We live in a remote area and its beautiful and quiet.  There is a local town 6 miles down the road that has several places to eat and one small place to get some grocery. This property that we live on has been lived on now by 4 generations. My grandpa bought this land with his brother in 1940s. His brother eventually sold his portion leaving my grandpa with a little over 500 acres...We also run retreats off and on year round on the main property and offer a wide variety of things for our clients. Due to COVID, and the strange year had, we thought that this would help us gain a little of our money lost as well as meet some really cool travelers along the way. We call this God's country because it is a unique and beautiful peace of land, even in the driest of moments. And...there is beautiful manzanita trees all over property. We personally live 1/2 mile from the main part of the property Jameson Ranch, where the summer camp is held. I love to garden and are in the process of expanding our portion of the property to putting in fruit orchards and berry bushes. Our whole property also borders the Sequoia National Forest and there are some fun walking trails around there. Its very peaceful here and a reconnect with nature so to speak if that is what you are looking for. We hope to share this little bit of our heaven with you. This is a extremely quiet neighbrohood and noise travels fast & easily. Quiet hours are 10pm-8am. The property is equiped with noise monitoring devices and occupancy count devices, we will be notified if noise levels exceed a certain level. Additionally we will be notified if occupancy count exceeds the number of guests booked on site. *Smoking allowed outdoors only. *Shoes off inside the house. *Children MUST be supervised and monitored at all times. *No surprise guests, only those accounted for and registered can enter the property. *No firearms *Please do not put grease or solid food down the kitchen sink. Septik tank is sensitive *Please do no flush wipes, paper or feminine products down the toilet as the septik tank is sensitive. *This is a rural property and as such, there is wildlife which includes: rabbits, squirrels, rats, mice, coyotes, snakes, lizards, birds, bugs, and spiders, to name a few. *Please keep the doors closed to prevent the above wildlife from joining you in the home during your stay. *There are five secuirty cameras on the property for safety reasons. One at the main gate, one at the main home, one at the corner of the garage, one at the carport and one by the river. NONE in the house. *The canvas bell tent can also be booked for camping by the river, which could sleep 3-6 people, inquire within. *Pets are allowed on the property (fee's apply), however must be monitored at all times and not left alone. Pets must be kept close to owners at all times to avoid issues with wildlife, no pets on the furniture and beds. A fine will be applied if pets have been lounging on bedding and furniture.

Our camp area is right next to our home. We live on 2 acres which is apart of our families 500 acre ranch and home to a summer camp and retreats. There are nice hiking trails we can direct you to as long as the National Forest isn't closed. We have a few picnic tables, outdoor electrical, a grill, fresh spring water, water hook up and beautiful scenery all around. We do own a few ca.  Our space isn’t huge but we are happy to share. We live in a remote area and its beautiful and quiet.  There is a local town 6 miles down the road that has several places to eat and one small place to get some grocery. This property that we live on has been lived on now by 4 generations. My grandpa bought this land with his brother in 1940s. His brother eventually sold his portion leaving my grandpa with a little over 500 acres...We also run retreats off and on year round on the main property and offer a wide variety of things for our clients. Due to COVID, and the strange year had, we thought that this would help us gain a little of our money lost as well as meet some really cool travelers along the way. We call this God's country because it is a unique and beautiful peace of land, even in the driest of moments. And...there is beautiful manzanita trees all over property. We personally live 1/2 mile from the main part of the property Jameson Ranch, where the summer camp is held. I love to garden and are in the process of expanding our portion of the property to putting in fruit orchards and berry bushes. Our whole property also borders the Sequoia National Forest and there are some fun walking trails around there. Its very peaceful here and a reconnect with nature so to speak if that is what you are looking for. We hope to share this little bit of our heaven with you. I had no issues with my stay Jessica was very quick to respond, left plenty of information for me to find the property/entrance/site. I was bikepacking so It was just my bike & tent. Ground was soft and flat. Area was quite. Price is good Bathroom with flush toilet You can see some Big Ole' Birds 10/10 would bird again.

I had an absolutely wonderful and truly unique experience at Josh & Jessica’s Tent Camp @ Working Ostrich Ranch! From the moment I arrived, the hosts made me feel right at home. They were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable, offering clear instructions and being very accessible throughout my stay. Their attention to detail really showed, especially in how they prioritize the safety of the magnificent ostriches—this is definitely not a petting zoo! It's a real, working ranch, and the rules in the description are there to keep both guests and animals safe. The elder rancher is a fountain of knowledge—his stories and insights were fascinating, and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him. It was clear that he has a deep respect and understanding of the land and animals. My campsite was tucked away in a peaceful corner by the archery range—an ideal spot for stargazing under the open sky and listening to the enchanting sounds of the surrounding wildlife. I loved the rustic charm of the site, which offered a sense of solitude while still feeling completely safe and well-maintained. I’m already planning to return for a longer stay next time. I’d love to take the ranch tour and maybe even try an archery lesson! If you're looking for a memorable and peaceful camping experience at an authentic working farm, I highly recommend this spot. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind HipCamp.

What a wonderful cozy cabin this is! I stayed here on the way down to south Cali and it was a great remote stopover not too far from the main highway. Beautiful stars at night, responsive thoughtful host, lots of amenities in the cabin, super cozy bed. 10/10 for me:)

This place was just what we were looking for. A quiet getaway in a beautiful setting. There is a farm and our toddler loved seeing the goats, chickens and donkey. We were shown great hospitality from the host and made us feel at home. Great hikes right outside the door! We were even able to purchase some meat and eggs from the farm! A unique experience all around, would highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Kernville Ranch

Great location off the beaten path. Nice and quiet, with lots of critters to gawk at, domesticated and wild. Deer wandered by while we soaked in the hot tub watching horses, and at night we were serenaded by nearby coyotes. The property has lots of character itself and is near enough to Kernville proper to go out for a hot meal, browse its shops, or hunt-down Quartzburg ghost town (which I strongly recommend!).

Weekend Trip to Bakersfield Farm Animals & Pond

My daughter just turned 17. Instead of a party she said, “I want to go camping with my friends and see the stars.” Which is awesome accept that the last time she went camping she was ten and her Dad and I did all of the heavy lifting and while I am sure she and her friends could have learned the hard way how to camp, since it was her birthday i wanted it to be special and easy. I searched on HipCamp and found, “Camping by the pond,” and, “Autonomous Farms.” I thought, “Oh. This is perfect.” I arrived before the girls and was greeted by the camp host, a white furry beautiful goddess named, Cleo, aka a Dog. I was alone but surrounded by goats, ducks, cows, chickens, peacocks, the sound of toads and other farm animals and Cleo hung by me as I unpacked the Wagoneer and set up the teepee, tent, sunshade, and birthday signs. I felt safe with Cleo as every time a car drive by, her ears shot up, her eyes went laser beam and her tail stood up. I knew, no matter what comes, Cleo is going to guard us. When my girls arrived, my new BF and I greeted them. On the first night, Cleo slept outside our tents and on day 2 she slept with the girls.

Where to go

Brite Valley Aquatic Recreation Area

Set amongst lush greenery with a mountain backdrop, Brite Valley Aquatic Recreation Area and Brite Lake’s landscape provide hiking, fishing, wildlife watching, and camping amenities, from tent to car to RV (with hookups and dump stations). The aquatic area provides drinking and home-use water for residents of the area, so swimming or wading is prohibited. But boating and fishing (with proper permits) let campers enjoy a fish dinner at one of the fish-cleaning sites, campsite fire pits and grills, or picnic pavilions. Plan to visit during special events, like the parks department’s fishing derby or Astronomy Club star parties. Campers can pay a daily fee at the entrance or snag a yearly pass from the Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District.

Tehachapi Mountain Park

This 490 acre park in the mountains just south of Tehachapi features first come, first serve campsites, each with ample space for a single trailer, vehicle, or RV. The park’s open year-round, just be sure to bring snow chains for your tires. In summer, hike the Nuooah Nature Trail or marvel at high-altitude views from horseback. Group camping sites with cabin rentals make Tehachapi Mountain Park a welcoming wilderness experience. Campers should be sure to drop their fees in the honor-system backed fee box by the park’s entrance duck pond.

Fort Tejon State Historic Park

Fort Tejon State Historic Park is a living history park nestled in the lush meadow of the Grapevine Canyon featuring a unique opportunity to experience what life was like for soldiers and civilians on the very edge of the California frontier. The park offers tent camping and RV hookups, complete with picnic tables, barbecues, and fire pits. Though there are no designated hiking trails, campers can watch wildlife visiting Grapevine Creek, explore nearby Los Padres Forest, or discover the 220-mile-long surface rupture scar left over from one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded along the San Andreas faultline.

When to go

Tehachapi experiences all four seasons, with summers usually between 58 and 88°F, so June and July are ideal times to visit. Consider March, April, or May, with early spring temps averaging 52°F because many campgrounds, recreation areas, and state parks operate year-round, so campers will have access to everything in spring they would in summer, without the potential for packed campgrounds.
