Malcolm island has wonderful hiking trails and whale watching hot spots.

Rauhala Heritage Farm is a privately owned farm on the outskirts of the town of Sointula, on Malcolm Island, B.C.
Rauhala is surrounded by a 100 acre forest with our own private bay with fields, a creek and a beach campsite area there you can look out at the mountains of Northern Vancouver Island, where you may get to see some whales.
Bring your own water. Pack-in/Pack-out garbage.
You get to set up camp on our beach campsite, which overlooks the ocean and mountains.
There are many hiking trails on our property where you can view some giant old growth trees.
Rauhala is a heritage site and I do offer eco-heritage tours of the property. Rauhala means Place of Peace in the Finnish language and dates back to the early Finnish settlement of Sointula.

Sayward has such a variety of outdoor gems to explore. Fishing, kayaking, hiking, exploring waterfalls, lakes and river oasis’s. You are truly immersed in nature no matter which direction you choose. Having your base here you come back at the end of your day still immersed in the beauty of the surrounding land.
We do have a ton of wildlife so please be aware of this. Elk are frequent visitors (and not fans of dogs). Cougar, wolves and bear have also been around these parts for centuries and still continue to visit. Please contain garbage to decrease chances of human/wildlife conflict.

Unique floating cabins, one cabin sleeps 4, the other 6 people. Everything you need for a few nights away is here. These cabins are boat-access only. We have had guests come from Telegraph Cove by kayak. They were happy for the hot running water when they got here. The kitchens are fully equipped with all the staples you will need; just bring your food.
One cabin has a bedroom with a queen bed, and the living area has a double bunk bed in the bottom and a single on the top. There is also a pull-out sofa. The studio cabin has a queen bed and a set of single bunk beds in the same room. The seafood is just waiting for you to catch it! The cleaning station is ready for use! Mother Water Campground is located on Northern Quadra Island, and our campsite is on a nice open clearing over looking a wetland. It's a short walk away from the small parking spot on the road. Walk across a pedestrian bridge over a creek and into the open sky area fringing the wilderness. It gets a lot of sun in the evenings and is home to lots of wildlife. There is room for 3 or4 tents in the area. There is a compost toilet outhouse. It is a short walk to the government dock and Granite Bay and right by the Newton lake trail head. This spot is great for sun and stargazing, forest bathing and cooling off in the creek. It's a salmon bearing creek, every October they swim up it to spawn. It's a pretty special place far away from civilization. There is no cell service, or electricity and creek water should be treated before drinking. There is a spot for a hammock in the grove in the amongst the forest edge. And please feel free to explore the forests & trails on the property, as long as you are respectful to the site, and politely respect and do not intrude upon our private residential areas, unless invited, thank you.

3 bed Cabin built on a bluff among the maples. Cabin includes 3 double beds. One is a private room and two up in the loft.
Boat access only! Sonora island does not have a ferry. We are currently only accepting booking from folks who have access to a private boat. Once on the island it is a 3-4km walk down the main road (which is usually muddy if there was recent rain) to the cabin.
No service and no wifi. Make sure you arrange your pick up before being dropped off.
Guests need to be fit to hike up to the cabin.
This is a unique fully remote and off grid escape that is not for everyone! Please reach out if you have any questions!
Pack in your own bedding/ sleeping bags. 5 minute walk to our private gravel beach over looking the ‘Hole in the Wall’ rapids. Our water reservoir that collects from a near by creek, feeds the house. Boiling before drinking advised. Also included in the cabin is two wood stoves, Propane stove for cooking, hot water on demand and solar power make this get away completely off the grid.

Tucked beneath towering cedar and fir trees, Heron Grove is an exceptionally spacious and private RV campsite on beautiful Quadra Island. With room for two RVs plus additional tents, it’s a great choice for couples travelling together, families, or small groups looking for their own peaceful piece of the island rather than a traditional crowded campground.
The property sits beside a long-established Great Blue Heron rookery, and depending on the season you may hear or see herons returning overhead. Woodpeckers, ravens, chickadees and other coastal forest birds are regular visitors, while lush ferns, moss and mature trees surround the campsite.
There’s plenty of room to spread out, set up outdoor chairs, cook outside, let the kids play, or simply enjoy the forest. The site is well removed from road noise and offers a quiet, partially shaded setting that stays pleasantly cool during the summer.

Explore Quadra Island
Heron Grove makes a peaceful home base for exploring the beaches, lakes, hiking trails and small communities of Quadra Island.
A favourite nearby outing is Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park, with beautiful beaches, walking trails, sheltered water, picnic areas and views across Drew Harbour. It's a great spot for swimming, paddling, beachcombing or spending an afternoon by the water.
For a more wilderness-style adventure, head to Main Lake Provincial Park, where you can explore Quadra Island's freshwater lakes, forest and quieter interior.
We also have two canoes available to rent for your stay, so you can get out and explore some of Quadra Island's beautiful lakes and sheltered waterways. Paddles are included; guests will need to bring their own properly fitted PFDs/lifejackets.
Hikers can also explore the Morte Lake Trail, Kay Dubois Trail and the many other forest and shoreline trails around the island.
Food & Local Stops
You don't have to cook every meal at camp. Quadra Island has a great collection of small cafés, restaurants and seasonal food spots.
In Heriot Bay you'll find waterfront dining and casual options, while the Quathiaski Cove area has cafés, seafood, pizza and other local favourites. It's easy to spend the day exploring the island, stop somewhere for lunch or dinner, and return to your own quiet forest campsite in the evening.
A Different Kind of RV Site
Heron Grove is best suited to travellers who appreciate privacy, space and nature. Instead of parking beside a row of other RVs, you'll have a large forested site where your group can settle in together and enjoy the slower pace of island life.
Bring your RV, bring another family, pitch a few tents, rent a canoe and use Heron Grove as your private base for exploring Quadra Island and the Discovery Islands.

This cabin is located on a remote island and is only accessible by water taxi, private boat, float plane charter, kayak or canoe. The water taxi runs Monday, Wednesday, Friday in the summer months and costs $140 per adult one way. It is not unusual to see whales and other wildlife on the journey to Read Island on this boat trip! The tiny home features a queen bed in the loft, twin bed downstairs, outdoor hot shower, full kitchen with bar fridge and propane range. A sauna (if fires permitted) composting toilets and outdoor showers are available.
Use the tiny home deck to gather and eat under the sun and stars. Relax in the comfy patio furniture or chill out in a shady hammock. Campfires are allowed in the fire pit when permitted.

Our host, Alex was not only responsive, but knows how to connect with her guests. She asked questions about our interests and pointed out things in the area we might enjoy, and they were exactly what we were looking for! The high point of our trip was a half-day wildlife tour through SS Funships, which was unbelievable and a great way to enjoy this beautiful part of Vancouver Island. Throughout our trip if we reached out with questions, she was incredibly responsive! At the site we enjoyed star gazing, watching the sunrise a short walk away, and listening to the Owls she told us about every morning around 4:30 or 5:00.

It was a cute little campsite with lots of unexpected extras. A hammock, a covered platform we used to lounge on. Ready buckets of water for use. Composting toilet with wood shavings. By far 100x better than a standard pit toilet you find in provincial parks and everywhere.
Woodsy and peaceful clearing. Feels remote but not far from houses, tho you can’t see or hear them. We were sadly only able to stay for one night as we were on our way again the next day.
The stream is a delight. We watched many salmon fry of various different sizes and fed them leftover dampened cat food in their stream by the driftwood bridge as well as the road bridge ahead.
Anyone afraid of the directions or travelling on the logging road, the instructions are great, just be sure to follow them and not your google map. Google offers a route in what looks like a better road at first, but it’s only going to take you to a few lakes (which are beautiful for swimming) if you don’t turn on the road they suggest and you will lose cell/ map connection and need to turn around and come back. So do read their instructions and their warning about losing cell service. The roads are well maintained. The markings are as stated. Ample space for play and relaxation.
The host is lovely! The site is lovely. We would definitely come back again if we head that way. Please don’t be afraid of the distance from South Island. It’s a great spot. Go enjoy!

My dog and I stayed in Campsite one. The host was incredibly nice and showed us around his amazing property. I got to feed the ducks, play with the kittens, get grounded in a beautiful garden, eat fresh figs and pick apples in the orchard! Exactly what I needed to recharge for a few days. Undoubtedly worth the $40 round trip ferry ride. There is however a rooster who was surprisingly nice but definitely had something to say before the sunrise ;) would definitely go back!

This hipcamp is a little expensive, but the setting and experience are worth the splurge. Your own private shoreline and campsite, complete quiet punctuated only by the sounds of whale blows and the occasional fishing boat. There seemed to be a near constant stream of humpbacks, we also saw a pod of dolphins, orcas, harbor seals, sea birds, eagles… don’t forget your binoculars! We stayed in both the field and beach campsites and were pleased with both.

Nahum’s camp was enchanting. We walked to the beach and saw humpbacks breaching close to shore, walked with newborn ducklings and their mother back to the farm yard from her hidden nest in the tree roots by our camp, walked the gardens and orchard with Nahum. He helped us put up our tent and brought us a vase of garden flowers.

It’s a little bit of a walk to the water, down/up a hill, so maybe consider bringing a wagon if you plan on carrying lots down to the beach.

Nahum has such a cool spot! Stayed in the cabin overnight and enjoyed having the stove to warm up and dry out between long walks on the beach. Spotted jumping salmon, humpbacks feeding super close to shore, and borrowed the canoe for a quick paddle over the kelp forests. Would highly recommend this guy was such a wonderful host.

The site was large, sheltered from the sun and equipped with both seating and a worktop. The next nearest campsite is just across the driveway, screened by trees. A short walk to the waterfront. Nahum was a wonderfully welcoming host, carrying water to us and even installing a zip line for our puppy so she wouldn't get into trouble with the farm animals.
