round—it is the Sunshine State, after all—with higher temperatures come more mosquitos. Be prepared with protection during the early morning, dusk, and evening hours when they are most active.
