Ruth's Living Dream

10 sites · RVs35 acres · Greenwood Springs, Monroe
Mississippi Art & Wine Gallery is on 20+acres, with a growing vineyard off the beaten path. We have awesome wine, great art, a U drive parking lot. Camp in parking lot or in the woods. Plenty of dry camp space. Quiet neighborhood, with the nearest town 15 minutes. The wine & the quiet are worth the drive. Happy Camping! The property is somewhat of a square with walking trails and rolling hills. We have a nice winery as well as a growing/expanding vineyard. We have the only bunch grape vineyard in Mississippi to my knowledge we also grow blueberries and blackberries. There are lots of flat spots for a camper.

Cob House Homestead

1 site · RV, Tent40 acres · Hamitlon, Marion
Our hectare of land is a genuine Space of Love, acting as a tether between our physical bodies, our ethereal bodies, our ancestors, our descendants, the Earth and God. This land will be our life's work, a culmination of our most intentional efforts to bring health and happiness to our family in perpetuity. We moved our family here from Chicago in 2012 to put roots down on land that has been in the family for over 100 years. We will live here forever. We we were featured on HGTV's "You Live in What?!" as our family of four lived in a bus for 2 years while we became acquainted with the overgrown piece of land . We welcome the collaboration and cooperation of other individuals and families who wish to gain experience in natural, earthen, and sustainable home building and permaculture. Our intention in offering a place for people to stay is to provide a unique experience in natural building techniques and to meet our tribe. Our combined family land is 40 acres, but our official campsite that we are offering is 2.5 acres, with 20 acres of wild, 20yr-growth forest with paths and a 10' deep creek rain runoff ditch which is great for walking down and exploring. This is a fantastic place to look for medicinal herbs as we have many, to include elderberry, boneset, staghorn sumac, pokeweed, mimosa trees, mimosa pudica, tulip poplars, passionflower (Maypop), persimmons, groundcherries, huckleberries, beauty berries, "possum" grapes, muscadine grapes, wild cherry trees, black walnut, honey suckle, Japanese privet, wild lettuce, sassafras trees, plantain, dragon flower, Japaness Angelica trees, and blackberries to name a few. In the Autumn one can forage for bolete mushrooms. Chanterelles grow all summer and puffball mushrooms are found easily most of the year. We also keep bees in a horizontal hive.Learn more about this land:Come alone or with your whole family and gain experience building a home using a very old method of earthen construction; cob. The hands-on cob workshop is optional, of course, but this is clearly our uniqueness. We can get you and your whole group stomping in the mud and building a wall that will stand for generations.Children 11 and under do not count towards the guest count.Enjoy watching the shenanigans of our goats, dogs, cats and chickens as you work and play on our homestead. Children are warmly welcomed and catered to. Our designated campsites will accommodate tents exclusively at this time and are enveloped in semi-wild young forest, on a patch of regularly cleared pasture-like turf. The evenings are filled with a loud orchestra of tree- frogs and crickets, as well as the occasional coyote calls, dog howls, owl songs, and my favorite; Chuck-Wills-Widow call. Up to 6 tents may be set up on this one patch of earth, but we will only book one group or party at a time. Our area of Alabama, and our area of county, in particular, does harbor poison ivy, various snakes, raccoons, fox, armadillos, opossums, and other nocturnal wanderers. We have a total of 6 dogs that help us to feel guarded and secure against wood-boogers and four-legged rascals.  We can give you a grill or there is a fire pit both at your tent site, as well as near our cabin. Your campsite is private, and somewhat secluded, though it is only 500 feet from our cabin. A communal outhouse, constructed of cob- is the designated latrine. The nearest hospital is 15 minutes away, as well as your most common commercial conveniences.

Spring Fed Lake on Coal Fire Creek

1 site · Lodging35 acres · Reform, Pickens
We plan to build a house here in the not too distant future. Enjoy the lake, the hiking and being in nature. We accquired the Scottie camper in 2016 and had an expert in restoration deconstruct it then reconstruct it from the ground up using the same pattern and most of the same interior only modernizing for safety and convenience (who doesn't love a microwave?) It is airtight, won't leak and will serve you well. You will sleep like a baby in "The Beehive." She is 15 feet long and 8 feet tall from the ground and 6.5 feet tall inside.Learn more about this land:Come enjoy our 1967 Scottie renovated vintage camper. Our gorgeous small lake is crystal clear, clean, spring fed brimming with bass, brim, crappie. springs on back side of property. You may fish (catch and release) and keep 1 large fish or several small ones that you intend to cook. (Please bring your own fishing gear and fish cleaning equipment). We provide tabletop charcoal grill. Coal fire creek is on the right side of the dam. Explore and find treasures in nature too! Paint, write, read and just let your soul rest here. Deer and wildlife also abound for possible viewing or photographing (no hunting allowed). No light pollution so enjoy it "when the stars come out." The town of Reform is very close by with BBQ, steak, and vegetable restaurants and antique shops. "The Beehive" has a microwave, electric kettle and French press for coffee, panini maker for eggs and bacon (or use the camping grill), small refrigerator, a/c and thermostat-controlled heater, private HOT outdoor shower. Camper has deep compartments for food, supplies and clothing storage. Bathroom has kitty litter potty with supplies for neat and clean bagging and disposal in supplied Outdoor Garbage Cans. We supply the Kitty Litter! We provide one bag of ice in a yeti type cooler for outside. You provide any ice refills. No refunds for less-than-optimal weather. If you have extra people, you may bring a tent. Only 2-3 will fit in the camper. Up to 5 additional people may stay in their own tent (you bring) for 10.00 per person on any location you wish on the property. If you have a small canoe or watercraft you wish to bring it is ok. A host will meet you at the campsite within a 2 hour window and show you how everything works. All propane has been removed from the inside of the camper for safety, it is all electric. Propane powers the automatic grill if you wish to use this instead of wood for fire. Also propane runs the showers. The host that meets you will show you how everything works. A full tank of propane is provided for your stay but it you run out and want more you must refill in nearby Reform .RULES: No pets, No smoking inside the camper, No use of Illegal hard drugs anywhere on this property, or any illegal activities. The front porch of the camper has a wooden deck overlooking a valley and the horses across the hillside rural road. Another camper is parked adjacent for storage but you will not use this camper. It won't hamper your lovely stay. Rural Alabama has abundant wildlife including insects and snakes, use caution but we have never had a problem. Alabama agricultural law says to use our farm at your own risk as you enjoy the great outdoors. If you would like to request a group camp of more than 6 people (camper plus one tent) please message me and I will make a listing for the number you anticipate. West Alabama is wonderful!
