Come and stay a weekend or a week and enjoy the simple and breathtaking beauty of the Ouachita National Forest. Located in beautiful Montgomery County, Arkansas; Montgomery County was formed on December 9, 1842, and named for Gen. Richard Montgomery, a hero of the American Revolution. Sixty-three percent of the county is national forest land. We are a short scenic 12 mile drive from Little Missouri Falls, Bard Springs, and Albert Pike with area hiking trails, cascading waterfalls, and beautiful backroads. We are within 10 miles of the Caddo River and local canoe rental. Glenwood is 20 minutes away with gas stations, restaurants, and flea markets. Wegner Crystal Mine is located in Mt Ida, approx 40 minutes from our park. We are within a hour drive of Hot Springs; Bathhouse Row, Garvin Woodland Gardens, Mountain Tower, Crystal Ridge Distillery, Magic Springs, various tourist activities, restaurants and shopping. Mena is located within an hour drive of our park; Blue Zipline, restaurants, shopping. Once a guest's books any of our sites, our Guest Terms and Conditions Waiver will need to be signed/agreed to this can be found on our website and will be sent via guest FIRST welcome email after guest books their site. Waiver must be signed before guest entry is given into our park, no exceptions, due to our insurance constraints! We must receive our signed waiver no less than 7 days prior to your stay with us, which we will not repeatedly ask for, your stay will just be cancelled! We may ask a few questions prior to accepting a booking request at our campground area, these are not ("maybe", "possibly", or generic answer’s that are needed) they are yes, no, and specific’s for your stay with us; if you do not wish to relay this information to us; then we kindly suggest you book your stay in another campground. We are a privately owned park, we reserve the right to cancel a booking at our own discretion at any time; before booking, during booking; or during stay. IMPORTANT River Usage: Southfork of the Caddo River is an extraordinary body of water and considered non-navigable; guest's may FLOAT down the MIDDLE of the creek for fishing, swimming, kayaking but must enter on our property, guest may not step out of the floating device on another person's private creek property and must remain in the floating device; during your stay guest's must stay within our private property creek footage for swimming or wading in the creek, if guest's encounter anyone along the river that does not allow this recreational activity please refer them to us, so we can refer it to the local game and fish department for investigation. It is always useful to carry your video camera with you so there is no he said, she said. We encourage our guest's to use the local lakes (Fancy Hill Lake, Lake Ouachita and Lake Greeson) and USFS streams for fishing and wading including the beautiful Little Missouri Falls. My family and I loved tent camping here! The views were beautiful! We were at site #8, it was very pretty and peaceful. Lots of trees for nice shade and great spot for a hammock. There even happened to be a big event at the overlook one of the days we were there, but there was still enough separation that it wasn’t too loud and we still felt like we had our privacy. The Runestone didn’t disappoint! We thought it was cool. We really enjoyed hiking the trails too.

Watching the sunset at this location was breathtaking! The campsite, restroom, grounds, and gift shop were clean and well maintained. Everyone there was friendly and very informative. We came for an educational event that was fun and well organized. My family loved every moment of our stay from hiking, seeing the runestone, and tent camping!

The campsite was absolutely lovely! The forest felt more like the Black Hills, SD. I had no idea Oklahoma could look like this. It was SO peaceful I could've been 100 miles from civilization, yet Hevener was nestled beautifully in the valley below. Hearing those spooky train horns every hour or so was neat-my boy couldn't get enough! The short hike to the runestone was fun, and that sweet young lady in the gift shop went outta her way for our yard game. What a cozy Oklahoma spot! Terrain was a bit rough and steep and rocky so be advised.

Excellent campsite for our first time visiting the park! The trails were great and easy to navigate, amenities offered worked well, and the host was communicative too. If you plan to stay at this campsite (or probably anywhere in the park), just be mindful there’s a very active train station below the park so you’ll hear it both day & night—earplugs were an essential for me. However, that doesn’t deter my recommendation. The fall leaves were gorgeous, so we picked the perfect weekend to stay.

This campground was nothing short of amazing! The owners were incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful despite us staying during Scary Pines Fall Festival. The said festival gave our group plenty of things to do, but even without that the kayaking and hiking that my group did was amazing. All around this place is amazing and I couldn’t recommend it enough!!

A quaint little park with unique history and the perfect hikes for beginners or those needing an hour to waltz with nature. You're outside of town but not so far away that running back for something you forgot to be a real problem. Campsites are as you would expect, a platform that is just big enough for our large sundome tent (8 person), a firepit and metal grill for each site and a concrete and wood picnic table. They even have shepherd hooks for campers to hang a lantern or lights. The camping area is lit up at night by a string of bulb lights, giving just enough glow to get down to the bathrooms without being a nuisance when trying to sleep. A wonderful setup for a relaxing weekend. My son and I were the only people in the park at one point and it was very peaceful. Crows, woodpeckers, and squirrels abound but not much else in the way of wildlife. A definite for families or someone looking for a quiet place to pitch a tent or hang a hammock.

Wonderful rustic park! First is the runestone, whose conjecture seems entirely plausible and fascinating! Second, the park was developed around 1970 and looks like it’s basically been unchanged. Third, it’s just plain beautiful. The staff are awesome and very responsive. We loved it.

2 nights at Thunder Mountain Private River Camp

A truly delightful place! So many thoughtful details like a porch swing by the river and adutch door on the rustic john so sunrise can be seen from the rustic throne. The privacy and quiet provided by the entire place being our own was grand. I've taken the baths at Hot Springs bathhouses and the outdoor bath at Thunder Mountain way surpassed them. Communication was great. The trails were wonderful. The entire property is well cared for . We heard two kinds of owls, saw hawks, an eagle and kingfishers. Saw three different kinds of lizards. I caught a large mouth bass and saw lots of fish hanging out in the clear waters.

We had a great time here! Tent site 2 had beautiful views of the valley below. The facilities were clean and staff were very friendly. The trails inside the park were a pleasant surprise and more scenic than we expected. The only slight drawback is that there is a train that runs in the valley next to the park and it is active at all hours of the night, so we were woken by train horns a few times. Next time I would bring earplugs.

Heavener Runestone is breathtaking! This is our third time, and not our last! We even golfed at nearby Wolf Mountain, on a very well maintained golf course. Clean bathroom and shower house. We found this campground 4 years ago, and have built it into our travels. Highly recommend!!
