The Great Sand Dunes and Zapata Falls is just a (gorgeous) 35 minute drive. Camping here at the Rabbit Hole Ranch is primitive and dispersed (no numbered sites) and there 30 acres available for you to use. Just follow the signs to the designated area and pick out a spot you like. Some spots have fire rings, some don’t. We are working on getting more, but in the meantime you’re welcome to bring your own. Or feel free to dig out a little hole. It works great and is easy to extinguish when you fill it back in and bury it. Please do not bury any trash. Typically, you will experience a rare kind of solitude and silence that feels…. other-worldly, with incredible sunrises and sunsets filling the enormous skies. On holidays, however, expect it to be busy. Our dogs are working dogs and they are more than happy to help keep you and your pets safe. Please help make their jobs easier by not leaving any food or trash in or around tents. Please keep your pets on leash or under control until you’re comfortably certain they get along with our dogs. And please report any issues promptly. This year we have a new Great Pyrenees to greet you, her name is Boudicca and she’s excited to meet everyone! In 2021, we were featured in USA Todays Ten Best for star gazing! My property has 360 degree mountains views with the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as our back yard. Nearby you can find many different trail systems for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to jeeping, ATV or dirt biking and equestrians - you can find it all! You will be surrounded by BLM land, BACA land, and Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. Be sure to bring extra bug spray and protection needed against biting insects such as flies, gnats, and mosquitoes. For those bringing your pets, they MUST be on a leash/lead at all times. While I do not have much cactus on my property, I do have an abundance of greasewood (Chico brush) which is very thorn-like if stepped on. As the Scenic Passenger Train is heard in the distance you'll look up towards Mount Blanca and imagine your next adventure living among the wildflowers of this High Desert Mountain Hipcamp. After recovering from a wildfire, the ancient sage brushes that had previously made the land harsh and unwelcoming are nearly gone, replaced with an abundance of grasses and wildflowers if blessed with rains. Open Land as far as you can go to the East you'll follow the Coyote canyon to high mountain lookouts. There are old logging maintenance roads you could take advantage of, so Hike, Bike or Motor around the local area. Fort Garland and Blanca have a community center (pool), septic dump and water fill and can provide groceries. The Great Sand dunes are about 45 minutes away. The Sand Dunes swimming pool, fed by a very hot artisan well is about an hour away. Mountain Home Lake is also within 1/2 an hour or so for fishing/water sports with a nice boat ramp. Escape from light pollution like never before, a clear night sky will make the whole trip worthwhile! Lots of wild life and you will most likely see some deer, hear the coyotes, and count the different colors of the humming birds. You can book a train ride out of Alamosa, and visit the local historic towns. The views will make it hard to leave the campsite, but there are tons of experiences and things to do in the area so make sure to do some research before you arrive. The weather and wind can be unpredictable in the mountains, so be prepared. There are two entrances onto the property, one at the bottom and one at the top. You can avoid some wind by camping near Lewis-Smith Rd at the lowest part of the land. Also, the site can accommodate large trailers/RV's but just make sure to plan your entrance/exit carefully and don't go to far down the hills. Just choose a wise spot to park if in a big rig. There are some small tires around that you can use to sit on or if you dig a hole that you fill in before leaving you can make a temporary toilet. Make sure to haul out all your trash and leave the site cleaner than it was when you arrived and respect the land. 4 nights at Bear Creek Ranch

It's too cold to tent camp so this quaint cabin was perfect. Still cooked on camp stove outside but with the benefit of electricity to heat up water in kettle provided. Had a lovely campfire one night but mostly stayed warm with the wood burning stove. We normally bring 10 gallons of water but this had a potable well pump that saved us the trouble. It was a perfectly relaxing atmosphere and stay. The night sky was gorgeous. The hike around the property lovely. The dogs were friendly and charming. Lorie is attentive and helpful. At my questioning she suggested Beckwith Ranch a worthwhile stop. I spent 2 hours there and got a private tour! It was a wonderful stay. Oh, and the the outhouse was positively posh😊

We brought out wolf pup 16bhsbl travel trailer out to camps the site is huge with plenty of space for 2-3 other families. The directions were easy to follow, however there was one sign that was missing as per the written instructions. One of our party members missed the gate because of the missing sign. The entrance to the camp sign was a little rutted out and you should feel comfortable off roading with a trailer.

This place was great! So thoughtfully designed -- even though there aren't any trees, the campsites are situated so that you can't really see one another when you're in your little space. Lots of little touches, like the lights along the pathway, a nice playground in the park, the cantina in the middle, make it a really pleasant stay. And the showers! Very very nice showers. The host, Adam, was really friendly and accommodating, and we had a really nice stay the very last day of the season. Will definitely return!

Weekend Trip to High Peaks Campground

We had a great time staying out here this past weekend. It was very windy and rainy, but that is to be expected. The property is very calming and open, which is great for the astrophotography we were able to take. Clouds made it difficult, but that isn't Christine's fault! The water from the pump is very rusty, and we opted not to drink/use it. However, there is a Dollar General 6 miles up the road, so it was no big deal! Would definitely recommend staying here.

Weekend Trip to Bear Creek Ranch

We had such a lovely time at Bear Creek Ranch. The cabin is supplied well with things like an electric kettle, tea bags, coffee, firewood, and a fan for warm evenings. We loved getting to lay in the grass in front of the cabin and see the Milky Way. We made fires in the evenings in the wood stove, so cozy. The dogs are calm and friendly, as are the horses. The outhouse was very clean and not smelly at all, and very close to the cabin. It was a perfect weekend getaway for us to slow down and reconnect.

Had the BEST time tent camping here over the weekend! The staff onsite was friendly and helpful. The sites and bathrooms were clean and well managed.
