Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). Wild Yough property is to your right along the river and there is a great place for lying in the sun, doing some fishing, or just wading into the cool waters of the Yough on a hot summer day.Learn more about this land:The idea is simple- our glamping site will offer a true camping experience without all the hassles and fuss. With 350 acres of private ground, adjacent to thousands of acres of state park and forest, Wild Yough offers plenty of space to spread out, stretch your legs, watch the deer, and howl with the coyotes. You won’t be packed into a row of RV’s or tents where you can hear your neighbor snoring. You won’t have to set up camp in the rain. And you’ll never have to sleep on the ground! You’ll have your own heated hut, warm soft bed, and private space for long evenings around the campfire. My second stay at Brooklyn. Heights. It was rainy so I chose a cabin but there are some nice tent spots on the river. Super clean portapottis and Vincent is around to answer questions or take care of any problems. I particularly like that campers are expected to keep music confined to their campsite, so it's always pretty quiet.

So incredibly peaceful, the cabin was so clean and we slept there the first night because it was cold, but then we ended up pitching our tent and sleeping outside the second night because it was so lovely and quiet. Bathrooms were so clean, we got to see the farm, meet the animals and my son was able to play with the kiddos that live there. Close to Davis, which was a wonderful town, and close to some incredible hiking as well

If I had one last day on earth- my dying wish would be to spend it here. I chose this site for my 51st birthday and the universe aligned with this beautiful place. What a gorgeous, serene, and breathtaking view of the pond, the windmills, the rolling hills, the fuzzy adorable cows and geese. I felt like I was in Abruzzo, Italy the woods and the breeze felt just like it! <3 Amber is so welcoming and fantastic, and the cabin is so cozy and perfect. I only counted sleeps and lost complete track of time, a perfect place to write and paint. I recommend bringing a strong battery light and a shortwave radio. I gazed among an ocean of stars, I forgot how stunning the sky can be without light pollution. Thank you Amber, for hosting a spot where I could truly rest and breathe as a solo traveler, I hope to return every year for my birthday <3 Seriously, any solo travelers considering this idyllic hideaway, you need this and deserve it.

This place is amazing! Not only are you getting great accommodations but you’re getting two great hosts. Larry and Amber are fantastic. We stayed in the Overlook Cabin, two bunk beds with trundle beds underneath, extremely clean and cozy with an assortment of amenities. Water bottles, cups, candles, plenty of blankets and pillows, bug spray and some grilling equipment. Propane heater inside was wonderful! You also have two picnic tables outside, chairs and a propane grill. The outhouse was amazingly clean! 10/10, can’t wait to go back! We had a blast!

Warm, cozy cabin with a unique view—blue blue blue clear lake, moonrise over the ridge line, and a bird’s eye view of windmills! Hosts put in a lot of effort on little comforts, like a rocking chair, hammock, tiki torches, and solar powered lights. Outhouse clean and pleasant. Super comfy bed. You can see the other campsites in the winter but they’re unobtrusive. Wonderful spot!

Currently there are 14 miles of purpose built trails, with plans to install up to 30 miles of natural surface trails that will create access to and feature the natural beauty of the property, which includes open meadows, mature hardwood forests, rock outcroppings, an area of volcanic activity, seven freshwater springs, headwater streams (including Brook Trout habitat), and three distinct knobs. These features provide a rich and unique landscape for a trail system. With so much here, there is no need to leave the property. But if you’d like, we are sandwiched between the Monongahela and George Washington National Forests. An outdoor enthusiasts dream.
