Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. I currently have 4 camp sites, two of which have decks, and another site with one tiny cabin.
Please read:
The property is also a Bison farm and I have two dogs, Luna and Pyro, who are the campground security managers. They love people and other furry friends! Please note that this campground/farm are my dogs home, and they may wonder over at some point and say hello. Please do not feed them, and use good judgment if you are traveling with dogs of your own. Aggressive dogs will not be tolerated. If my dogs overstay their welcome, or if you simply aren't a dog person, please let me know and I can come retrieve them.
Potable water is available, directions to it will be made available after checking in. Also, if any of the sites, garabge bin or outhouse needs attention, PLEASE let me know. I ask that you don't leave bags of garbage on the ground after checking out since birds, dogs, or bears will take that as an ivite to make a mess looking for a snack. I do have a full time job that prevents me from being around 100% of the time, so with your help, we can ensure a clean and safe campground for everyone to enjoy. There is a metal dumpster at the end of the road that can be used if needed.
Points of interest nearby include:
Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park, Devonshire Beach. 5-10 minutes away. You can't say you've been to Slave Lake with out saying you've been to Devonshire. Endless amounts of clean white "squeaky" sand and shallow waters perfect for summer beach days. You will never find a rock on the beach or in the water. The southern end of the park consists of sand ridges and blowout dunes, behind which are a series of marshes and wetlands.
Marten Mountain View Point (Lily Lake Trail). 15 minutes away. By far the best view of the lake that you will ever get! At 1020 meters, Marten Mountain is the highest point of land for hundreds of square kilometers. From the Marten Mountain Viewpoint, you can take in a truly breathtaking view of Lesser Slave Lake and its forested slopes. The view point is also the trail head to get to Lily Lake, a medium difficulty 4 km round trip. The cozy lake is stocked with trout and is an excellent afternoon adventure.
Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation. 5 minutes away. It is one of Canada's northernmost bird observatories and is one of the only boreal forest bird observatories in the world. Nice walking trails and a great information center with stunning architecture.
Gilwood Golf Course. 2 minutes away. Neighboring the property is an 18 hole golf course with a clubhouse and restaurant.
Activities nearby include fishing, hiking, wildlife watching, swimming, and so much more!

The well water is plentiful, potable and very rich in minerals. It leaves orange staining and a white residue where the water sits (think toilet/shower/sinks). It is cleaned thoroughly.
I provide bottles of reverse osmosis water in all cabins for drinking and to use in kettles/coffee makers.
Shared full kitchen/washroom with shower available, walking trails (bush trails), screened shared gazebo, hammocks and picnic tables.
Now with a pool! (subject to conditions).
Separately, the ‘Beaver lodge’ and Camping sites are located down river on 5 acres of mowed grassland next to 10 acres of wetland. Room for multiple mobile campers.

We are excited to share our Alberta landscape with its beautiful sky, empty fields, and close up nature details.
Hillwinds House is a cozy Nordic-inspired cabin located on the edge of the Meeting Creek valley. The cabin is nestled in the trees on a 5 acre piece of land.
The cabin is completely off-grid with a wood burning stove inside to keep it warm. The kitchenette has everything you need to prepare meals: a gas stovetop, sink with gravity water faucet, and a YETI cooler stocked with ice packs to keep your food cool.
To access the king sized bed in the loft, a sturdy ladder must be climbed (see photo). Loft and ladder are “use at your own risk.”
A wood burning sauna is located just steps from the main house. Walk out on the wrap-around deck and light the fire in the sauna to get your sweat on. During the winter months, a snow bath is recommended for refreshment. (it feels so good!) We also have a handheld shower to rinse off with after the sauna. A wood-burning hot tub bathing area is available for bookings from May to October, and no hot tub is available in the winter months when it is too cold to change the water for each guest.
There is a dry flush toilet inside the cabin (in its own bathroom) so there’s no need to freeze your butt off in an outhouse. Sanitary wipes and hands sanitizer are conveniently located in the bathroom with the wash basin in the nearby kitchen.
As a guest at Hillwinds House, you will have full access to the entire 5 acre property.

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat
The yurt was a perfect mix of camping and glamping. I needed a weekend away that didn’t require all the work that usually goes with it and this was exactly that. Geri and Pat provided wood and the site had a bbq, plates, cutlery, some pots and pans, and a battery to charge my phone, and the yurt was so comfortable. My dogs and I got to explore the network of trails on the beautiful property and I loved that the yurt was secluded in the forest. I brought my own camping chair just for my own comfort but there are chairs and a picnic table. The outhouse was clean and didn’t smell. A tornado touched down north of the property (near Rocky Mountain House) and they made sure to message me to let me know that that was happening and that I could shelter with them if I need to. Just amazing hosts! I will be coming back!

1 night at Collinswood Retreat
What a beautiful relaxing spot!! The Happy Hut was the perfect size for me as a solo traveler and the bed was super comfortable. The outdoor bath was amazing, it took a while to fill to a comfortable level but that’s expected! Bathing in nature is a must! The bathroom was close by and very welcoming for an outdoor bathroom. No harsh smells and very clean.
The Happy Hut wasn’t as private as I thought however this actually worked out for me in the end, as a solo female traveler it was comforting to know I wasn’t completely isolated in the woods! Very much enjoyed my relaxed evening sitting by a fire and soaking up nature.

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat
My experience at the yurt was exceptional. It was the perfect blend of camping and amenities. The barbecue, utensils, provided firewood (and axe), along with the roominess of the Yurt made for a carefree comfortable. The yurt is in a secluded clearing in the wood so you feel like there is nobody else around yet the area has a lot of trails in case you need to walk somewhere. The hosts were very friendly and I would definitely recommend this rental.

Carmen was very welcoming, thoughtful, and accommodating! This was an absolutely lovely little retreat with lots of attention to detail both inside the cabin and out. We got to watch birds, feed squirrels, and enjoy a beautiful evening under the stars with the glowing ambiance of the fire table. Carmen also gave us some great recommendations for local sites, and we had a wonderful time exploring. Would highly recommend the Chickadee Chalet to anyone looking for a little getaway that is not too far off the beaten path but still feels like a relaxing escape into nature!

1 night at EWC Retreat Space
Had a chance to stay in the Dreamers Geodome and our host Jana & her husband (sorry forgot the name) were fantastic! The dome was so cozy and the sauna was amazing after a long day. We opted to purchase breakfast in the morning from them and it was delicious. We only came for a night but I can’t say enough good things about the experience we had. We even got a tour on a ATV & opportunity to see some ojibwe spirit horses. Truly a hidden gem! 🤩 We will be back this summer or fall. Thank you both so much!

Weekend Trip to Nature Alive Adventures and Camping
Our stay at Nature Alive Adventures was absolutely wonderful.
The property is beautiful and peaceful, with an abundance of wildlife that made every day feel like a true nature experience. Whether relaxing on the grounds or simply enjoying the scenery, there was always something to appreciate.
The hot tub was fantastic, and the shower facilities were spotless, modern, and very well maintained. After a day of exploring, it was the perfect place to unwind.
Our cabin was beautifully appointed, cozy, and thoughtfully equipped. The bed was exceptionally comfortable—one of the best sleeps we've had while traveling.
What truly made the experience special were the hosts, Dale and Colleen. They were warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about ensuring guests had a memorable stay.
If you're looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature, comfort, and outstanding hospitality, I highly recommend Nature Alive Adventures. We can't wait to return!

Amazing experience and having no phone service was a great feeling.
There land was set up very nice and they truly thought of everything you would need while staying there! Meadows was great only thing you truly need is food and yourself!
Miranda’s land is truly beautiful as well with lots to walk around and see.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Springs Retreat & Guesthouse
My boyfriend and I had a very last minute booking but Barb was very kind and accommodating. We were lucky enough to have the whole space to ourselves well except for Barb’s dog, Fox, who is just the most affectionate and behaved companion out there. I would recommend booking the sauna it was very relaxing and for 2hrs it is quite worth the price, Barb even offered to let us shower in her house after if we wanted. The beds were very comfortable and provided plenty of warmth during the night. Overall it is a great site to book with lots of field and plenty of things to do.

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat
This is my second time staying at Collinswood, and a second glowing review of their property. The forest yurt is incredibly beautiful and well themed, and the feeling of seclusion is a lot of fun! It’s like the outside world is a completely separate planet. Geri and Pat put in a ton of work to make this place a wonderful time and it shows in every little bit of their sites, from the inclusion of board games to the cute themed slippers in the yurt. I’m already thinking about my next visit, and we just got home! If you’re looking for a fun weekend out under the stars for you and a few others, I don’t think there’s a better place to stay than here.

My bestie and I hosted a bachelorette party at Nick’s camp, and it was hands-down the best decision! This was our very first RV experience, and we were completely blown away by Nick’s incredible hospitality. The RV was immaculate and well-kept, and the site itself offered total privacy.
The highlight was definitely the massive firepitperfect for a big group to gather around. Nick was an amazing host and even provided us with free firewood, which was such a thoughtful touch. Our stay was so comfortable and fun that our only regret was not staying longer! We are already planning to come back for a much longer trip this summer. Thank you, Nick, for making our celebration so special!
