The site is 35 min. from Algonquin Park and 11 km from MKC, the world-famous white water paddling centre. 10x10 main floor with sleeping loft. Solar power provides lighting & a propane furnace for cool nights. Solar lights outside provide ambient lighting-may be turned off if preferred. The call of the loons & the barred owl will be your lullaby as you drift off to sleep after a day of hiking, paddling, or swimming.  There is no running water, you will have to bring your own drinking water. You will need to bring everything you require for cooking, eating and washing dishes. There is no sink, stove, or BBQ on site. As the site is off-grid, there are no appliances. There is a split log bench beside the self-contained fire pit.  Please bring your own firewood, matches/lighter,  and/or firestarter materials. Small fires only please, as this is a well-treed location. Fires must be extinguished prior to going to bed — there is a bucket by the firepit. If you are wondering if something is there, I suggest you reach out to check with me before arrival. There is a new private outhouse on site. The outhouse is past the bunkie along the path. Solar lights work with the flick of a switch — one switch by the door, one by the bed. You have access to 2 kayaks and 1 canoe, 2 adult lifejackets. These are located on the waterfront between the bunkie and the house @260 Matcheski Road. Please return these as you found them after each use. They are shared with the guests at the house. It is a natural shoreline at the bunkie, with a sandy bottom — pretty good swimming, actually! Absolutely no harsh chemicals/detergents in the water! Please leave the site tidy and as you found it. Take your garbage and recycling. This is a small lakeside community —  no loud music, please. Respect the solitude!  Please respect the natural setting — leave it as you found it, do not cut live growth.

This property was settled by the Irish in the mid 1800’s. Originally inhabited by Algonquin peoples the land was cleared for farming and they erected several building including a large German style hand hewn timber frame barn which still stands and is used today. The farm house was built in the 1910 and the original log cabins have been reframed into artistic buildings. It is wild to look around and imagine what life was like before now in a time when the land had no boundry lines and was traversed by indigenous peoples of this area. The cottage is at the edge of a large wilderness area. We supply an ultra-safe large canoe with paddles and lifejackets. It's an easy and fun 15 minute paddle to reach the cottage. The cottage is an artistic gem on a safe and quiet lake with beavers and loons and numerous bird species -- owls, herons, hawks, ospreys, and many migratory songbirds. In over 20 years of experience on the lake, we've seen no bears. It's a cosy three-room place with a small bedroom (8x12) with an antique double bed; a main room (16 x12) with a single bed; and a kitchen (8X12). Sleeps 3, max. Access to the cottage is up a short set of irregular stone stairs from the lake. This could be an impediment for elderly or frail people. The lake is not a private lake. There are other cottages. But it's a very quiet lake and often there's no one else there. The landscape is very similar to Algonquin Park's. North Kawartha is famous as the birthplace of the canoe. This is a thinly-populated landscape of rugged granite bluffs, thickly-forested hills and valleys, and gorgeous lakes that remain quiet and peaceful even during the hottest summer weeks. The soothing energy of rough hewn logs has to be experienced to be understood. It’s a special place, especially inspiring for writers and artists. The cabin sits on a hill on 64 acres of mostly forested land. It is in a private location about 50 meters from where you will park near our Guest House. There are other cabins approximately 300 meters away and not visible. When you arrive we will help you get your gear to the cabin. Bring a cooler for your food. The Upper Place is a 100 acre managed forest that is carefully stewarded and curated for diversity of wildlife, healthy trees, and healthy people. In addition to the red pine plantation, there are wilder areas to explore with mixed hardwood and seasonal streams. Bring boots to explore! Directly across the road is a large Mennonite Farm with fresh produce, syrup, eggs and pies! This property is large and I will usually have a chat to determine best placement for you/other guests depending on your needs and size of tent/trailer etc. But for now, I'm just started out and have the one spot with firepit. If you don't intend to have an outdoor fire, let me know and we can place you in another location! You must have a self-contained method of disposing of all waste. Leave no trace. No garbage collection. Some poison ivy and nettles in wilder swampy area far off the main path. I will provide a map...it's not likely you'll see it! You may encounter deer, fox, rabbit, fisher, partridge, turkey, coyote. Loved the history that was written on the walls of this bunk house. Stan took the time to walk us through running the different systems that we were unfamiliar with. The solar, the generator. Beautiful area for a fire. Tools from years past and Stan shared some stories with us too. Exceptionally friendly and my boys and dog had an absolute blast. Nice cool breeze in the evenings, some rain here and there. But such is nature. Stan checked in here and there to make sure everything was okay, but never intrusive. I told my boys it felt like we were just visiting our grandpa's place. Thanks for everything Stan and will definitely be visiting again.

Weekend Trip to Natural Joy! Cosy Canoe Cottage

We are so grateful we got to stay here! This place has been calling to me ever since I first saw the photos, and somehow it still managed to blow my expectations out of the water. Our gracious host, Paul, has created such a unique and magical little world. From the art-lined walls and endless books to the shared outdoor cooking spaces and the peaceful little yoga studio by the water, every corner feels thoughtfully curated. It’s full of treasures, and it’s obvious that the people who built and shaped this place are incredibly creative, interesting humans. The cottage has everything you could possibly want to feel comfortable and pampered while still being completely immersed in nature. We spent our days fishing and paddleboarding on the lake, watching baby loons, enjoying sunshine, moonlit evenings, and even making friends with the resident red squirrels. I almost hesitate to recommend it so enthusiastically… only because I selfishly hope it’s available the next time we want to come back! But truly, this place is something special, and we can’t wait to return.

Our experience was simply magical. Cosy cabin 2 was so quiet and private. The wildlife around us was vast and friendly. We even saw a moose! A bunny visited our site often as well. Lots of blue Jays and other birds in the surrounding trees. We would definitely return.

Paul's cozy place is a cabin of curiosities. It almost felt like we weren't supposed to be there because we had so much insight into someone's personal sanctuary. It has lots of rustic charm and quirks. We didn't get the best weather but still enjoyed the cozy vibes. If you're looking for a bit more comfort and less baggage than camping but still don't mind doing a little work for your comfort, this is for you. It's truly a hidden gem.

Beautiful place. Canoe ride was very easy and there’s a new guess cabin near the docks that makes it easy to spot. Paul provides very thorough instructions too. The place is well equipped and there’s even wifi (although you’d definitely want to take the opportunity to unplug there).

Just as described, perfect sturdy rustic cabin just feet from the water, amazing view. There are neighbours, but its well-treed between. We rented kayaks and packed around the island. Site also has its own pedalboat that seats 2. Katie was a great host, great communication, provided ample firewood and also propane for Coleman Stove, grills for field and cooking instruments. Only thing we didn't realize, we knew we had to bring toiletries but didn't realize that also meant toilet paper. Thankfully we brought some for other parts of our holiday. Outhouse was clean and spacious. We'll recommend this to others for sure.

We are long time tenters, but this year we decided to try something different and we found this campground with the mini cabins. I will stay here at the outset that we enjoyed this place very much and we stayed for six nights. The cabins are very well kept and clean and also very private. Fortunately for us, there were no other campers on site when we were there but even if the campsite were full you would still have plenty of privacy. The owners are also super friendly and helpful. We felt that the location was very Central to all of the other day activities that we carried out. We were able to visit several provincial parks during our stay and used this campsite as our base. We earlier had purchased a season pass for the provincial parks which paid for itself after just a few days. You can drive in several directions from this campsite and enjoy wonderful scenery, as well as several provincial parks. A brief ride into Bancroft if you want to re-enter civilization for a while and grab a quick coffee. Bancroft also has a wonderful little park right in the middle of town. Maynooth itself has several nice little shops that you can pick up some souvenirs or other essential items. Locals are warm and friendly. Bring extra water with you or pick it up at the entrance on the way into the campsite. Also, the mattress in the bed area may not be to everyone's liking and you may need some extra padding,so keep that in mind. We highly recommend this place.

Weekend Trip to Limerick Lake Camping

What an incredible property the hosts have! Everything was perfect. The renovated boat house was the perfect spot for us. From the cozy interior to the incredibly comfortable bed!! The side deck facing the lake with the firepit right there was amazing. I regret not bringing our fishing rods though. I would absolutely recommend this spot. The hosts were quick to greet us and bring us ice and firewood. We will definitely be back again! Thank you again for everything

Weekend Trip to Big Rock Eco Retreat & Campgrounds

Such a beautiful cabin and gorgeous land. We had such a great time building campfires, eating smores and walking around the property. The sky at night was amazing. Jason was very helpful and answered any questions we had in a timely manner. Bonus points: Rocky the dog is extremely cute. Would definitely return!
