Farleigh Camping

30 units · Motorhomes, Tents6 acres · Devon, England
If a chilled-out stay at a laid-back site sounds up your street, make your way to Farleigh Camping in the Devon countryside. With the occasional swallow or skylark gliding overhead and views over Dartmoor (it’s a 15-minute drive for hiking and cycling in the national park), this is a wildlife haven with laidback vibes and a fab lack of traffic noise. And still, the site isn’t too far from the towns, as the busy bohemian centre of Totnes is a 15-minute drive away and Dartmouth is 20 minutes. Great sunsets or clear starry skies could be on the cards come evening time. In the day, head for buckets and spades at one of several beaches, including Bantham beach (25 minutes), Slapton Sands (20 minutes) or Blackpool Sands (20 minutes). There are plenty of friendly faces on site to point you in the direction of other less-visited bays or wild swimming in the River Avon (15 minutes). On site, there are basic but cool and clean facilities including toilets, showers and outdoor dishwashing facilities. There’s also a water point and a small but useful on-site food shop selling essentials such as firewood and eggs from the farm (subject to availability). Pick up what you need, then cosy up for an evening at the communal firepit or with your own barbecue. There is a country pub (The New Inn, Moreleigh) five minutes' walk away and more foodie haunts in Totnes (15 minutes), including cafés, pubs and independent shops. Plus, find riverside pubs where you can watch the paddleboarders glide by in Kingsbridge (15 minutes). Although there's no wifi on site here, most people can get decent 4G/5G mobile phone signal.

Higher Waytown Farm camping

6 units · Motorhomes, Tents13 acres · England
Nestled on the hilltops near Bucks Mills and Clovelly, our 13 acre smallholding-in-progress offers rustic nearly-wild camping in our wildflower hay meadows. Expect to share your space with hares, deer, foxes, owls, songbirds, field voles, bees and butterflies. The views from the fields are a well kept local secret - from your tent look out over Hartland, Lundy island, Saunton, Croyde, Exmoor and Dartmoor, even Pembrokeshire on a very clear day! FACILITIES: In keeping with our low impact approach, the fields are just fields, but with the addition of a shared picnic bench! A flushing toilet, drinking water, charging, WiFi, and info are at the farmhouse. A simple outdoor hot shower is coming soon (must finish building it) and compost loo for the camping field coming by summer. There is surprisingly excellent 4G/5G coverage if important for you. BBQs permitted off the ground and we have fire pits for loan and logs for sale. Dogs welcome under close control - please avoid meadow centres in summer to protect the nesting skylarks. You must also ensure they do NOT chase the wildlife. ACCESS: All fields are easily accessible by 4WD, and main field by 2WD in summer/when dry. If wet we cannot guarantee your vehicle will get up the steep grassy hill. The views are worth the walk though! We're happy to help shuttle gear by truck, or probive a wheelbarrow. Campervans have the emergency option of a level paddock by the road. THE SITE: Nature spot, relax and stargaze across our 4 fields. We recently planted 800 trees for a new woodland, created a wildlife pond, and are establishing a traditional cider orchard. Rose looks after our vegetable garden and usually has some native breed piglets to say hello to. Our apiary is managed by Jon who will happily explain about bees... and sell you a jar of honey for breakfast. We are pleased to now be a South West Coast Path Waymaker, and we welcome walkers. We also welcome drivers and motorcyclists enjoying the Atlantic Highway or South West 660. We like classics and have spanners! Flexible arrival/departure. If we are not around just choose a spot and we'll find you later. We are both keen adventurers and happy to provide tips on things to do and places to visit! Dog-friendly camping in Devon guide

Overview

Known for charming villages, fossil-rich coastlines, and expansive moorlands, Devon provides many pet-friendly camping opportunities in South West England for the whole family. Much of Dartmoor National Park’s moorlands, working farms, and archaeological sites are open to four-legged family members. However, the park requires dogs to stay on lead near livestock, during lambing and nesting season (1 March–31 July) and in warm weather. Campers and their pets can stay in one of the park’s campsites, which typically feature showers, flush toilets, and launderettes. At the southern end of Devon, South Devon Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a hiker’s dream with trails that take campers through farmland, coastlines, estuaries, scenic countrysides, and to notable landmarks like Dartmouth Castle and Compass Cove. South Devon has many dog-friendly beaches, though some do not permit dogs during summer months. Instow Beach, Saunton Sands, and Soar Mill Cove are all lovely beaches to take your pooch, provided you have poo bags in tow. The area’s pet-friendly camping spots provide parks and walks where dogs can run free next to meandering streams for quick cool downs. From Dartmoor to ExeterPlymouth to Torquay, some of the UK's most popular and prettiest towns and cities can be found in this county.
