Camping and glamping on a working farm, with yurts, huts with hot tubs, and simple, spacious, sociable camping pitches
For city dwelling campers especially, there are few things that bring the reality of camping home as much as taking a stroll through a dewy early morning field to use a shower block. Pausing to inhale the clear air, still scented with the smoky fragrance of last night’s campfire, while watching the mist rising off the rolling fields, even the most jaded urbanite can’t fail to be stirred.
Westland Farm is the perfect place for such epiphanies: a beautifully tranquil glamping and camping site that looks out over a small lake surrounded by rolling, sheep-dotted hills. There’s a variety of accommodation too, ranging from back-to-basic tent pitches in a lush, grassy field to a brilliant shepherd’s hut set in a quiet corner at the top of the farm. Close to the loos and showers, and nestled next to a babbling brook, the shepherd's hut comes complete with a five-foot double bed and small child bunk bed and airbed (if you need it) – perfect for a family of four. Then there’s the giant yurt that comfortably sleeps six and a hand-built, grass-roofed Drover’s Hut (sleeping a further six and boasting its very own hot-tub), with a kitchen that houses a wood-fired oven and gas hob, set in its own private corner next to the stream. You can even snag a B&B room in the farmhouse if the outdoor life is not for you.
A beautiful spot, and perfect for both a romantic getaway and a family escape from the urban jungle, Westland Farm has a little something for everyone. Basic camper? Home-from-home glamper? Just pick the spot that's right for you.

Can't wait to return
We had such a fantastic trip here. The cabin was immaculate, the views were spectacular and the combination of the hot tub and sauna was such a treat. Loved feeding the pigs and collecting eggs from the hens - it was the perfect weekend.

Shepherds Hut and hot tub
Beautiful views with Hot tub
The Handmade Shepherd Hut is a beautiful countryside escape situated in the perfect location. The hut offers a cozy king-size bed and a cleverly designed bunk for a child, making it versatile for different group sizes. The well-equipped kitchen area, complete with a wood-burning stove, provides all the essentials for a comfortable stay.
The hut's fenced garden has a wood-fired hot tub and a private fire pit, offering a tranquil spot to unwind.
The nearby toilet block is clean, warm, and well-equipped, with extras like an honesty shop and games. The option to set up a tent in the garden adds flexibility for larger families.
Overall, the Handmade Shepherd Hut offers a charming retreat with breathtaking views and thoughtful amenities. It's an ideal choice for those seeking a memorable countryside getaway not too far from the sea!

We will definitely be back
Wonderful camp site, we would recommend it. Quiet and relaxed, exactly as advertised. The shower blocks are amazing and it was so useful to have somewhere warm to dry our clothes and towels. Our kids loved interacting with the animals, especially collecting fresh eggs. Nicky is a great host.

We weren't lucky with the weather but despite this enjoyed our stay. As described camping as it used to be. We even had a field to ourselves due to weather. Everyone at the farm was lovely, piglets were gorgeous and view from main field stunning. Close to main road so can hear traffic but not intrusive as fields drop down below traffic line. The convenience for so many places to visit more than makes up for this. We will be back. Laid back (in a good way) don't need to pay extra for pup tents or gazebos just a fair price per person per night which is hard to find these days. Honesty box for farm produce and eggs is a lovely touch.

Fun times camping with the familly.
We spent a wet couple of days camping but had an absolutely great time. The girls were incredibly excited to see the farm animals and help feed the chickens as well as collect some eggs. Facilities were spot on for camping and really couldn't have asked for a nicer host.

Fab site with great facilities and extremely friendly and welcoming hosts. Nicky went out of her way to make out stay as relaxed as possible. Looking forward to returning.
From the host
We are on the edge of Exmoor National Park and close to some truly spectacular beaches, ancient market towns and country pubs, Westland Farm is a little piece of heaven we wish to share with you. We are a small friendly site, and wish to keep it that way always.
We allow plenty of space for camping and all 3 of our glamping lets have plenty of space and privacy, there are no crowded fields even at the busiest times and some beautiful views of the countryside.
We welcome families who we love to show our animals to, explain how they are kept and welcome help with feeding time. We encourage all children to collect their own fresh eggs for breakfast from our friendly hens.
During the lambing season, which we plan around the Easter Holidays each year, guests are welcome in the lambing shed to watch and even help if they wish, there are often tame lambs to bottle feed and the more hands on types have even helped to bring new lambs into the world.
There are several young people, who first came to stay with their families, who now have an ambition to become farmers themselves, due to having helped in the lambing shed during their holiday here.
Exmoor Zoo (01598 76335) is close by, as is Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (01271 882486). The beautiful towns of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Lynton and Lynemouth all offer plenty to explore.
Food and drink
The Black Venus Inn (01598 763251) in Challacombe, a 5-minute drive away, has superb home-cooked food in nice surroundings. The Old Station Inn (01598 763520) at Blackmoor Gate is also worth a look for its fine home-cooked food and atmospheric surroundings – good kids play area too. The Pyne Arms (01271 850055) at East Down offers locally produced food, some supplied by Westland Farm itself. If you’re looking to self cater, check out Barsntaple’s famous indoor Pannier Market (01271 379084), offering fresh local goods, flowers, crafts and more. There is also a well stocked farm shop just down the road from Westland Farm https://besshillfarmshop.co.uk/ They are happy to take orders over the phone and deliver them here ready for your arrival or when you get home after a long day out.
