Waldhaus Resort is a special place surrounded by the Pisgah National Forrest. Pure nature close to a thriving metropolitan area. We offer the Sawmill and the Summit! I have been an engineer, corporate executive and world traveler all my life. Born and raised in Switzerland I speak German, French, English and a little Spanish. My passion is the outdoors, hunting, fishing and cooking . My other calling is to entertain people which share the same passions. That’s why I created the Waldhaus resort. During the past years, the Sawmill has become my favorite place to spend quality time in what I call "Cabin Living" which I love so much. Nearly every day there is a small challenge, nothing comes easy, but all the coziness and comfort is there.  The water is supplied by a spring above the mill. Electricity is generated by solar technology and a generator. All refrigeration and cooking appliances are propane; and so is the basic heat (propane again) - and a very old Jotul wood stove will do the rest. I sleep a lot on the day bed in the living room so the Sawmill can be comfortably rented for up to 4 guests. The outhouse is a thing of the past, just recently I installed a compositing toilet besides the bedroom. We also offer The Summit which is a high elevation, 2-story cabin surrounded by national forest which has evolved into an off-grid living and play space located at nearly 3300 feet elevation on a 1/2 acre flat with an incredible view. There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest.

The Summit Cabin is located at over 3250 feet elevation. It is a 2-story cabin surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. Your car will be located at about 2850 feet. It is hike in / out only. Assistance (going up at the beginning / down down at end of your stay) to bring gear and supplies will be provided at no extra cost. Guests definitely have to be in good physical condition and posses solid outdoor life experience. The water supply (about 55 gallon in the inside tank) is provided by rain. If it’s try I carry it up with my UTV. So water conversion is an absolute must during your stay. The cabin was designed to give shelter while hiking and hunting on my property and in the National Forest, but since has evolved into an off-grid living experience, located on a 1/2 acre flat space. Depending on the season the views are incredible, privacy is absolute. There are old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest. To get to the cabin, it’s a 15 minute uphill and very steep hike. One must have solid mountain hiking gear (especially hiking boots),. Walking sticks and cleats are highly recommended too. It’s important that you arrive before dark to check in. Weather permitting, I will assist with my UTV to help transport supplies to the cabin. Your vehicle(s) be parked near the trailhead at the Sawmill. Note: hunting on or from my land as a base camp is strictly prohibited

We enjoyed our stay at The Summit cabin. Hans is a very gracious and welcoming host. I love the seclusion and privacy that this site offers. It has all of the glamping essentials. We were able to cook a hot meal on the gas cooktop with the provided cookware and utensils. There is a composting toilet, sink and shower as well as hot and cold running water (provided you conserve usage as there is a limited tank supplied by rainwater). The bedroom is upstairs accessed by an outdoor staircase. There is also a futon downstairs. There is a solar power station that has various ports to charge your devices/phone. The rainy weather made staying in July perfectly comfortable without A/C, but there are heaters for cold weather. Be prepared for a climb and bring shoes with traction. Overall a wonderful off grid experience, we plan to come back!

Excellent experience! I loved the cabin, it was a but of a hike to get there but overall where he is located right in the woods next to a wide creek was beautiful. The cabin even has basic amenities making for a comfortable stay. Note-google maps will take you there via the blue ridge parkway but you cannot access there due to a probably permanently closed road. You have to take exit 15 off of 26.
