We are a working cattle ranch, about a 10 minute drive on a gravel road off of HiWay #1. You’re surrounded by wildlife and outdoor activities just as you step out of the door.
We offer lots of privacy. Each site has its own road off the main road so no one else will be driving past your camp. During most of your stay, you will think there’s no one on the ranch but you!
We’re close to a golf course, about 40 minutes to Canmore, one hour to Banff, and 40 minutes to Downtown Calgary. Perfect for day trips for activities other than camping.
Our cows are tame and curious, but not house pets - just be aware. Our sites are not fenced from the cows, so you will have all the sights, smells, and sounds that are associated with cows if they come to visit you. If they bug you too much, message me and I will come over to move them out. I also have a shovel at each site to help clean up cow deposits!
We are not a commercial nor Parks campground, nor do we strive to be. If you are looking for site with garbage service, running water, etc., you won’t find it here.
If you are looking for an off-grid site with a few niceties, tons of privacy, off leash for your pups, and free firewood, you will be happy staying at our ranch!
James's campsite offers a peaceful and private experience, perfect for those looking to disconnect and enjoy nature. The location is praised for its beautiful surroundings, friendly cows, and serene lake, making it a favorite spot for families and groups. Guests appreciate the thoughtful amenities like firewood, water, and clear directions provided by James, who is noted as a responsive and welcoming host. The tranquil atmosphere, coupled with the chance to see the Northern Lights or enjoy a quiet paddle on the lake, makes it a memorable camping destination.
We really enjoyed our stay here over the long weekend. James went beyond my expectations with thorough directions, a map of the land and supplies such as firewood, toilet paper, water, etc. North creek was a beautiful site with lots of open space and places to explore.
This was our second time at James’s land. We had really great time and the place has everything that you need. We all loved the quietness, lots of birds singing.
When we were coming in on Friday, I saw baby cow and goose were playing together. That was one of the most beautiful coexistence living I saw. Cattle did not come back after we reach. My son was missing the cattle’s. I hope we did not disturb their regular routine.
Our group of 6 stayed in the cabin from Oct. 18-20. We absolutely love everything! We had lots of privacy and it felt peaceful to be surrounded by nature. We also enjoyed the lake and made good use of the facilities. James was very accomodating and awesome. Definitely would recommend this place and we hope to be back soon!!
This was our third camping trip to James’s “Cattle Ranch in the Foothills”. We have stayed at both “The Bend” and “North Creek” campsites and both are quite private with beautiful views of the surrounding area including spectacular views of the Northern Lights during our most recent stay. As a working cattle ranch it’s a fun experience when the cattle pass by along with a variety of wildlife.
