This beautiful spot was re-forested with pine a number of years ago, and was sectioned off from the surrounding farmland, which is now maintained by the mennonite community.
It is 8 1/2 acres of wetland and forest, with a mown perimeter, and cool places to tuck into the forest for the night.
The current owner was a special educator, and now is slowly turning the land into her homestead.
There is a beautiful, spa quality outdoor shower next to a tidy and 'fancier than most' outhouse, a strawberry patch as well as wild alpine strawberries all over the property, a big dog and a small indoor cat keep her company.
Here is what the land offers:
-Bunkie in the Forest: A sweet 8x8 ft. space with new bunk and mattresses as of April 2023
-Strawberry Fields bunkie: an 10x12 space with a loft with a queen memory foam mattress and a main floor with a full futon and a small table
-Campsites: Meadow, Forest and River spots. Close to each other, but you'd never know it! All three are chill and serene places. The property backs onto a ten-foot swimming hole in an otherwise shallow part of the Saugeen River.

Our site is within 3 minutes of paddling the Big Creek, 3 to 10 minutes to several A+ hiking trails, 15 minutes to amazing freshwater beaches of Long Point and Turkey Point, and the area is abound with cycling trails, motorcycle routes, geocaching, boat launches (we have room here for your boat!), cider/wine tours, and more! We are the perfect basecamp for everything the Long Point Bay area has to offer
We have some great watering holes nearby like burning kiln winery, hounds of Erie and Charlotteville brewing company.

Blankets are provided but please bring your own bedding (sleeping bags encouraged during colder months). The room also includes a mini fridge, diesel heater . There is a lovely wooden swing to relax on that also includes a propane BBQ for your use with cooking utensils. There is also a fire pit with a grill and a beautiful wooden outhouse just steps away from the cabin. Welcome to The Sanctuary. I purchased this property in 2022 and am excited to share a piece of Canadian history with guests.
This site is home to one of the oldest churches in Canada, erected in 1860 as a Wesleyan Methodist church. The congregation was known for its “methodical” devotion to prayer and social justice, including support of the Underground Railroad. They were also famously teetotalers (no alcohol), and the church likely served as a local hub for the Temperance movement in 1800s Oxford Centre. In 1925, it joined the United Church of Canada, and the congregation eventually folded in 2021.
There are still occasional church services held on the property, so if you are staying, please be respectful. Guests are welcome to attend services when available. Please note that I am the property owner and have no formal affiliation with the church other than being the landlord.
There is a decommissioned graveyard on site, with the last burial taking place in 1921. Please respect those laid to rest here.
In 1970, an F4 tornado passed through Oxford County, approximately 1 km wide, and destroyed much of the surrounding area—except this church. The roof was lost during the storm, but the original stained glass survived. The tornado destroyed around 30 homes, and the nearby Anglican church was later rebuilt across the street. Some grave markers were displaced into surrounding fields, and recovered pieces were returned and placed in a corner section of the graveyard. Rest in peace.
Behind the church is a designated camping area for tents. Please respect the graveyard and do not set up camp beyond the church building. You are welcome to pay your respects, but no disrespectful or harmful activity is permitted on this part of the land.

There is firewood on property to purchase. We have a convenience station to wash dishes. Potable water and ice to purchase. We are setting up to have outdoor showers but they are not ready until June.
The newest addition to the property are two goats that think they are dogs and will greet you.

Heavens Acres has been a stop over since the 1850's for people travelling by horse from Toronto to Owen Sound.
We have 100 acres surrounded by another 200 acres of conservation land.
There is camping in the pine forest as well at the very back of the property where you will find a hardwood bush with trails.
Please note that the hipcamp map shows a large body of water on the property, as does google driving maps.
It is a marsh, not a lake.

There is however, a creek and pond, but don't bring your boat. :)
This is a "LEAVE NO TRACE" campsite, so please take all garbage when you leave.
There is no water or power, but there is an outhouse

This is required for snow removal to access the sites that are at at least 1 km into the bush.
We are in a snow belt area and it is very difficult to keep the sites open in the winter.

There are four acres of woods to explore right beside Townsend Lake, a small, quiet lake perfect for canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The lake warms up quickly in the spring and is great to swim in. There is a cabin to sleep in and many camping items are provided, like a Coleman stove, tables, dishes, and a screen shelter.
You will have access to the dock and a large fire pit area which are part of the owner’s cottage on the property. There will be a port-a-potty on site.
Lake Townsend is close to several conservation areas and 12 minutes to the quaint town of Markdale with several shops, a bakery, and a large grocery store.
The city of Owen Sound is 35 minutes away. Harrison Park and Inglis Falls are huge attractions in the area. Each area has its own beauty and the hiking path between the two is quite spectacular.
Parts of the famous hiking trail, The Bruce Trail, are also easily accessible from Townsend Lake.
But once you get settled in, you may just want to rest and relax at the lake! It has its own beauty and serenity and is home to many bird species and other wildlife.
Cedar Acres is the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature.

We purchased this farm in 1998 from the previous farmer who had owned it since 1929. The train line ran right by the gate where the Kota hut now sits and would drop cattle right there to be finished and sold later at the Toronto Stockyards. Our barn was built in 1890 with the old farmhouse located across the creek. Two creeks meet the Grand River on our farm. The bunkie is situated north of the barn and faces Willow creek. During the summer the creek gets quite shallow but there are a couple of pools that work nicely for a float with our river tubes. The river also has a small swimming hole. The bunkie is nestled between 2 hills which creates a natural little valley. Campers can take a walk around the property or use the nearby long walking trail. New this spring, campers will be able to enjoy the firewood sauna, located close to the bunkie and nestled in a private spot near the creek.

The host Rick is outstanding with communication. The bunkie was awesome. Nice little woodstove. The plane was quite cute, but I didn’t use it. Chose to shut the phones off for two days and just reflect. It was a perfect location. Highly recommended as it’s 1 km off the road.

We had such a wonderful time staying at the cabin. From the moment we arrived, we felt very welcomed, and that really meant a lot to us.
The place was cozy, quiet, and exactly what we needed. We especially loved how private it was—it really felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. It gave us the chance to slow down, relax, and just enjoy being together as a family.

We had an amazing experience at this cabin with my friends. Everything was very clean and well taken care of. One of our favourite parts was the large gazebo , even when it rained, we were able to sit comfortably underneath and enjoy our breakfast without any issues.
The location was also very easy to find, with clear and straightforward directions. Honestly, if I ever plan another camping trip or want a cozy cabin getaway, I would most likely choose this place again.Another thing that really stood out for us was the privacy. We didn’t see any cars or people around at all, which gave the place a true “deep in the forest” vibe. It was peaceful, quiet, and exactly what we were looking for.

Weekend Trip to Private Geodome: Lake Erie Views
Abraham was an awesome host. Genuinely nice and very accommodating. He explained things very well and made recommendations to make our stay more enjoyable.
The dome was actually really warm with the wood stove going. I was surprised. With it hovering around zero at night I was afraid we’d be struggling to keep it at a warm temperature. Most of the night it was the opposite actually. The forest and view of the lake is beautiful. Great for a walk and sitting outside. Peaceful and quiet. The domes are spaced pretty far apart too so everyone has a feeling of privacy. It’s especially great because there isn’t a lot of these kinds accommodations around this part of Ontario. Glad it’s here.
We will for sure be going back.

2 nights at White Pines Cabin Retreat
We had an amazing stay at this campsite. The view was absolutely beautiful, and the constant sound of the flowing creek was incredibly soothing and calming. It really made the whole experience special.
All the essentials were provided, including a BBQ, heater, drinkable water, lamps, and plates, even bedding, though we were advised to bring our own. We ended up using our own bedding, but it was great to have everything available.
The hosts were fantastic, very welcoming, helpful, and easy to talk to. They even came by to meet us, which added a really personal touch to our stay.
Overall, it was the perfect combination of nature and a relaxing getaway. A great place to sit back, unwind, and truly enjoy the surroundings.

This was the perfect little get away. We stopped on a weekend trip to towards Tobermory. The cabin is so cute and surrounded by quiet nature. It is very close to nearby towns so you can pop out easily. Host was very accommodating and responsive if any questions pop up. 1000% would go again for a nice little stop.

Weekend Trip to White Pines Cabin Retreat
We had such a good time, it is a perfect place to disconnect and enjoy life. Gillian and her husband were so nice and friendly.
All needed items like blankets, cooking supplies, potable water and more were available.

It was a short but sweet trip! Gillian and Jim are great hosts! The cabin is awesomely complete with lots of fun ready for family to use and enjoy! We are definitely going back this summer! We got a bit lost but it was our fault. We thought we are in Markdale but we were in Durham and so we misinterpreted the direction. Lol. But nevertheless, it was one of the fun part of adventure!

We had a lovely time. The area was quiet and the tiny home is adorable.
I think they should have provided a paddle to stir the hot tub. It doesn’t really heat evenly. Your upper body can be toasty and feet cold. It takes a long time to heat up too. The sauna worked very well.
If you have any mobility issues, you may have a hard time getting up to the bed. The steps are small, steep and no railing. Be careful, and go up and down on your bum
Overall, It was a quiet, peaceful and romantic getaway. We were delighted to see some deer frolicking in the woods in the wee hours of the morning, plus many smaller critters. Perfect romantic getaway.

Common sense goes along way here at the plane cabin...
Brand new beautiful tiny house cabin with a plane surrounded by majestic trees and trails around the property. If the nights are cold you will need small pieces of wood for the stove. Bring your own blankets & pillows. As well as anything needed for cooking. We had a peaceful time during our stay.. although a cold 2 nights over March break.. it was a memory maker. Host was great and kept in contact. Would recommend to adults who can appreciate nature and surroundings.

This was my first hipcamp experience and I hate gotta say, it was amazing. Our host was super cool, he let us do our thing and if felt like we just had our own private gorgeous forest. The Plane is epic, the story of it is amazing, you can go watch a video I made about the history of the plane on YouTube, link below. This place really blew us away and we will certainly be going back. We even extended our stay an extra day.
It's peaceful, you can hear coyotes at night, and there's tons of room to explore. Definitely recommend for anyone, I brought my two kids, husband and my dog and the first night me, my 5 year old and my dog slept in the plane, it was awesome. Don't miss it on this place, it's so cool and so worth checking out. The Bunkie, no matter what season, is NOT COLD. Once you get that fire going in there, you gotta sleep with the windows open in February. It's that warm and nice.

Our stay at the Forest View glamping dome was an incredible experience. The location is surrounded by beautiful forest and nature, making it the perfect place to relax and disconnect from the busy city life. The dome itself was very clean, cozy, and well designed with comfortable beds and modern amenities.
One of the highlights was the outdoor area with the trail to Lake Erie, fire pit and overlooking the trees. At night, the sky was perfect for stargazing and the peaceful atmosphere made it even more special which made the stay comfortable while still feeling close to nature.
The host was very helpful and communication was smooth from booking to check-out. Overall, it was a unique glamping experience that combines camping with comfort. I would definitely recommend it for couples, friends, or anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in nature.

3 nights at Cozy Forest Dome
Winter camping in the cozy forest dome was 100 percent perfect. Fran is super welcome and accommodating my extra chair request, wood for the stove when needed... The dome is thoughtfully planted amongst the trees and situated as to watch the sun or moon rise in just the right spot from the comfort of a most comfortable bed. I really appreciated getting to use the wood stove. It worked really well and was east to control the temps. My favorite part other the shower was just sitting in quiet and peaceful calm looking out the window... like a cat...at the trees. Thank you so much Fran. Greatly appreciated. H

Beautiful cabin on some Beautiful land. Exactly what we were looking for. Everything is exactly as stated. Natalie was quick to respond to questions and very helpful. My daughter and I loved our time at the cabin.
