Located near the base of Mt. Blanca, a beautiful 14'er - and close to the Great Sand Dunes, wildlife and nature preserves, and reservoirs. Camp sites are located just 1 mile from the base of the mountain. The entire property is a hummingbird sanctuary, so your chances of seeing hummingbirds is quite high! We are also next to the elk migration crossing, so you could see elk, deer, pronghorns, or even get a visit from one of the wild horse packs in the valley! This is a great location if you want to be close to things, but feel like you're far away! Lots of athletes come to this area to train at the higher altitude! Visit the town of San Luis (the oldest town in Colorado), hop over to Antonito and check out the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic railroad, hit the UFO tower in Hooper, or just lounge on your campsite and get the best view of the Milky Way you've ever seen! The hard part is choosing what to do in the day before enjoying the night sky after.Learn more about this land:Secluded camping spot back up against a small mountain and a canal outside Ft.Garland, CO . Very private w/few to no cars passing by ever. Very few neighbors in site at all. The site is close to the canal with room for two tents and a vehicle down by the site and one at top . Pack in pack out human waste as we are close to a water source . Follow the wash located next to the heart with an arrow up to the second pinion tree and you will see the secret camp toilet . Open both lids to secure bag when using the restroom and seal the bag closed when done each time and take sealed bags home please as critters will find there way in ! Please clean toilet seat after use . Feel free to explore the property and check out the many critters and wildlife running around and an unbelievable night sky on a clear night. We are very close to a reservoir with great beaches , the Sand dunes and the town is only 8 mins drive for supplies ! It’s magical out here . 4 nights at PR Ranch - Fly Fishing

This is a little secret I hate to let people know about. We were the only ones camping this week. We had the entire place to ourselves. We ran into the owner and 2 ranch hands a couple of times, but besides that we were all alone. The owner and ranch hands were extremely nice. The fly fishing was top notch. I fished for 3 days and caught 15-18 inch trout every day. The river was maintained very well. We were here the first week of October and the colors of the trees was unbelievable. My wife wanted seclusion, river, and colors. I wanted fly fishing. We got everything we both wanted. I want to visit this ranch again.

Beautiful spot on the river! County rd next to it but is rarely used. I did have some families of Amish drive by in horse and buggy. Good fishing. River was low but I managed a handful over a day and a half, one 18”. Height of leaves changing and so colors were amazing. Great hosts. Provide all firewood too!

this was an awesome spot! i don’t think there were any other campers when we went so it felt like we truly had the whole place to ourselves! the mountain view was absolutely incredible, and the open night sky was spectacular to see! our dogs absolutely loved it, didn’t want to leave! temperature was great, didn’t need electric hookups. was a little windy, but nothing some bungee cables couldn’t fix! the host was also very kind and detailed with instructions, and allowed an early check in. overall this was spot was awesome and i would highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to PR Ranch - Fly Fishing

We stayed at site#1. It was truly one of the most amazing sites we’ve stayed at, and we’ve stayed at several. Glenn’s ranch is about 20 min from Monte Vista. The Alamosa River cuts through much of it. Site #1 sits right off of the road, which is no big deal because there is very little traffic that comes through that county road. The site is big and flat with plenty of shade. Sits directly on the river with a nice shallow wading area. My husband enjoyed lots of fly fishing & caught several fish. There are 2 nice fire pits & a grate. Glenn was very accommodating & communication was easy. We enjoyed meeting him & learning about the area & ranch. Hope to be back again sometime. I suspect my husband will look him up to come back to stay on the ranch & flyfish someday:)

Quintana’s land was absolutely stunning. The views were amazing. It was real windy the night we pulled in and set up. The next morning was spectacular. I would definitely recommend if your wanting to get away from the city life.

The location was ideal for access to the Great Sand Dunes and had an excellent view of the sunset and Mt. Blanca. It was very nice to have space for our group to spread out and not worry about bothering others in a campground.

This is such a cool spot! The views are wild of all the mountains and the dunes off in the distance. We saw what was probably one of the best Coloradan sunsets. The site itself was extremely flat for tents and there was a nice fire pit and some solar lights that could be turned off and on. It was pretty easy to find if you just follow the lat/long coordinates and look for the entrance wood poles.

This was a perfect spot for our group to camp near the Great Sand Dunes. Beautiful views of the mountains & you can see the dunes from this spot. The sunsets were incredible too. One thing to note - the spot was very hard to find (no sign) and we were originally on someone else’s land accidentally (we got chased out by 10 aggressive dogs). The host was available when we called and helped us navigate to the correct spot though! Our group booked all 3 sites and I’m glad we did because if not, other campers would be too close since there’s no clear road to drive around the 5 acres. There was already an easy-up popup that we used for shade which was nice too. I’d recommend this spot! Just know that it is primitive camping and very dusty if there are high winds.
