Weekend Trip to Greenoak Hideout

We had such a lovely stay at Greenoak. The hosts were so friendly and approachable and there were lots of lovely small touches that made the yurts feel homely and comfortable. The log burners and electric blankets meant that we were warm over night and had a really comfortable sleep. We are looking forward to going in the Summer to be able to enjoy more daylight hours. The boys (4 and 7) loved all of the friendly animals and the play equipment on the land, as well as the hot tub! We will definitely book again and would recommend to our friends and family! Thank you for a lovely stay and we look forward to visiting again next year!

Weekend Trip to Greenoak Hideout

The setting was just perfect for our family of five (including two dogs and a 4 year old). The Yurt was comfortable, clean and very cosy. The private shower and toilet facilities were great, as was the hot tub. We had a trip to the local nature reserve during our stay, however think our daughter and the dogs were just as happy in the grounds with lots to explore, very friendly animals and lots of activities including trampoline and climbing walls. The Peacock Shepherds Hut was amazing. The views are incredible and the hut was really comfortable and well thought out from the lovely Peacock details to underfloor heating. The facilities provided everything I needed to enjoy a peaceful break. Fantastic place to relax and reset listening to birds and enjoying the roaming peacocks and wandering down to see the Alpacas. Carol makes you feel so welcome. I will definitely be recommending this place to friends.

Really well laid out site. Quite steep in places with rough ground but fine if you are mobile. Toilet and shower facilities are excellent, as is the wash up area with phone charging facilities and shared fridges. Fantastic base to explore the area, right next to the Thurscross reservoir.

It was our first time camping with our new teardrop camper and we definitely chose the right place! David was so lovely and helped me to reverse it onto the pitch. Due to bad reviews I expected the facilities to be dirty but they were far from it! Very clean and plenty of toilet roll! As for the location, it’s amazing for people who love walking, we had a few hours walk down the canal and I definitely recommend walking across the road to the Riverside cafe for some lunch. Other than that there’s not much to do unless you want to drive into Stafford Centre but perfect for a quiet chilled couple of nights!

We stayed in the Cygnet pod, it was clean, warm and well stocked with cups and coffee/tea. We enjoyed the onsite sauna and complimentary alkaline water then had dinner from the cafe. The pizzas were delicious. Excellent customer service and a lovely bit of the north west to enjoy. 10/10

Where to go

Yorkshire Dales National Park

Malham is located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, one of Yorkshire’s most impressive natural areas. A benefit of camping in Malham is that you can explore some of the most beautiful spots in the whole national park on foot: Janet’s Foss Waterfall, Malham Cove, Malham Tarn, and Gordale Scar. As hiking is one of the highlights of the Yorkshire Dales, Malham is an especially good base.

Nidderdale AONB

East of Malham and connected to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Nidderdale AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is a continuation of the beautiful landscape of moorlands, valleys, flower-covered woodlands, and rolling farmland. Campers staying in or near Malham can visit on day trips for birdwatching, wildlife-spotting, and walking adventures. There are also more camping options around the AONB, especially on farmland.

Forest of Bowland AONB

West of Malham and crossing the border between Yorkshire and Lancashire, the Forest of Bowland AONB is a landscape of moorland and peat bogs, and some pockets of ancient woodlands. People come here to walk and cycle, as well as to shoot grouse between August and December. There are camping and caravan sites around the AONB and while wild camping is not generally permitted, there are some areas where this is sometimes possible.

When to go

Malham is in North Yorkshire, which experiences a generally cool climate, with wind and rain common, especially in the hilly dales. Tent and caravan camping will be most comfortable in the summer. If you’re visiting outside of summer, dress appropriately to enjoy the outdoor attractions and consider opting for a glampsite or cottage in a nearby town or village rather than camping in a tent.
