Come and explore the glamping " Portal" style. We offer a unique experience just steps away from beautiful Sproat Lake. This is a retreat-type space and is specifically set up to help you get away from your busy life. There are books, games, hummingbirds, deer, and all that nature has to offer including the Lake, a stone's throw away for a quick dip to rejuvenate the mind and body.
The Portal is 18 feet long and 8 feet wide and is your very own private space. Featuring a beautiful deck for relaxation, reading, star gazing, yoga, or alfresco dining, with the interior offering a queen bed, sofa small table and two chairs. Oh so cozy and romantic. There is a fancy outhouse that flushes water and is equipped with a sink. This space is best suited for a single, a couple, and possibly a fur baby and/or little one.
We are located on a quiet residential street 20 minutes from Port Alberni and en route to Tofino or Ucluelet. We have walking and mountain biking trails minutes from the house.
If you are bringing a fur baby, please let us know. It must be on a leash at all times. Please bring your fur baby's favourite blanket or bed to sleep on. We kindly ask that you keep your fur baby off the furniture and bed, and that you please not leave your pet unattended.
The Portal has internet and spotty cell service. There is an outlet for charging, etc. Parking is on-site. Local food options include the "The Fish & Duck Pub" which is just a short walk away. Call Doordash to deliver a meal from one of our local restaurants, such as Sproat Lake Landing, or bring a picnic to enjoy.
Canoe $40.00 per day $200 deposit.
Please bring your own PFD and any personal protective gear you may require.

We supply plates, cutlery, etc. please bring your own pots pans.

Enjoy a quiet, rural property with no streetlights and only local traffic. On weekends, you may occasionally hear local kids riding their dirt bikes on the road—it's part of country living.
There is a dog kennel next door, but it is approximately 200 meters away.
The deck and RV are private, but we're nearby if you need anything, as shown in the photos.
The unit is a 36-foot luxury fifth wheel with four slide-outs and skylights over one of the slide-outs.
It is fully furnished, and you're welcome to explore the property while being respectful of the other homes on-site. A corner store is about a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk away. We are centrally located between Nanaimo, Port Alberni, and Qualicum Beach, and Coombs is just a 3-minute drive away.
You'll likely see us around the property, as we're always working on improvements and upgrades.
We also have one dog and two cats. The cats are our welcoming committee and may stop by to say hello!

This is such a beautiful spot. We really appreciated how well the RV was equipped and how clean it is. The picnic table outside and the hammock were lovely bonuses, along with the horses close by. And the composting outhouse is immaculate and has no odor. Heather was a great host and easy to communicate with, plus she gave us great advice on nearby swimming spots. Thanks Heather!

Weekend Trip to Portal Retreat
Perfect stay for the two nights that I needed it for. Andrew was very responsive to my messages and very helpful when I had questions.
I slept great in the comfortable queen size bed and enjoyed the peace of the forest and the forest views from the deck, as well as large windows from inside the portal.
A quick walk brought me to the dock and swimming area. I watched the sunset and a boat race while I was there. Definitely a great place to swim, if wanted. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely spot! We enjoyed staying in the fully restored vintage trailer. Our site felt private and safe. It was a great spot to escape to from the city and was close to all of the local beaches and parks in the area. I loved my stay at the portal! So close to the lake, perfect for a morning swim - close to town to get groceries/food, on a very quiet road (probably one of the best sleeps I’ve had in a long time). Host was kind and helpful! Would recommend for a couple or a solitary stay (would be a great place to use as a writing retreat, I will have to book again!)

We had the most wonderful time at the Rad Shack. Such a cute place which has clearly been made with a lot of love. Madeline was a very responsive host and we enjoyed the guide book inside of the nearby area. It is very remote and private, with its own trail down to a completely quiet beach which is fantastic for a sunset. Outdoor shower is very fun!

Vanagon drives the Youbou Route to Pachena Bay!
Amazing place!!! Worth getting to but it’s a haul especially when the road from Port Alberni is closed to Bamfield and you have to take the Youbou route which is terrible around the Lake Cowichan. It gets better away from the lake and then once you connect to Bamfield Rd it’s fine it’s chipseal so basically a highway.
The Pachena Bay Beach and Bay Area is gorgeous and serene. Definitely will be back!
