Marigold Farm is tucked away in a quiet stretch of farmland, about a 30-minute drive from High River, Okotoks, and Strathmore. We visited at the end of June and experienced overnight temperatures as low as 4°C. I had seen the wood-burning heater in the photos and expected it might be chilly—but the cabin was wonderfully cozy and warm! There are a number of thoughtful touches and amenities that aren’t mentioned in the listing. The cabin is equipped with a toaster oven, a single-burner hot plate, a couple of pots, a kettle, utensils, and dishes—everything we needed for a simple and comfortable stay. While there's no running or potable water on-site, a 5-gallon jug for washing was provided, and to our surprise, there was also a large bottle of drinking water waiting in the fridge—such a kind and thoughtful detail. The surrounding farmland makes for a peaceful, restful night with no noise or light pollution—just calm and quiet. Thank you, Timothy, for creating such a lovely space. We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay!

Amazing glamping experience! They have really put a lot of thought into providing everything you could need! The beds were comfortable and very warm through the night. It was a very relaxing spot right alongside the river and was an easy site to locate and access! The stairs down to the site are a bit steep if you have mobility concerns but otherwise great spot for young and old! Our children loved the site and it made for easy ‘camping’ with little kids! We will be back :)

Ride into history on a wagon pulled by Percheron horses to discover the life of a ranching cowboy from the late 1800s at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site. Try your hand at cowboy skills, learn about the old-style ranching ways, wander through the rustic and authentic buildings or sit around the campfire and listen to old-time tales. Back-dropped by the Rocky mountains – it’s a true Alberta experience!

When to go

The best time to visit Bar U Ranch National Historic Site is during the warmer months when all activities are in full swing. From late spring to early fall, visitors can enjoy the full range of experiences, from wagon rides to historical reenactments. The site is closed during the winter season, so plan your visit between May and September for the best experience.
