Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Not too long ago, our neighborhood roads were dirt, and there are still several horse ranches in the neighborhood. Phoenix is a close commute, where you will find many more amenities. Rent an off-road vehicle, boat for the lake (or bring yours!), or plan a tour and ENJOY YOUR STAY! We are more than happy to help facilitate your time here. We welcome pets, but do note there are occasional encounters with neighborhood dogs and plenty of wildlife. Aside from being super cool, Roxy and Shawn were very accommodating. The cacti are gorgeous, I had a lovely time spending time at their location. So much that I am going back for the last day of my 2 week journey in AZ before I fly back home to NJ. Highly recommend for a stop after coming in to PHX. Good vibes all around.

I had an amazing time at this campsite! It’s nestled in the woods, surrounded by shady trees, and has plenty of space to set up your tent. I stayed at site 7, which was pretty flat and had soft, easy-to-sink ground for my tent stakes. The sounds from the surrounding area were incredible - I heard a rooster, cows, owls, and a donkey. It felt super secluded, and if you venture into the woods, there’s a pond that’s perfect for taking photos. I made a delicious dinner and enjoyed sitting around the campfire. In the morning, I was greeted by a friendly Hipcamp doggy who hung around for a bit. Overall, it was a lovely place, and the town nearby is close by with restaurants and shops.

I’ve stayed here twice, both times a great experience. Proximity to boththe city and to nature. Flush toilet, sink, and shower are huge bonuses. It’s such a unique and picturesque spot. I felt lucky to find it on HipCamp. Niko is very responsive as well.

We had a lovely stay at Gary and Daren’s! The views were lovely, and there were lots of little nature walks around the area which were peaceful and quaint. The facilities were great! Hot showers, and a nice little common room with cooking facilities, water, towels, dishes, coffee, etc. Gary was very welcoming and accommodating. There’s lots of attention to detail and love invested in this space! We would definitely stay here again!

I can’t say enough good things about our experience at sacred Springs. But before I get to the property, let me tell you about the hosts. We had first planned on going to the property a month ago and had some serious car troubles that made that journey impossible. I’m pretty cynical, so typically anywhere that I’ve paid some amount of money to put a deposit down and circumstances have come up that impacted our ability to get somewhere ,not the place we were going, I usually just consider the deposit given as a loss. Never to be see again. “ thanks for playing, but sorry we have to keep your money because we are uncaring un-empathetic, greedy bastards.” That was not even remotely close to the experience we had BEFORE even making it there. We reached out to inform Gary and Darrell that we would be unable to make it, sadly but would be looking forward to coming in the future. These remarkable gentlemen who were so kind throughout the entire communication process before we even booked, continued this kindness and added empathy and sympathy for our situation. Still emailing and talking to us while we were in the midst of a horrific experience with our vehicle, not near our home and dealing with the costs and every other negative you could have. These two were like a ray of sunshine. Their gracious and sincere words in the emails and their hospitality and generosity is like nothing I’ve seen in years… decades even. They refunded us and offered a complimentary stay.

We had a wonderful camping experience in the cottonwood grove. The site was easy to get to, well laid out with generous space to the other campsites, and quiet. The availability of toilets and water for washing were welcome amenities. I will be staying again on trip back to the area.

22 ft campervan

1 night at Sacred Springs-Private creek access

Beautiful, well-maintained property overlooking I-17. My wife and I only stayed for a short time, but it was great! There was a hot shower and a flush toilet, which was a savior considering that our campervan's toilet wasn't working (don't rent a van from IndieCampers). There were a bunch of other amenities provided as well, and Gary was super nice and welcoming. The ONLY thing I think could be improved is that my tired brain could not figure out which direction to turn the faucet in the shower for hot water, but that was mostly my fault 😁

Weekend Trip to Hawks Hideaway Camping, LLC

We had an amazing time! The whole area was well taken care of and the camp sites were spacious. Little to no noise which made for a peaceful night. Will be coming back!
