Laid-back camping and glamping a stone's throw from Norwich and at the gateway to the Norfolk Broads
A pebble’s throw from a beautiful lake, this is a campsite with traditional and luxury accommodation, plus bundles of outdoor activities, and all just a leisurely stroll from one of England’s prettiest cities – what more could you want? Whitlingham Broad Campsite is a family-orientated place in a county with no shortage of magnificent spots to pitch. Situated on the spacious 80-acre Country Park, this is both a useful gateway to the Broads, and a perfect base for exploring the medieval delights of Norfolk’s county capital. The spacious grass pitches are spread over the upper and lower fields, with a magnificent play area built on the slope in between. You can park up tent-side in the lower field while the upper is a car-free haven meaning there’s plenty of room for a run and a play (pooches are welcome too). There’s also a couple of fully furnished bell tents, a yurt, a shepherd’s huts and a converted railway waggon, plus brand new, luxury tree-house-like structures nestled against the trees, with views over the country park towards the Great Broad. The lure of the Broads is inescapable in this part of the world. With scores of visitors flocking to enjoy the wet and wild delights of Norfolk’s many navigable rivers and waterways, Whitlingham Broad is ideally situated to join in the fun. The park’s award-winning Outdoor Education Centre provides a host of activities including kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. And if you’d rather keep your feet strictly on terra firma there are countless scenic walks and bike rides to enjoy. Why not nip in to Norwich for the day to walk the café-dotted lanes and visit its grand Gothic cathedral?

9 - Bell Tent 3 - HAZEL (Platform and Porch)
Liked the Site, not the Bell Tents!
Lovely campsite, great location and staff friendly and helpful. Facilities were great, clean and tidy, well stocked supplies at reception. Bell Tent was OK. Beds not very comfortable, a bit of a pain that you have to bring your own bedding, and no other furniture, so nothing to keep food off the floor, nowhere to stash your clothes away etc. But the worst part was the ants that kept coming up through the platform, our food was covered most of the time as we had no way of keeping them out. I would use the campsite again, but I would definitely bring my own tent and equipment, the Bell Tents weren't worth the extra cost.

Lower Meadow camping pitch (1 tent or 1 van)
A nice find, family friendly :)
Great facilities, atmosphere and campsite in general. Immaculate toilets and warm showers too. A great option to have firepits and bbq's for hire, and the shop was reasonably priced too. We don't have kids, but it was great to see many children happy with plenty of things to do as well. Fab location, lovely stay. Thank you.

Upper Meadow TENT pitch (vehicle free field)
2 nights of bliss
A very family friendly campsite, nothing was too much hassle and plenty of room for tents, games and camp fires. Lots of thi gs to do on our door step and a lovely but lively atmosphere of an evening, with everyone mingling with each other. Only 2 nights spent here but would rebook in a flash.

Lower Meadow camping pitch (1 tent or 1 van)
Family camping
Friendly welcome, not too busy, nice warm, clean showers, and lots of flat pitches! Quiet apart from the background road noise, and great location for making use of the country park and Norwich. They were also very understanding about our delayed exit on our final day when we had issues with our van. Ours was only a short stay but we will definitely be back.

Upper Meadow TENT pitch (vehicle free field)
Lovely campsite; plenty of space, friendly staff, and very rural considering it’s proximity to Norwich. Fab little play area for kids. Fire pits to hire at a reasonable price. Would happily stay again.

From the host
Simple boutique camping with Norwich on the doorstep and the Broads in the back garden. We are a peaceful site situated within the 80 beautiful acres Whitlingham Country Park. Within a few minutes walk you will be able to hire canoes and kayaks to explore the Broads, enjoy woodland and waterside walks. We have pre-erected accommodations in the form of boutique woodland dens (treehouse accomodation) railway carriages, bell tents and a yurt - or bring along your own tent or campervan.
Nearby attractions
The neighbouring Outdoor Education Centre offers plenty of broad-based aquatic activities including canoeing, dragon boat hire, sailing, windsurfing. The site is right on the Wherryman's Man and national Cycle Route One path. Norwich has attractions galore as well plenty of places to eat and drink.
Food and drink
There’s a café inside the Whitlingham Broad Visitor Centre (01603 617332) and there’s a good vegan restaurant, River Green Café (01603 622448), at the entrance to Whitlingham Lane. Norwich is a treasure trove for small bars and cafés. We particularly recommend Frank’s Bar (01603 618902) for relaxed Mediterranean-accented dining, Wild Thyme (01603 765562) for vegetarian food and St Andrews Brew House (01603 305995) for a pint.
