A small dog-friendly campsite in the Vale of York that's open all year

Simple camping in a farmhouse garden is on offer at Dobella Lane Farm all year round. It’s a six-pitch campsite in the rural flatlands of the Vale of York and is an antidote to both modern life and modern commercial campsites. You won’t find anything fancy or flashy here. And you also won’t be asked to pay for add ons and extras – unless you want to indulge in a jar of jam made from the damsons that grow in your host’s garden. This is good old-fashioned camping for tents, campervans, motorhomes and caravans at a great-value, per pitch price.

The campsite is tucked behind the farmhouse and farm buildings and surrounded by mature trees and hedgerows. It stands out in a landscape of otherwise flat agricultural fields. You can choose from a hard standing pitch near the house or one of the grassy ones among the greenery. Each has electric hook up if you want it. Facilities are simple but sufficient and, importantly, they’re kept clean. For most of the year it’s a single flushing loo and washbasin in an outhouse with an outdoor washing-up sink. In the summer, when this small site is busiest, host Margaret hires a couple of Portable toilets too.

Situated just 45-minutes’ drive from Sheffield, Leeds, Huddersfield, and Hull, Dobella Lane Farm offers an easy weekend escape from the city. And, as it’s not far off the M62, it makes a handy stopover for folk on longer journeys. That conveniently-close road does mean that you will hear the hum of traffic while you’re here and can even watch lorries trundling by – but aside from that road, this is a rural location with all the advantages that brings. You can walk to one of two pubs in the village a mile down the road or you might like to hop in the car to visit the historic market towns of Howden or Snaith. There’s fishing, riverside walks, and watching wildlife – the simple pleasures of the Yorkshire countryside.

Electric Hard Standing Grass Pitch
Met the owner, she was lovely and very welcoming and warm. I stayed on the hard bit with my camper for the night. Its is on a lovely location and easy to find the place. Bare in mind there is only one outhouse toilet and it is clean and you will hear the main road but this isn't too bad just something to be aware of.

Very welcoming host, the separate hard standing area was brilliant, the toilets were spotless.

From the host
Welcome to Dobella Lane Farm. We live on a fully working farm in the heart of East Yorkshire. Our garden site is exactly that, the caravan area is merely an extension on the family garden. We have many wide open spaces, good walks, wildlife areas and natural history features in the surrounding area. Situated in the vale of York we are ideally placed to venture and explore all of Yorkshire - York, Leeds, Sheffield and Hull are all under 45 mins drive away, or simply enjoy the country air and clean living. Maximum 3 adults 4 children per pitch.
Nearby attractions

Dobella Lane Farm Certificated Site is just over a mile from the village of Rawcliffe where there’s a couple of pubs and a shop situated overlooking a large village green. You can enjoy a circular walk or easy cycle on quiet country lanes to get there. From the village, you can enjoy a walk along the banks of the River Aire. The nearby Sugar Mill Ponds (two miles from site) are a nature reserve that has been created on former industrial wasteland and a nice place for a walk or to go fishing. Other places to visit include the small, picturesque town of Snaith (four miles), Goole, a port town on the River Ouse (six miles), and Howden (eight miles away) which offers a lovely town centre with Georgian architecture and the ruins of an impressive 14th-century minster.

Food and drink

The closest place to stock up on supplies for the campsite is in the village of Rawcliffe, just a mile down the road where there’s a village shop and post office. For more than that, head into Snaith where there’s a Co-op and a number of independent shops including a good butchers. Rawcliffe also offers takeaway pizza, fish and chips and Chinese food as well as two pubs. The Green Inn is recommended for food while The Rose and Crown is the pub to head for if you want to sample real ales.
