STRONG WINDS The winds in the desert are very strong between February and June which may limit your enjoyment of the outdoor amenities. We do all we can to navigate around the winds but cannot control the impact it may have on your stay. POWER OUTAGES The power is cut off for 8-12 hours at least twice a year by the electrical company in order for maintenance to be done (for instance in preparation for the fire seasons). We inform our guests of outages as soon as we are made aware but cannot control the time or manner in which this may impact your stay. Remote enough for a quiet retreat yet easy to get to and only a short drive to amenities and outdoor adventures! Please review our rules and read our entire listing description prior to requesting to stay here, to assure we’re the right space for you. Copies of our rules, registration documents, liability waiver and amenities are provided in our photos. Guests must agree to adhere to our rules and honor our cancellation policy to book with us. If you have any questions, please make an inquiry and we will get back to you very quickly. We really do love this work. LOCATION: We are located one mile down a well maintained and navigable dirt road, 20 minutes to Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert, and 15 minutes to the 10 freeway. We're near the Cabazon outlets, 2 hours to Los Angeles, San Diego, Disneyland, mountain areas, and beaches. Nearby there are local wildlife preserves, hiking and outdoor activities. We are 45 minutes to Joshua Tree and a half hour to Coachella. We truly are in the middle of nowhere and the center of everything. For folks traveling in winter, we’re considerably warmer than Joshua Tree and the High Desert. In summer we are cooler than Palm Springs. Immediate neighbors are small farmers and ranchers. Local spas and resorts are available for day use and access to their pools and ponds for as little as $10 a day ($5 seniors). We can provide space for events and entertainment for a small fee. ARRIVAL: Upon approving your reservation we'll send you a welcome message with information we need prior to your arrival to process your reservation, prepare for your arrival and provide you with check in information and accurate directions as gps apps to our location are often wrong. Please answer that initial email as soon as possible. We'll follow up with check in information and driving directions. Once in the gate, stay on the driveway and meet us on the patio with the blue shade sails. We will provide you with an approximately 15 minute orientation and tour, register you, check identification and show you to your campsite. Guests are required to fill out a liability waiver and a simple registration form. (See photos for copies of these forms.) OUR SPACE: Our land is 130 feet wide by an eighth of a mile deep in a residential neighborhood with lots 2.5-10 acres. We can see and hear our neighbors. We maintain a very quiet space but occasionally our neighbors have their own activities and events. Let us know if the neighborhood gets too noisy and we'll try to mitigate those situations. We can also provide free earplugs for those very rare occasions. Guests wanting a totally isolated experience may want to book elsewhere. DragonflyHill Desert Farm is a working farm in a wilderness area. Guests should check weather forecasts prior to arrival and assure that they have the right equipment. We have a moderate cancellation policy that allows guests to cancel 3 days prior to their arrival date to receive a refund. This allows enough time to check weather reports. There are occasional heavy rains and frequent high winds. It can get very hot in summer and reach freezing temperatures in winter. Despite our proximity to the freeway and nearby cities, and our location in a residential neighborhood, this is very much a wilderness area. DragonflyHill is not responsible for the weather. We are not a resort. Expect dry plants and patches during summer and into the fall. As a farm, we may be a bit more rustic than your typical farm to allow for shelter for local wildlife. Our cultivation methods encourage biodiversity and though we are growing food, many of our crops resemble landscaping or natural habitat rather than garden patches. Currently we have habitat viewing areas, an herb garden, an orchard, an outdoor classroom, a sheltered social distancing patio, an outdoor kitchen, meditation gardens, our (seasonal) mineral pool, community library, game boards and toys, and a tree bath. Plant varieties, wildlife and presentation may vary by season. Our farm specializes in herbs, fruit trees, desert and native plants, and edible flowers. We also grow some sprouts and microgreens indoors. We cultivate community and share what we grow with our neighbors and our guests. Guests have shared access to the outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, the orchards, gardens, patios, and grounds of the Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat, and (for safety reasons) limited access to the pool pond and spa -both unheated. The pool pond is filled with local mineral water from our own well. The pool pond is cleaned regularly & is chlorinated. The pool pond is not cleaned daily and is shared with wildlife. including bees and birds who drink water pool side. Debris from high winds and wildlife may contribute to the pool pond environment. Currently neither the pool pond nor the spa is heated. We also have wheelchair accessible hot water outdoor showers and wheelchair accessible porta potties. The pool area is accessible to guests year round but the pool itself is winterized and unavailable from mid October through mid to late April. We work hard to keep the home well maintained & clean; we're vigilant & do due diligence with professional quarterly visits from Truly Nolen 4 Season Pest Prevention (a green company.) We doubt you'll see any unwanted critters inside or near the house or other structures during your stay, but if you do, please advise us & we will promptly address the situation. DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat is in a remote area of the desert with lots of wildlife. To help us keep wildlife OUT of the house and campsites, please keep food out of reach of critters & clean up after every meal. We affirmatively welcome children, but as this is a working farm in a wilderness area, parents will need to be vigilant of their child's safety and activity while here. We are constantly adding activities and features for children and adults. We are child friendly and we are a good location for groups. (Just message us with your details and we can tailor your stay to meet your needs.) We have 1 cat and 1 service dog. Other guests may have pets or assistance animals. Neighbors have chickens, farm animals and pets. There are a few feral cats in the vicinity as well as a variety of desert wildlife. At night you can hear the coyotes though we’ve never seen them or their tracks on our land. Common sightings of road runners, rabbits, hares, lizards, snakes, hawks, doves, desert wrens, migrating ducks (in the Spring), scorpions, mantises, crickets, mockingbirds, insects and spiders. WHO WE ARE: DragonflyHill is a community of artisans, activists, craftspeople and farmers, working together to cultivate community, develop methodologies for living and working together in ever increasing paradigms of social justice and sustainability. We are a safe and sober space that is disability and LGBTQIA affirmative, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-imperialist and de-colonialist, because anything else is just a bandaid. Core values of our work include attention to detail, fine craftwork and cultivating community. Some members of the Dragonfly Team live on the premises at all times and will be here for the duration of your stay. The rest of the team are community members. All Team members work at DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat in different capacities, in cooperation and collaboration with each other. It should be noted that we are not a museum community and our collective is not on display. Only 2-3 members of the community are currently responsible for hosting guests. Community members are autonomous and, much of our community functions virtually. There are also occasional community events at the farm, including farming, though many activities are just coming back after the pandemic. We hope to offer activities in the Fall. If you have any questions, please make an inquiry and we will get back to you very quickly. We really do love this work. LOCATION: We are located one mile down a well maintained and navigable dirt road, 20 minutes to Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert, and 15 minutes to the 10 freeway. We're near the Cabazon outlets, 2 hours to Los Angeles, San Diego, Disneyland, mountain areas, and beaches. Nearby there are local wildlife preserves, hiking and outdoor activities. We are 45 minutes to Joshua Tree and a half hour to Coachella. We truly are in the middle of nowhere and the center of everything. For folks traveling in winter, we’re considerably warmer than Joshua Tree and the High Desert. In summer we are cooler than Palm Springs. Immediate neighbors are small farmers and ranchers. Local spas and resorts are available for day use and access to their pools and ponds for as little as $10 a day ($5 seniors). We can provide space for events and entertainment for a small fee. ARRIVAL: Upon approving your reservation we'll send you a welcome message with information we need prior to your arrival to process your reservation, prepare for your arrival and provide you with check in information and accurate directions as gps apps to our location are often wrong. Please answer that initial email as soon as possible. We'll follow up with check in information and driving directions. Once in the gate, stay on the driveway and meet us on the patio with the blue shade sails. We will provide you with an approximately 15 minute orientation and tour, register you, check identification and show you to your campsite. Guests are required to fill out a liability waiver and a simple registration form. (See photos for copies of these forms.) OUR SPACE: Our land is 130 feet wide by an eighth of a mile deep in a residential neighborhood with lots 2.5-10 acres. We can see and hear our neighbors. We maintain a very quiet space but occasionally our neighbors have their own activities and events. Let us know if the neighborhood gets too noisy and we'll try to mitigate those situations. We can also provide free earplugs for those very rare occasions. Guests wanting a totally isolated experience may want to book elsewhere. DragonflyHill Desert Farm is a working farm in a wilderness area. Guests should check weather forecasts prior to arrival and assure that they have the right equipment. We have a moderate cancellation policy that allows guests to cancel 3 days prior to their arrival date to receive a refund. This allows enough time to check weather reports. There are occasional heavy rains and frequent high winds. It can get very hot in summer and reach freezing temperatures in winter. Despite our proximity to the freeway and nearby cities, and our location in a residential neighborhood, this is very much a wilderness area. DragonflyHill is not responsible for the weather. We are not a resort. Expect dry plants and patches during summer and into the fall. As a farm, we may be a bit more rustic than your typical farm to allow for shelter for local wildlife. Our cultivation methods encourage biodiversity and though we are growing food, many of our crops resemble landscaping or natural habitat rather than garden patches. Currently we have habitat viewing areas, an herb garden, an orchard, an outdoor classroom, a sheltered social distancing patio, an outdoor kitchen, meditation gardens, our (seasonal) mineral pool, community library, game boards and toys, and a tree bath. Plant varieties, wildlife and presentation may vary by season. Our farm specializes in herbs, fruit trees, desert and native plants, and edible flowers. We also grow some sprouts and microgreens indoors. We cultivate community and share what we grow with our neighbors and our guests. Guests have shared access to the outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, the orchards, gardens, patios, and grounds of the Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat, and (for safety reasons) limited access to the pool pond and spa -both unheated. The pool pond is filled with local mineral water from our own well. The pool pond is cleaned regularly & is chlorinated. The pool pond is not cleaned daily and is shared with wildlife. including bees and birds who drink water pool side. Debris from high winds and wildlife may contribute to the pool pond environment. Currently neither the pool pond nor the spa is heated. We also have wheelchair accessible hot water outdoor showers and wheelchair accessible porta potties. The pool area is accessible to guests year round but the pool itself is winterized and unavailable from mid October through mid to late April. We work hard to keep the home well maintained & clean; we're vigilant & do due diligence with professional quarterly visits from Truly Nolen 4 Season Pest Prevention (a green company.) We doubt you'll see any unwanted critters inside or near the house or other structures during your stay, but if you do, please advise us & we will promptly address the situation. DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat is in a remote area of the desert with lots of wildlife. To help us keep wildlife OUT of the house and campsites, please keep food out of reach of critters & clean up after every meal. We affirmatively welcome children, but as this is a working farm in a wilderness area, parents will need to be vigilant of their child's safety and activity while here. We are constantly adding activities and features for children and adults. We are child friendly and we are a good location for groups. (Just message us with your details and we can tailor your stay to meet your needs.) We have 1 cat and 1 service dog. Other guests may have pets or assistance animals. Neighbors have chickens, farm animals and pets. There are a few feral cats in the vicinity as well as a variety of desert wildlife. At night you can hear the coyotes though we’ve never seen them or their tracks on our land. Common sightings of road runners, rabbits, hares, lizards, snakes, hawks, doves, desert wrens, migrating ducks (in the Spring), scorpions, mantises, crickets, mockingbirds, insects and spiders. WHO WE ARE: DragonflyHill is a community of artisans, activists, craftspeople and farmers, working together to cultivate community, develop methodologies for living and working together in ever increasing paradigms of social justice and sustainability. We are a safe and sober space that is disability and LGBTQIA affirmative, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-imperialist and de-colonialist, because anything else is just a bandaid. Core values of our work include attention to detail, fine craftwork and cultivating community. Some members of the Dragonfly Team live on the premises at all times and will be here for the duration of your stay. The rest of the team are community members. All Team members work at DragonflyHill Desert Farm and Wildlife Habitat in different capacities, in cooperation and collaboration with each other. The hot mineral water is incredible! We go to a lot of mineral Springs and they all have different minerals and benefits, but we found that Ron’s Hot Springs gave us the most relief out of any hot spring. My husband and I are nearly 70 with lots and lots of aches and pains, and it was amazing how it Soothe them all away. Ron is a very gracious host, very prompt and accommodating if you contact him for anything. Since you’re away from the road, it was very, very quiet and peaceful. We’re already planning our next day there.

All of this plus more made for a comfortable, relaxing, and unique glamping experience. The hosts are very friendly and responsive. We reserved an RV/Tent site at the Date Farm and were pleasantly surprised when we were upgraded to the Dome campsite upon arrival. It's a new site on the Date Farm-- what a treat! :) Ron let us check in early and met us at the gate to guide us in with clear instructions. The dome itself was comfortable and well-equipped, with a large bed, seating area, and a private flushing toilet. The mineral pool was a real highlight — the instant hot water heater lets you adjust the temperature as it fills, which is fantastic. Our heater was a bit temperamental and needed attention a few times, but Ron responded quickly and was friendly and helpful each time. One area of concern was the presence of some litter and broken glass around the campsite. This may simply be due to it being a newly opened area, but finding glass shards, litter and loose metal wiring was a bit worrying. Other campsites on the property looked more tidy, so we’re confident this will be addressed as the site continues to develop. Firewood (with lighter fluid) and fresh dates are also available for purchase on-site, which was a nice bonus. Overall, this campground is great! It’s evident that Ron has put a lot of time and care into creating a unique experience. With a little additional cleanup and finishing touches, the Dome campsite will be truly special. We appreciate the upgrade and the hospitality, Ron!

My dog and I hiked up the mountain, prepared breakfast in the outdoor kitchen and swam and ate out by the beautiful pool. The bathroom area is perfect! In the Summer, Big Bear Valley offers countless hiking trails, boating and fishing in the lake, mountain and road biking, horseback riding, golf, ziplining, the zoo, and many other outdoor activities. In Winter, there's skiing/boarding, snowshoeing, sledding, and more. For kids, there's a "fort," swings, and a huge sandbox in a boat. They're also welcome to help feed our chickens. It's one of the youngest mountain ranges in the world (in geological terms) and features scores of steep, challenging peaks, which stretch from the natural hot springs of Deep Creek in the west, to huge Yucca forests in the east. 11,500-foot Mount San Gorgonio, named by Spanish missionaries in the early 17th century, is at the center of the first designated wilderness area in America. Also known as "Old Greyback," San Gorgonio and the 11 surrounding peaks over 10,000 feet are home to an extremely rare herd of bighorn sheep. The headwaters of the Santa Ana and Mojave rivers offer premier wild trout streams such as Bear Creek, accessible only by foot. Hundreds of miles of unpaved National Forest roads offer every type of off-road experience -- ranging from an easy drive to Pioneertown, to the most radical 4WD trails imaginable (11 Difficults, six Most Difficults). The Cabin is right in the middle of the major routes. After a day here, you may find it hard to believe that you're just 100 miles (and perhaps a century) away from Downtown Los Angeles. This is an original 1958 pink brick cabin with with lots of modern upgrades for a comfortable and cozy getaway. Black marble tile floors, small 575 square foot cabin with big views on our 5 acre property. Great place to stay for off-roading. Plenty of parking for your toys next to the cabin. For our summer guests: We have a very strong central A/C throughout. I have stayed here in 114 degree heat and it has still been cool and comfortable inside. For our winter guests: We have an indoor pellet fireplace which keeps the living room warm, and our bed has a dual-control heating pad (each side can choose their own heat level), and there is a radiant wall heater in the bathroom. There is also central heating for the especially cold nights--please use only when necessary as we are on electric only here and the central heater is not very energy efficient. Our hot tub is designed to stay hot all the time so we always have it set for 100 degrees so it's ready to go when you arrive. Backyard has firepit for cold winter nights to enjoy the stars. We are available through the app or phone any time during your stay and also have local contacts available as well for any on-site emergencies. We're located in Johnson Valley, just about 5 minutes to King of the Hammers/Johnson Valley OHV area, 17 minutes to the Integratron, 18 minutes to La Copine Restaurant, 35 minutes to downtown Joshua Tree, 40 min to Joshua Tree Park West entrance, 45 min to Big Bear. We are just near the "Valley Vista Airport" if you want a better sense of the location. 4 adults max per reservation. Guest count must be accurate on reservation to see the correct pricing. Easy keyless entry with electronic Yale lock. KITCHEN: High-quality Calphalon cookware and bakeware, KitchenAid standing mixer, Chicago Cutlery knives, cooking utensils, coffee bean grinder and drip coffee maker with filters, compact rice maker and slow cooker, Blendtec blender, microwave, compact dishwasher, large Subzero fridge, compact freezer, electric hot water kettle, toaster, breakfast/counter for working or enjoying meals with desert views. We also provide a pack n play crib upon request. Electronic projector with Roku smart TV, record player with records to enjoy, books to borrow. Indoor pellet fireplace. INFO ABOUT PETS: Dogs must be pre-approved before booking (please provide age, size, breed, etc.) to make sure they're a good fit for our place. There is a $50 pet fee per dog per reservation ($50 fee applies weekly for bookings of 7 days or longer). Please note no dogs on furniture and dogs cannot be left alone in the house at any time. There is doggie daycare for $18/day at Blue Barn Ranch or $30/day at Joshua Tree Pet Resort. We have real marble floors and ask you ensure your dogs have trimmed nails before they arrive that will not scratch them. Please note our property is not fenced. We have a neighbor that walks by each morning with 2 large and friendly dogs around 6:30-7am. There are coyotes and other wild animals that can be in the area so dogs should never be let out alone after dark. We do have a compact washer/dryer and only give access only for stays 5 or more nights. Please keep in mind we are on hauled water and usage should be within reason. OUTDOOR AMENITIES: We have a sitting area with wood firepit. Please note we do not provide firewood--they can be purchased at any local grocery store. If we have some there you are welcome to use it, but we don’t guarantee we will supply it or replenish if it runs out during your stay. If you are coming for a long stay and would like a lot of firewood, our neighbor can give you a quote to deliver. HOT TUB: No glass around or in hot tub, we have plastic cups provided. Please place hot tub cover on wood surround or rocks below, not on the ground/dirt. Please rinse off in the shower and wipe dirt/sand off your feet before entering hot tub. All 4 buckles on the cover and extra sandbags must be secured when not in use—it gets very windy here and the cover could easily blow away. Hot tub can be used any time, but please respect our neighbors and keep noise to a minimum after 10pm. ***Please note our hot tub gets serviced weekly on Fridays*** TV/INTERNET: We have a Roku TV with basic live channels as well as typical smart apps. Our wifi is 25 down/5 up and we typically actually get those speeds or a bit more on our tri-band mesh network with coverage both inside and outside the house. I have been able to watch streaming TV plus use my laptop to work at the same time without any issues. However please note when it gets especially windy, the internet can go in and out. DESERT/CABIN STUFF TO CONSIDER!! Please be aware we are in the actual desert! We have lots of nature around us and you will see some bugs and critters during your stay. We recommend keeping door closed at all times whenever possible to prevent bugs from getting in. During the summer there are lots of flies--if you leave doors open they will get inside. We have eco-friendly bug spray provided. In order to reach the house you'll need to drive about a mile down a dirt road. It's generally well-maintained and easy to drive, any type of car should be able to drive it (including regular sedans, etc.). However if there's heavy rain, it's possible it could be too muddy for 2-wheel drive vehicles. I have been able to get here without a problem in my 2WD SUV in the rain and even snow, but we are at the mercy of Mother Nature! Due to their age and not having screens, the windows are not to be opened (they are difficult to close and require multiple people and possibly tools to close them, tons of bugs go inside if left open, etc.). You can run the A/C on fan only if you want air circulation without A/C, but guests are not permitted to open them. We are on a water tank which means you need to be aware of willing to be conscious of your water use. Due to being on hauled water and septic and high electric costs, absolutely no filling up, emptying, or hooking up power of RVs, electric cars, trailers, etc. We have plenty of room if you want to park them on our property. We have two partially buried storage containers which we have created a barrier edge around the top, but guests need to be very cautious around the edges as there is a steep drop off on the other side of the barrier. In general guests need to take extreme care if choosing to walk around the yard as there may be steps and inclines that may be dangerous to walk on. There are animals and sharp desert plants on the property which could be dangerous to pets, children, or even adults. Guests exploring the property or letting their children/pets wander around the property do so at their own risk. If you drive off of the gravel areas of the driveway, you could get stuck in the sand, especially if your car does not have 4-wheel drive. We recommend to only drive and park on the areas with the gray rocks. As we are in an area where water is an especially precious resource, please be mindful of running the dishwasher or washing machine only when it's full, and if possible at night when the energy costs are lower. No electric car charging--if you charge your car or use any energy heavy equipment you will be charged an additional $50/day, or for actual cost of the extra usage above our average daily use, whichever is higher. This is a high fire hazard area, use of the firepit or smoking outside must be done with extreme care. Any fires in the firepit and cigarette butts must be fully extinguished and cannot be left unattended. Sometimes during high winds the county prohibits fires. It can get quite windy is this area, so we do not recommend leaving anything outside that could blow away or get knocked over. For this reason no inside furniture or linens can go outside at any time. Outdoor blankets must be taken with you when you go back inside. When it's especially windy power and/or internet can go in and out. Some carriers get service at our house, but the most reliable method is to turn your phone into airplane mode and connect to the wifi. In the Summer: A/C should be turned off or left at 78 when leaving the house for extended periods of time. Door should always be closed when A/C is on.
