Hastingford Fishery Glamping

4 units · Glamping32 acres · Uckfield, England
Searching for a peaceful holiday/short break without kids underfoot? Ramble along to Hastingford Fishery, an adults-only shepherd's hut and fishing site set in a scenic lakeside setting less than five minutes’ drive from the East Sussex village of Hadlow Down and 20 minutes from Royal Tunbridge Wells. This site should suit couples or singles wanting to 'get away from it all' and also fishing fans down to the ground. It’s got several fishing lakes to choose from with lots of different species, so settle down on the banks with rod in hand and while away a few hours (or days) in quiet contemplation, waiting for something to bite. But please note, the site is not for 'competition anglers' although there are plenty of good sized carp around. and asks anyone fishing to only use barbless hooks, and for fish to be returned to the lake quickly after being caught. Not the fishing type? Chill out in and around your secluded hut, or there’s plenty to entertain in a leisurely fashion: paths wind around the lakes and through copses/shaws (as this is the High Weald) plus through the local countryside. There are spectacular views towards the South Downs National Park from the top lakes. A spring-fed lake is also on site to cool off in with some wild swimming. Lots of bird life around, with feeders outside each hut and waterfowl visitors to the lakes. When it comes to eats, pick up or have supplies delivered from supermarkets or takeaways in Uckfield, Heathfield or Crowborough or take a drive to Buxted Park for some posh food or pubs in Blackboys, Crowborough, Ringles Cross, 5 Ash Down, Rotherfield, or Buxted (it'll take about 10 minutes to drive to any of these). Lots of sample menus in huts.

Rutherford's Shepherds hut

1 unit · Glamping1 acre · Reepham, England
Rutherford's shepherds hut sits in a secluded field in the middle of the Norfolk countryside. It is situated on the land of a small holding close to the market town of Reepham. If you like a simple, quiet, break away from it all where all you can hear are the birds, then this is the place for you. Rutherford's is cosily built for two staying. The bed is one of the most comfortable you've ever slept on, and the hut includes all the conveniences you'll need for a short break with sink, fridge and gas hob, the kitchen area all picked out in superb rustic detail. Please note there is no oven. We've got water and energy saving on our minds with the compost loo and there's also a shower, perfect for refreshing after a day's walk or cycle on Mariotts Way, only a stones throw in distance. In the evening, you can relax under the stars with a campfire ( wood supplied) listening to the Tawny owls and enjoy the peace and quiet of the private site. We welcome 1 well-behaved dog (please bear in mind that there is usually live stock in the surrounding fields so dogs must be kept on leads at all times). There is also the option of bringing children (max 2) in a small pup tent. Reepham is 15 minutes walk from the site where you can find everything you need to kit you out for a weekend away. There's also pubs, cafes and takeaways. Please get in touch with any questions.

Farm shepherd's huts in Rendlesham Forest guide

Overview

Back in December 1980, mysterious reports of suspected UFOs put Suffolk’s isolated Rendlesham Forest on the map. Today, this 15-sq-km mixed woodland pairs its historical intrigue with gentle and well-marked walking, cycling and orienteering trails, all within the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB just east of Ipswich. With a cafe, playground and greenery-fringed campsite, it’s ideal for adventuring families, and Suffolk’s coast awaits within a 15-minute drive. The spectacular surrounding country is a vision of meandering estuaries, serene heathland, dense woods, seaside towns and pebbly strands that, over the years, has inspired such artistic greats as Gainsborough and Constable.

Where to go

Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB

Stretching across 440 square kilometres, roughly between Felixstowe and Lowestoft, the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB revolves around a series of superbly scenic east-coast estuaries fringed by shingle beaches, ancient woods and low-lying cliffs. Uncover the famed Algo-Saxon burial mounds at Sutton Hoo, spot wading birds at Orford Ness, catch a ferry around the magical deltas and head out cycling or hiking along the AONB’s miles of trails. Some of the county’s most beautifully positioned campsites are sprinkled around here.

Inland Suffolk

Sweeping west from the coast and inland from Ipswich, Suffolk’s interior unveils timeless villages, ancient mansions, vibrant market towns and wool-era churches. Explore historical Lavenham, architecture-rich Bury St Edmunds, pretty Long Melford and Thomas Gainsborough’s birthplace Sudbury, before setting up camp anywhere from a back-to-basics woodland site to riverside park with kayaks for hire.

Dedham Vale AONB

This 90-square-kilometre wonderland, north of Colchester on the Essex-Suffolk border, is famous for inspiring the work of Romantic English painter John Constable, with its rippling farms, delightful villages, serene woodlands and open meadows. Savour its artistic beauty over a stay in a converted shepherd’s hut, on a farmland campsite or in a glamping bell tent by the river, all with canoeing, paddle-boarding, fishing, cycling and hiking right on the doorstep.

Norfolk Broads

Immediately north of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB, England’s east coast morphs into the vast wetlands of the ethereal Norfolk Broads National Park, known for its rare birds and wandering waterways, which demand in-depth exploration by boat, kayak or footpath.
