This is a sweet little property of approximately an acre, though the whole lake is undeveloped. The site is treed with mostly mature trees and overlooks Little Robertson Lake. The lake is close, but the shoreline is not extremely easy to access. This campsite is private, but not remote. It is located close to a byway and you can drive in. There is not too much traffic on the adjacent road which leads to several white sand ocean beaches and trails along with Keji Seaside National Park and Thomas Raddall Provincial Park. All within a few minutes drive.

Oh. My. Gawd. Where to start?!
This is one of the original properties for the area. Owned by one lovely family since the 1700's until your current (very lucky) host. The house was the post office from 1861 to 1961. One of the rooms was the hospice for the area... SPOOOOOKY!!!
There is a culvert from the 1700's on the property from where the province moved the highway sometime before the 40's. Neat!
Reggie took over ownership in 2020 and is keeping things as original as possible, but adding his touch, like his battle axe travel trailer, Franny, which makes her home in the driveway. She's worth a visit!
- TENT ADVANCED LEVEL LAKESIDE is by far the most beautiful; however, it is a small area, located on the edge of the property, and I can't be responsible for the neighbours to a certain extent.
Fort Nova is your home for as long as you choose. Let's get campy!
**KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE MAY BE OTHERS STAYING THERE** But there are multiple areas to choose from, including: the lawn, living amongst the pines, a forest clearing, or even lakeside (it's rough back there). You can have complete privacy and feel free to reach out to me at the house if you need anything.
For those with RV's, there is an exterior outlet and a water spigot, but please remember, others might be staying there so we need to play nice and share!
On the property, there is:
- A decent-sized lake (I wish I had a canoe... :( )

This is a Backcountry Self Service Campground.
Gear must be hiked in.

At Stave Lake Campground, you’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful nature of interior southwest Nova Scotia. With only 5 sites, the campground offers a peaceful, back-country style camping experience dispersed amongst old growth hemlock, spruce, and maple with access to associated hiking trails around Stave Lake. With a canoe or kayak, the campground provides a great starting place for exploring the adjacent Tobeatic and Medway Lakes Wilderness Areas.
The campground is also a 10-minute drive from Kejimkujik National Park with dozens of maintained hiking trails, old-growth forest, and canoe and kayak rentals, and only 5 minutes from the 4-mile stillwater trail, a beautiful waterfront trail managed by the MCFC.
The Stave Lake Campground is operated by the Medway Community Forest Cooperative. Our mission is to support local communities through sustainable and ecologically based forest management. One way we strive to meet our mission is to manage the forest to maximize multiple economic, social, and environmental values - The Medway Community Forest Campground allows us to diversify revenue sources while protecting provincially recognized old-growth forest that surrounds a portion of Stave Lake!
The campground is a backcountry style camping experience with front country access. The farthest sites are about 500 meters from the parking lot. Gear must be carried in!
The campground has outhouses, firewood available for pre-purchase, and bear hangs for storing food.
Each campsite has a firepit, picnic table, and tent pad.
There is a lovely trail system associated with the campground. We recommend waterproof hiking boots as water pools in some spots!
Only firewood purchased at the campground is allowed in accordance with the Provincial “Don’t Move Firewood” campaign.
Campfires are permitted in accordance with provincial regulations. Campers must be aware of and follow the burning restrictions updated daily at https://novascotia.ca/burnsafe/.

This is a space to slow down. Camp by the river with your tent or fully self contained RV, and enjoy the peaceful river reflections and sounds of nature.
Roughing it, but not too rough. Solar lanterns illuminate the path to the water. Your stay will be completely private. The yard is fenced in case you have a dog.
Close to town but far enough away to feel rural. Reception but no wifi at the river. Set up a slack line or hammock in the daytime, explore the region, and enjoy a fire at night (currently there's a fire ban, scheduled to lift in October).
The river is fantastic for kayaking, canoeing and SUP. You can rent them in town, or BYO. I have one paddleboard available (and two life jackets) if you want to explore the water.

We own 58 acres of forest centered on a very old shale pit near Crescent Beach, Nova Scotia. Our long-term mission is to regenerate the landscape, returning all of the property to a forest in time. We hope to establish small camping compounds for family, friends and guests who would like to stay with us and enjoy the amazing scenery of Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore.
Located just below Huey Lake, our property is watered by a stream that flows from the lake, through a series of tiny waterfalls in a gorge, through beautiful pine, maple, and oak forest down to a meandering wetland that drains into the Petite Riviere watershed.
Beavers are active in the area and have already begun the process of returning the old quarry to the wilderness. Their activities have created deep ponds where once there was a pit dug from the land for the shale that is abundant in this area. The beavers dammed and diverted the stream which has created a pond and wetland system at the lower end of the property. If you are very quiet in the early morning you may get to see Castor as he busily swims about his watery home.
Located near some of the most beautiful features of Lunenburg County, our property is a 5-minute drive from Crescent Beach, Risser's Beach Provincial Park, and Petite Riviere. Opportunities to cycle, hike, swim, canoe, kayak, surf and sail are all around us.

Karen thought of every possible detail to make our stay comfortable. The Perch is incredible! A small tent could be set up at the top, or just lay out your sleeping bags! We used the 10x10 pad for our tent, which was close to everything. Kathy and I spent most of our time fishing from the dock. The lake was incredibly warm and great for swimming, bathing and boating. Just remember your water shoes! Potable water was provided, as well as wood for the campfires. The outhouse was charming and extremely clean. There was even an outdoor shower and a handwashing station. I loved the covered cooking station, complete with an attached bottle opener.
The dogs were right at home. The view of the lake was beautiful and so peaceful. We stayed 6 nights and still didn’t want to leave!!! Kathy and I absolutely love The Perch and plan to return next summer. You won’t find a better thought out site or a nicer, more accommodating host!

I recommend following Marks directions and not gps, but once we got straightened away we were fine, Mark was helpful getting us back on track.
This place is a hidden gem, well off the beaten path, was quiet, the lake was gorgeous and we highly recommend.

Beautiful, clean, and well set up site with a nice view of the lake. 4 &5 are close enough to each other to hear and see each other, but not on the whole site. Just something to consider for those wanting to be close to their neighbour's, and for those looking for more solitude. Either way you will have a beautiful hike, and a great space to camp with the bear hang nearby and clean outhouses

A lovely private and quiet place to set up camp! Sites are levels well with gravel and are a good size that also allows privacy from other nearby campers. I appreciated that the loo was nearby and easy to get to, even at dark. I would FYI folks that the road there is gravel with some potholes and I mention this because I drive a camry so it was slow going for me, but I didn't have any issues or concerns for being stuck. I always appreciate such a footnote, myself. Overall, it was the perfect choice for this trip to slow down and relax and I would definitely return!

The land itself is immaculate, untouched Forrest other than the paths, and essential spaces for camping. The tent pads are spaced perfectly to allow for some privacy. My crew canceled so I was in the perch alone with my dog. I did find the steps steep but even with my bad knees I was OK...i just went slow. I loved laying in the tent with windows open....the view is heavenly. Truly a piece of heaven carved out for you by amazing generous hosts. There are not adequate words to express how wonderful this place is! I will happily pay to carry my own poo again!!!! Lol p.s. the out house smells cleaner than any bathroom I've been in!

This was our first hipcamp stay and it was amazing. We camped in tents for 4 nights and although we had some rain we still had an amazing time. The lake is so peaceful and relaxing, and the camp feels secluded and away from it all, yet you are just a short drive away from beaches, parks, small towns with antiques, cafes, thrifting, etc. We will definitely be back again!

We had an absolutely lovely weekend at Hirtle Lake Cove 2, I couldn't have imagined a better spot. The lake was beautiful, we made good use of the paddle boards and swim raft, there was ample firewood, and the area isn't even overly buggy. The solar string lights were really convenient. It also felt extremely private! No complaints, exceeded all expectations - I hope we'll get to return another weekend!

Extremely secluded, private and gorgeous camping compound close to all the famous South Shore attractions like Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. We spent four nights at The Alcove and had the best time. The Alcove is better for those that prefer woods over water. Cove 1 and Cove 2 are better for water lovers. Despite staying in the woods, we got to enjoy paddle boards and a kayak on the lake when the other two sites were vacant. The host, Mark, was so considerate and communicated exceptionally. If you like privacy and are an avid camper, this campsite is for you.

We had an excellent time at Owl's Hollow Hut. The eco-glamping site was quiet, well kept, and had everything in the description. We particularly enjoyed the use of the canoe and the raft. Karen is a pro-active host and had all the instructions laid out well before our arrival. We'll be coming back next year :)
