In 1977 the government planned to put a four lane toll road through here but was stopped by the oil embargo which caused the right of way to be auctioned. We were able to buy 200 acres for a small amount of money and have been raising cattle and camping on it every since that time. We have two dogs, Boogie - a male and a very large dog, LGD - Livestock Guardian Dog, her name is Maple. Both dogs are very nice and kind. Maple's job is to protect our ducks and chickens from predators. She will bark but she will not hurt you. She will especially love you if you have treats or say 'Hello, Maple!" We will try to have her put away before bookings if enough notice is given. She will not hurt a human, she knows her job and duty on our homestead but she can be nosy as she runs the perimeter of our property often. If you have a fear of dogs or would like to make sure she is put up just send me a message beforehand and I will make sure she is put away secure. She also will not mind other dogs but please make sure if you bring a pet it is kind to other animals and we expect all pets are leashed at all times unless inside your rig.

This was one of my favorite places I have visited so far. The hosts were very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. I am a single, female camper so I was concerned about safety but that was quickly alleviated. I will definitely do that again!

The host was very nice and made us feel welcome. We really enjoyed the campsite and had a blast. The hiking trails off of the site were just challenging enough to make it exciting, but not impossible for people with little experience. I’d highly recommend the zoo near the site. We were at the bobcat tent site and could hear the lions and hyenas at night from our campfire. Highly recommend!

Took my six year-old granddaughter for her first camping trip here and we had so much fun! The animals were, of course, the highlight of our stay, but we also loved the accommodations and safety aspect of staying on Jannas property. 10 out of 10 recommend!

For the group of guys that I camp with, this was our favorite site we’ve been to. Jerry is a phenomenal host. Great to talk to. And so accommodating. He gave my son a bag of homemade popcorn when we arrived. Took us for a ride around the property to show us everything there is. Loved hearing his stories. The site is spacious enough that it feels private. We are already planning our next trip out there!

Perfect little location for some fall trees and a little getaway. The cabin had everything I needed with the extra bonus of the personal hot tub! Instructions about everything in the cabin were very easy to follow. I also appreciated how this one felt a little more secluded than some of the neighbors!

We decided to camp here last minute, and we loved it! The view was great, we were secluded and it felt like we were in our own little place. It was very relaxing, and the owners were very kind to not only us, but my kid too. ( Bonus points for Zed for tricking my fiancé into running to beat his lawnmower 🤣 ) we try to camp at a new location every trip, but we are already planning on being back here! We were the first campers there, and were able to choose our spot! You can also purchase wood and they will bring it to the spot of your choosing!

It was a great time camping at Dark Hollow. Danny met us right when we arrived and showed us around and since we were the first ones there for the day he let us choose the exact site we wanted. Zed was also great and was there whenever we had a question or needed anything. The views were great, the hike to the creek at the bottom was easy, and the add on firewood extra was definitely worth the $15. Would stay at Dark Hollow again!

Amazing time at the location. Very peaceful. We enjoyed the kayaks on the lake. Great option to just get away from the city. We didn’t bring any food; local options were amazing!
