Shasta View Campsites are part of a former 30,000 acre ranch that was split up into smaller parcels in the 1970's. It is comprised of 5 to 500 acre parcels. All these parcels are homesteads. There are no commercial or industrial areas on the Ranch. In 2005, I started looking for land in the Shasta area after falling in love with the Mountain and it's surrounding lakes. I have always known exactly what the land I would spend time on would look like.
One day, in 2006, I was driving on the Hammond Ranch, again hoping I would find that place. I was driving my van, with my 2 kids and some of our friends, through a heavily wooded area. I made a left turn down a dusty dirt road and Eureka! I had found IT. I was at the top of a 60 acre meadow that had a full unobstructed view of Mt. Shasta, encircled by lenticular clouds. I told a friend of mine, who was at the time a realtor in the Shasta area, that I had found a piece of land that looks perfect to me. If, that is, it also had a creek on it. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks.
After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around.
If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish.

This is a very unique place. Perched above Humbug Creek with outstanding views, this Shipping Container Cabin is one of a kind. With decks on the roofs and an amazing view, the golden hour doesn't get much better. There is even a Rock Climbing wall. Lots of insane roads and places to explore. Humbug Creek was a famous gold mining valley with lots of lore and mystique. Located very remotely yet only 20 minutes to the I-5 and Yreka. An awesome place to get off the road and spend a few with epic beauty. Amazing for Dirt Biking too!

Weekend Trip to ShastaView
Beautiful land with obviously great views. The treehouse is surrounded by, well . . . trees, with a door and porch looking out onto a meadow. Sitting on the porch with some coffee in the morning was perfect. Much of the road back to the property is flat gravel but the last part is a really rocky, bumpy road. Drive slowly and carefully and reconsider any vehicle with minimal clearance.

This was my second time staying at Shasta View and it is such a special place! Very comfortable, and beautiful spots to camp. It is an extremely short walk to the meadow where the mountain is (1 minute), and it is such an incredible view. Plenty of shade in over 90 degree weather for us. The camp kitchen is well equipped and spacious - we loved the sinks for dishwashing. The stream water was clean, cool and refreshing on hot days as well. Feels like you are pretty removed from civilization but town is only 20 minutes away and it is a maximum of 35 minutes to all main attractions around Shasta. Directions were a bit confusing but we all found it and had a great group trip!

2 nights at Gorgeous Lakeside Lodgings + Sauna
When you walk in you will say “Wow!” This spacious ‘barn’ has been lovingly renovated and decorated for a very comfortable and relaxing get away. The kitchen is fabulous, enjoyed preparing our food. Loved the polished concrete floors on bare feet. Beautiful big bathroom. Fun games, interesting books, a piano! My friend really enjoyed a sauna one evening and big tub soak the next. I was too tired after full days of sun wind and water. Howard Prairie Lake was pretty murky (algae bloom?) when we SUP’d across so decided best to not swim there, but still really enjoyed the quiet lake (literally no one else there except a far away boat), and enjoyed evening and morning walks. Went to Lake of the Woods, 30 min drive, for a nice swim. And we liked going back to our quiet luxurious cabin! We were 3 friends. The big bedroom downstairs is the nicest. The upstairs open plan area would be best for a family with kids, or close friends. Would be a beautiful spot in winter for cross-country skiing. And great place for dogs.

Laurel and Blake were amazing hosts! We'd stay again in a heartbeat. Very accommodating and welcoming. The space was great as well, nice to have some solitude vs staying at a crowded campground.

This is a magical place. You experience the vision that was made for this place . I had a wonderful time and the location wonderful to experience the surrounding area of mount Shasta easily . I cannot wait to return. Highly recommend if you want to experience nature fully— but have the comforts of a safe place to sleep and a full kitchen to enjoy. Gary’s property is just beautiful. The kitchen is fully functional, and a great space next to the creek to gather. The field and view of Shasta where you set up the tents is so peaceful. The cabin is cozy and tucked away a bit from the kitchen for privacy. Gary was a great communicator. Highly recommend!
