There are trash cans and restrooms at the rest stop at I-25 and Highway 165. Firewood is available to purchase nearby in Colorado City at Ace Hardware and others. You will have your choice of Camp site #1 and/or #2. They have flat mulched areas for an RV/Camper or for tent camping. Each has a fire ring and picnic table. Both sites allow room to turn around an RV or camper. Bring your own toilet for now. There is minimal shade available, so plan accordingly. Potable water is available at the blue ground hydrant in front of the little cabin to the west. It takes about 10 seconds to start running. Use of firearms is prohibited. No fireworks are allowed. We brought out wolf pup 16bhsbl travel trailer out to camps the site is huge with plenty of space for 2-3 other families. The directions were easy to follow, however there was one sign that was missing as per the written instructions. One of our party members missed the gate because of the missing sign. The entrance to the camp sign was a little rutted out and you should feel comfortable off roading with a trailer.

This place was absolutely amazing! Josh was very accommodating with our last minute booking. The campsite was clean and the bell tent with 2 cots and a futon was super comfy! The propane fire pit, hammock, table with an umbrella and driving range were a lovely addition and the view was absolutely spectacular. Truly an A++ glamping experience! Highly recommended!!!

Joshua’s land was just what we were looking for. Extremely peaceful and a night sky that will blow your mind. We spent two nights here in our van and fell in love with the Spanish Peaks area. Do yourself a favor and pop over to Great Sand Dunes NP, about a 1.5 hour drive and worth every minute. Lots of cool old farming artifacts on the property too. This camp site was prepared very thoughtfully and it made the trip very comfortable! Beautiful country, private campsite, gorgeous view right from the tent. We had no neighbors but even if we did, they were far enough off I don't think we would have felt crowded. From the cots with pads on top to the chairs to the bear rattle in the cave. We felt very safe, the road to the property had a locked gate. Josh responded to messages quickly, he was professional and kind! Excellent experience!

Where to go

Downtown Pueblo

Downtown Pueblo is filled with restaurants and museums. It’s also a popular destination for kayakers, considering one of Colorado’s best whitewater rivers flows right through town. The park spans nearly a half-mile of the Arkansas River and features man-made rapids and drops. You can find several RV parks on the outskirts of town.

Lake Pueblo State Park

Located just west of town, Lake Pueblo State Park is a popular spot for water sports. When the reservoir is full, there are some 60 miles of shoreline and over 4,600 surface acres of water, meaning that despite the lake’s popularity, it never feels overwhelmingly crowded. Two full-service marinas rent jet skis, motor boats, and paddleboards, and the campground offers nearly 400 campsites for both tents and RVs.

Gold Belt Tour National Scenic Byway

The Gold Belt Tour National Scenic Byway is a 131-mile scenic drive between Canon City and Cripple Creek, Colorado. The route passes numerous mining ruins, historic sites, and outdoor recreation areas as it retraces the old supply routes between some of Colorado’s biggest gold rush towns including Florissant, Victor, Cañon City, and Florence. It’s a great option for history buffs and campers will find overnight options along the byway.

Great Sand Dunes National Park

Set two hours southwest of Pueblo, Great Sand Dunes National Park is one of America’s newest national parks, home to the highest sand dunes in North America, where visitors come to hike and sled. Campers can stay at the park’s Pinon Flats Campground and wake up right at the base of the dunes.

When to go

Pueblo’s mild year-round climate makes it an excellent destination any time of the year. The town is often overlooked as a Colorado outdoor destination, so it’s a great option in summer when crowds flock to more popular mountain towns. That being said, Lake Pueblo does see its share of visitors in summer, so campground reservations are strongly recommended. Pueblo is also home to the Colorado State Fair, which runs for two weeks in late August and early September.

Know before you go

Pueblo is known for its Mexican food, so make sure to try the city’s signature dish: the slopper, an open-faced cheeseburger smothered in spicy green chile sauce.
Head to the city’s Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center for pleasant hiking trails along the Arkansas River.
The Royal Gorge of the Arkansas River is one of the most scenic stretches of the river, and rafting trips are offered from outfitters in Pueblo.
