Shasta View Campsites are part of a former 30,000 acre ranch that was split up into smaller parcels in the 1970's. It is comprised of 5 to 500 acre parcels. All these parcels are homesteads. There are no commercial or industrial areas on the Ranch. In 2005, I started looking for land in the Shasta area after falling in love with the Mountain and it's surrounding lakes. I have always known exactly what the land I would spend time on would look like. One day, in 2006, I was driving on the Hammond Ranch, again hoping I would find that place. I was driving my van, with my 2 kids and some of our friends, through a heavily wooded area. I made a left turn down a dusty dirt road and Eureka! I had found IT. I was at the top of a 60 acre meadow that had a full unobstructed view of Mt. Shasta, encircled by lenticular clouds. I told a friend of mine, who was at the time a realtor in the Shasta area, that I had found a piece of land that looks perfect to me. If, that is, it also had a creek on it. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks. After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around. If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING IF YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN THE TREEHOUSE. And need I say anything about hiking on Mt. Shasta?

Beautiful land with obviously great views. The treehouse is surrounded by, well . . . trees, with a door and porch looking out onto a meadow. Sitting on the porch with some coffee in the morning was perfect. Much of the road back to the property is flat gravel but the last part is a really rocky, bumpy road. Drive slowly and carefully and reconsider any vehicle with minimal clearance.

This was my second time staying at Shasta View and it is such a special place! Very comfortable, and beautiful spots to camp. It is an extremely short walk to the meadow where the mountain is (1 minute), and it is such an incredible view. Plenty of shade in over 90 degree weather for us. The camp kitchen is well equipped and spacious - we loved the sinks for dishwashing. The stream water was clean, cool and refreshing on hot days as well. Feels like you are pretty removed from civilization but town is only 20 minutes away and it is a maximum of 35 minutes to all main attractions around Shasta. Directions were a bit confusing but we all found it and had a great group trip!

We loved staying at the cabin! It’s super nice, clean and modern and the loft bed was really cool. The bathroom is a half-minute walk from the cabin, super close, clean and updated looking. The cabin was comfortable and the loft serene. We slept like babes and enjoyed the double rainbow in the sky. The outdoor seating area was pleasant and the lighting outside was a nice touch. The compost toilet worked well. My wife liked the bathhouse. We hope to return.

This is such a great stop on the way to SF from Portland! Hands down much more enjoyable and authentic than staying in a cheesy hotel off the interstate. The cabin was very well done with lots of cute touches, an incredible view to enjoy sunset and sunrise, and welcoming dogs on top of it all! Also, the bathhouse might be my favorite hipcamp bathhouse yet. Highly recommend one night or more if you’re staying in Ashland or just stopping on your way through to somewhere else.

Beautiful views. The stars at night were an awesome bonus. Cute little cabin get away with some friendly sheep close by. Just what my little family needed. The cabin was cozy. And thank the Gods for the AC unit. It was a hot stay, but that kept us comfortable. We enjoyed the crickets at night, and heard some coyote near by. Our first morning we were greeted by a sweet doe munching on her breakfast. The outside seating area was a nice place to relax and play some games together. The fire pit is an added bonus for night time relaxing.

This adorable cabin was just what our family needed! Cara has added many thoughtful details, including everything we needed for coffee in the mornings and cold beverages waiting for us in the fridge when we arrived. She had made up the futon as bed before we checked in so that everything was ready for the four of us to stay. The bath house is a short walk from the cabin and is thoughfully detailed. Hipcampers should note that this stay is a little on the rustic side (cabin reached by short path going up hill), but also extremely clean, cute as a button, and the hosts responds within minutes to any question or request.

Gary’s property is just beautiful. The kitchen is fully functional, and a great space next to the creek to gather. The field and view of Shasta where you set up the tents is so peaceful. Howling Acres Ranch was the retreat we needed to start our honeymoon. Cara’s property is tucked in a quaint little town with plenty to do locally, yet preserves a feeling of seclusion with beautiful views. Along with the expected accommodations, there was more than we needed: extra blankets, towels (which we forgot to pack), a single electric burner, a French press, coffee grounds, an electric kettle, and mugs. During the day we found ourselves lounging on the spacious and comfortable futon on the ground level. At night we exited through the sliding glass doors which open up to the outdoor patio area. This space was perfect for an evening outside, as there was a gas fire pit and string lights overhead. Within eyesight of the cabin is the bathroom area, comprised of a compost toilet, a sink, and a shower. The space was clean and well maintained. Cara was friendly and responsive through out our stay. And there was even a friendly dog to greet us when we arrived. The property was easy to find and instructions were clear. All in all we highly recommend booking this spot. Wether you are a traveler looking for a place to lay your head, or a local looking for an evening of glamping, this spot will meet your needs. Our honeymoon wouldn’t have been the same without it.
