Dog-friendly camping in Devon

·

Known for charming villages, fossil-rich coastlines, and expansive moorlands, Devon provides many pet-friendly camping opportunities in South West England for the whole family. Much of Dartmoor National Park’s moorlands, working farms, and archaeological sites are open to four-legged family members. However, the park requires dogs to stay on lead near livestock, during lambing and nesting season (1 March–31 July) and in warm weather. Campers and their pets can stay in one of the park’s campsites, which typically feature showers, flush toilets, and launderettes. At the southern end of Devon, South Devon Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a hiker’s dream with trails that take campers through farmland, coastlines, estuaries, scenic countrysides, and to notable landmarks like Dartmouth Castle and Compass Cove. South Devon has many dog-friendly beaches, though some do not permit dogs during summer months. Instow Beach, Saunton Sands, and Soar Mill Cove are all lovely beaches to take your pooch, provided you have poo bags in tow. The area’s pet-friendly camping spots provide parks and walks where dogs can run free next to meandering streams for quick cool downs. From Dartmoor to ExeterPlymouth to Torquay, some of the UK's most popular and prettiest towns and cities can be found in this county.

Set the edge of Exmoor, we have unrivalled coastal views, direct access to the South West Coast Path and Combe Martin bay is just a little walk away (perfect for paddle-boarding and dolphin spotting!). Choose your pitch, settle down by a fire pit and watch the sun set across Combe Martin bay. With pizza’s available on some weekends, breakfast baguettes for breakfast and a selection of farm produce available - we have everything you could need, we are campervan friendly too. With footpaths from the farm in all directions you can join the South West Coast Path or just ramble down to the village where there are shops, cafes and pubs a plenty. With full flushing toilets and hot showers, as well as a washing up area, there is even an old railway carriage with electric plugs to charge your phone or dry your hair, with a fridge and freezer to look after your supper too. We are a small site focusing on that quiet get-away. There is no road noise, just the farmer going about his day job, who’s more than happy to chat about the wildlife, birds and weather!

Little Harford Lower Woodland is set in a property of just over 6 acres. The woodland here at Little Harford is a tranquil place for people wanting to find peace and quiet in a back to nature experience. A small river meanders through the bottom of the lower woodland which can occasionally come up to the top of the bank with lots of rain. A winding path leads down through the woodland to where the land levels out at the water meadow area of the woodland. A family of buzzards live in the valley and you can often hear owls, pheasants and wild birds. A certain degree of fitness is needed as there is no vehicle access and wheelbarrows are available to help move your gear. There is parking at the entrance to the lower woodland on hard standing. A compost toilet is available for all No.2’s and mindful wild peeing is encouraged. Tap water is available from an outside tap at the property for drinking water. There is a washing up area (eco products provided) and a solar-powered gas fired shower. Campfires are allowed and seasoned wood can be purchased at a small extra cost. Nearest village of Tedburn St Mary with a local pub and the village shop is 1 ½ miles away. The nearest town of Crediton is 3 miles away with plenty of supermarkets, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Dartmoor is close by with Fingle Bridge just a 20 minute drive. We only offer a very limited number of camping spots at any time to preserve the tranquility for everyone. BBQs and firepits allowed, dog friendly
