Heart of the Country is our home and also your own personal twelve acre state park whenever you stay with us! We are less than 15 minutes from Interstate 10 and from Interstate 65. I offer a half-dozen campsites, all either on a relatively level paved driveway or grass. Power (20 amp and 30 amp) and water is available. We have two 30 amp campsites, which are first come, first served. WIFI is available! (please ask for password). We have a portable toilet (portable-potty) for your use. This is a Longleaf Pine sanctuary with lots of nature trails. This is also a hobby farm with livestock (two Donkeys, two Goats and a flock of Chickens). I feed the livestock grain every morning usually between 8 and 9 am, and again hay before dusk. You are always welcome to join me and I'll introduce all of them to you! My dog, Homer, is our very friendly welcoming ambassador who will enthusiastically great you upon your arrival. I put him up in his kennel each evening around dusk, then lock him in his shed until morning which keeps him from barking during the night. We also host three AirBnBs, so other guests may be here as well. Texting via the app is our preferred mode of communication. If you call, please leave a message if I can't answer, and I will call you back. We are slowly updating the site photos. Use them only to determine your price, for example: A site with 30 amp power and water is $25 per night. A site with 20 amp power and water is $20 per night. A boondocking site (no power) is $15 per night. All sites have access to a porta-potty and water. Suggested local attraction: Blakeley State Historic Park is four miles away.

Campsites are approximately 40' x 40' allowing plenty of room for tents, overlanders, car or hammock camping. Extra amenities, depending on availability, at additional cost, such as towels, all natural bug deterrent body wash, all natural bug deterrent laundry detergent, firewood, fire pit, fire starters, bbq grill, etc. Additional options are subject to change and highly recommended to submit request ahead of arrival to help better assist you. Learn more about this land: Setup camp on the banks of Dorsey creek in Bug Tussle. Wooded area with shade in the warm season. Flat ground for tents or plenty of trees for hammocks. Easy access for vehicles directly to the campsite. Fire ring with grill grates present for cowboy cooking. Peaceful with plenty of opportunity to see wildlife. Primitive toilet present. Rock dam in creek is great to entertain kids, old grist mill site couple hundred yards downstream. Logging and ATV present for hiking and wildlife viewing. Deeper sections in creek present for cooling off in warm weather.

Location: 6 minutes from Dollar General 8 minutes from "Union" Public boat ramp on Lake Martin. 39 minutes from Jordan Hare Stadium. Description: The property is 75 feet wide and stretches 210 feet back from the road. Shaded with trees, flat, plenty of room for pitching a tent. The driveway clearing large enough for a car plus camper or RV. I don't have dimensions, but use the pictures of my Jeep for reference. For now, you must decide if your rig will fit. The driveway ground is hard, but there isn't any gravel on the drive yet, so be mindful of parking during rain or soggy conditions. There is a fire ring and a few chairs to enjoy socializing or plenty of trees to hang a hammock and relax. Basically a quiet place to relax, in an undeveloped neighborhood, and pretend you are in a backcountry tent site, 6 minutes from Dollar General :) War Eagle!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a great stay at Field of Dreams at Happy Hooves. Brian was an excellent host and communicated with us throughout the entire process, from booking through our stay. Everything was exactly as expected, and we had absolutely no issues with either the property or the host. The location was also very convenient to Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama, which made it a great home base for our visit. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend Brian and Field of Dreams at Happy Hooves!

We expected a relaxing bay/bayou getaway, and it did not disappoint. The site itself was well-kept and clean, and the atmosphere relaxed us immediately. We also felt very safe in our surroundings. Food, drink and supplies are close by as well. The hosts, Michael and Cindy, were extremely hospitable and friendly...you know you'll have a solid stay when the host greets you and guides you into your spot without having to ask. :-) We can't recommend thus place enough, and we will be repeat visitors. :-)

This campsite is so easy to camp at. Danny has Dark Hollow so well setup, maintained, and organized. The property has everything a tent camper looking for a creek spot to leisurely explore. We tent camped for 2 nights. I have a small car, which allowed me to pull right up to the campsite we chose, named “The Ledge.” We had a fire pit, picnic table, immediate trailhead access, and a view I dream of waking up to always. We spent hours exploring the creek, laying out in the sun, birdwatching, and more. The trails are easy to follow, however, you need hiking boots. I would say the trails we did were easy with moderate-difficult areas depending on how far you decide to go. If you are someone who loves simple outdoor camping, book a few nights at Dark Hollow. There is an outdoor propane powered shower at the top of the campground, an outhouse toward the bottom/middle, a spigot for utility water, and trash cans. There is an option to add on firewood; I didn’t have to haul bundles of it in my tiny car. Oh, man. We had the best time here. I highly suggest Dark Hollow for tent campers who want to explore outside of public parks. Thank you, Danny, for sharing such a special place.

By far one of the best and most memorable places I’ve ever camped! The view is something incredibly beautiful. The trails that lead down to the water are a must. Great for just a solo camping trip or with the whole family. Danny is a wonderful, helpful, and kind host. I highly recommend this spot!

Excellent place, beautiful camp sites. Lots of firewood available. Take a hike down into the hollow... it lives up to its name. Its dark and spooky down in the bottoms following the trails down. There's showers and bathrooms available. It's a quiet place, very secluded and feels safe. We were the only people there that night and still felt very safe. There's a gated entrance that's locked at night so nobody can just wander in. Im looking forward to cooler weather so we can return.
