Family-sized en suite glamping pods in the Peak District

The five-mile walk that starts just beyond the gate of Broadmeadow Farm and runs north through Lathkill Dale to Monyash has long been considered one of the most scenic routes in the entire Peak District National Park. Not only are the views spectacular, but the route also boasts one of the quaintest old English starting points imaginable – the tiny village of Alport on the banks of the river Lathkill. It’s here, edging the collection of limestone-rubble cottages, that Peak Pods is found – a year-round site with an unbeatable location.

The camping meadow in question is raised slightly above the rest of the village surrounded by sheep-grazed fields. It hosts just three wool-insulated glamping pods; crafted from larch wood on the outside with a light, pine interior. Inside there is a built in double bed, en suite shower room and toilet, plus a very well equipped kitchen area that has everything you’ll need, minus the food itself. Not that food’s a problem. There’s an excellent butchers five minutes away in Bakewell, plus the innovative Thornbridge Brewery, whose grains feed Broadmeadow's own herd of cattle.

A small splinter of woodland runs alongside the pods where children get lost each afternoon building their own pods out of branches. It’s a good reminder that, despite the luxuries inside each pod, they still offer a great outdoor experience. Campfires in particular add to the ambience, with wood available from farm owners Mark and Nicola. Both come from families that have farmed this area for centuries and they know it all like the backs of their hands. They’re more than happy to show people around the farm too – with their 400 cattle and 500 sheep, it's a proper working one. Time your stay for springtime and you're likely to see new born gambolling lambs!

Down the road, the village itself doesn’t have a pub but after you’ve pottered around the old bridges and admired the 18th century corn mill, you can continue on to Youlgreave where there are three to make up for it. Along the way you’ll pass through ‘artists corner’, a haunt of painters and poets who can sometimes be found contemplating the gurgling waters of the Lathkill as it flows down a scenic series of waterfalls to meet the River Bradford below. Proof, if ever needed, that there really is picture-perfect scenery on the doorstep of this campsite.

Cosy February stay in Chestnut Pod
Great weekend stay. Lucky to get space, as we booked quite last minute! We loved the Chestnut Pod, which was well heated when we arrived on Friday evening and had everything we needed. Everything was very practical: the shower was good and powerful, we had all the crockery and utensils we needed, and the boot box outside was handy. The location is great. It was 10 minutes into Bakewell for Saturday morning Parkrun, breakfast, and an explore, and then we had a great day walking in Lathkill Dale (recommend a pint with a view in the Lathkil pub in Over Haddon). I'd love to come back in summer to swim in the designated river swimming spot in Youlgrave, which looked dreamy! Nicola texted ahead of time to help us check in and the same before departure to let us know we could stay later if we wanted as there was nobody booked immidiately after us. All very easy and friendly. Thanks for having us!

Highly recommend!
My stay at Willow Pod was a first time glamping experience, but I cannot recommend the service provided by Nicola and her team highly enough. The hosts were rapid in providing any additional needs or supplies, which ensured a stress free getaway and meant I could use my time to effectively enjoy the region, knowing that I could return to the site each evening with all needs sorted. The site itself was very easy to access and situated just 10 minutes from Bakewell, making it a great central location for exploring the Peaks, as well as for stargazing at night. The pod was pristine, well supplied with all essential amenities and was extremely cosy - especially after a long day of exploring caves or climbing the Peaks... particularly if there had been rain! I highly recommend this site to others and would love to return in future.

The pod offered us a welcome, warm and cosy place to chill out and sleep on what turned out to be a very wet weekend. Well located with lots of walking routes to explore direct from the door.

Peaks pods was easy to find and only about 15 mins from bakewell and Matlock, the cabins are warm and quiet, with Bluetooth speakers and all cooking and bedding provided. Will definitely be staying there again, was clean and well presented. The only item I would have liked to improve would be a lamp as the spots are very bright when your settled down for the evening.

Cannot recommend highly enough. The pod was immaculate and nice and toasty warm when we arrived! Nicola was great, giving us lots of info in advance of the best things to do in the local area. We took her advice and they didn’t disappoint! There was tea and coffee in the pod, and some milk too which was a very nice gesture. The setting is beautiful, and tucked away from any major roads so very quiet too

We had 2 wonderful nights at Peak pods in November. No need to worry about the cold as the pod is well insulated and toast warm. Nice touches of proper milk in the fridge and a comprehensive list of kitchen equipment meant we could plan and cater easily. The speakers and Bluetooth made very pleasant evening entertainment. Arrangements to access the pod were clear and we found our way easily with the post code. We did two super walks locally enjoying the Lathkill circuit straight from the door. Would recommend completely and hope to be back ourselves.

These pods are absolutely fabulous! They are in a lovely setting and it's just so quiet. I stayed with my partner and 2 children (9&7) and there was plenty of space for us. We were lucky and had amazing weather so used the BBQ both nights. The pod is very clean and has everything you could need, very well thought out. We would love to book again for the summer but there is no availabilty!

Cannot recommend Peak Pods enough. We arrived on Friday afternoon for my birthday weekend and there are loads of amazing nature walks nearby. The pod was lovely, very spacious, warm, clean and cosy. Far exceeded our expectations. The pods are in a fantastic location only a short walk from many public footpaths and some National Trust areas. There were some maps in the pod to nearby walks which were invaluable as well as a list of nearby amenities, shops and places to visit. Our host Nicola was very helpful and the pods really do have everything you need for a peaceful, relaxing break. We will definitely be visiting and and recommending to friends!

We stayed at Peak Pods over the Bank Holiday, the Pod was so much nicer than we expected. Very clean! The shower is amazing so powerful. The bed and sofa bed were very comfortable. The Pod gets very warm too. The kitchen was enough for what we needed, the fridge is on the small side but was fine for what we needed. The outside was lovely, clean and tidy and the flowers outside the door were a lovely touch. All the Pods were occupied but it was still lovely and quite. We will definitely be staying again. Great value break, hopefully we will have time to visit the farm next time.

This was our second visit and I’m delighted to say the pods are just as lovely as they were in 2016. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped inside and out. A very peaceful location perfect for walking and getting away from it all. Thanks Nicola for another warm welcome.

We loved the pod - cosy but easily spacious enough not to feel cramped (family of 3); well equipped and absolutely spotless. The sofa bed was huge and very comfortable, the layout is very thoughtful and well designed and thoughtful touches like the Uno card game were great. It's a beautiful location - in its own field with 3 other pods and a willow hideaway and separate field with fire pit. We went to gullivers kingdom and tried a couple.of the walks nicola left out (laminated) for us. I cannot recommend the pods more highly and it was even more special after lockdown to have a change of scenery. And what scenery! Lovely to see the working farm in action and hear the cows right next to our pod.

This was our first-time glamping and we had just the best time (2 adults and 2 children). We spent New Year’s Eve in the pod and the children thoroughly enjoyed roasting marshmallows. The whole experience was incredible, the pod is well equipped, spacious but cosy and it had lovely Christmas decorations up. We would definitely recommend the Peak Pods to anyone looking for an amazing experience.

A wonderful setting with stunning views. Add to this a personal touch of magic from the owners. On arrival we was met by Nicola the owner with the keys and the local area was explained. Once in the spotlessly clean pod there was some essentials like team and coffee also a great guide to the local area and some maps for local walks. This is a stunning location ans so peaceful we will definitely be back to stay.

Peak Pods is brilliantly positioned in the country side, a short drive from Bakewell although we had a lovely walk to the next village of Youlgreave our first night there. The local sunbeam ale was good! We had a fantastic stay, the pod had everything we needed for a family holiday & we were even able to buy logs at the farm to have a fire up in the small wooded area behind the pods. Our hosts were really welcoming and helpful, we will certainly be heading back.

Thank you Peak Pods - we had a very relaxing stay, exploring the Peak District - finished each day with a BBQ overlooking the sunset from our Pod! I have already recommended this accommodation to friends. It is in a wonderful location to explore the Peak District - just outside Bakewell and near to Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. The site was very peaceful, and the Pods included everything that we needed for four days away. We will be returning on our next trip up to the visit the Peaks!

A lovely break for first time glampers. We loved everything about the pod. Clean and well equipped and the owners have thought of everything. BBQ outside was super and we certainly used it. We would definitely go back for longer next time. Thank you 🙏🏾
From the host
Broadmeadow Farm is a 460 acre beef and sheep farm, run by Mark and Nicola. Both our families have farmed in the local area for generations. We have a commercial herd of around 500 beef cattle, who graze on the pastures for part of the year. We also have 350 Mule sheep, which start lambing in mid-April. The sheep stay out in the fields for most of the year, just coming inside for a few weeks when they are lambing. There are many footpaths running through the farm, including the Limestone Way. We are happy to show people around the farm whenever possible. Broadmeadow Farm is a working farm, so please do not enter the farmyard without us (the pods are a field away from the farmyard and are not accessed through it). We also have a small 5-van Certified Location caravan site (Caravan & Motorhome Club) on the farm. There is a lawned area in front of the pods to play on, as well as a Willow Dome and an enclosed area of natural woodland to play in behind the pods. The Peak District National Park is famous for its peaks and dales. It offers beautiful countryside to walk and cycle though. There are footpaths leading directly from the site and it is less than half a mile to both Lathkill Dale and Bradford Dale. The Peak District has some excellent family friendly traffic free cycle trails. The Monsal trail, Tissington trail and High Peak trails are all a short distance away. Either bring your own bike or hire one when you're there.
Nearby attractions
Footpaths lead directly from the site into the surrounding Peak District National Park and it is less than half a mile to both the beautiful Lathkill Dale and Bradford Dale. There are also excellent family-friendly, traffic-free cycle trails: the Monsal trail, Tissington trail and High Peak trails a short distance away. Nearby attractions include Chatsworth House (01246 565300; 15 mins by car) – a grand property with expansive gardens (save the whole day for exploring the place, it can't really be done justice in just a couple of hours) and Haddon Hall (01629 812855; 5 mins), a Tudor mansion with it's own gardens vying for your attention. The Heights of Abraham (01629 582365; 20 mins) near Matlock is also worth a visit. The hilltop park is reached via cable car, with cave tours, walking trails, fossil exhibitions and a small café.
Food and drink
Logs, charcoal and marshmallows and skewers are available to buy on site. There's a trio of decent pubs in nearby Youlgreave (1 mile away) which all serve food: The George (01629 636292), The Bulls Head (01629 636307) and The Farmyard Inn (01629 636221).
