Little Slice of Heaven

3 sites · Lodging3 acres · Calgary, AB
A little slice of heaven - that was what one of my neighboring ranchers called the place I live as we were chatting while he pulled me out of a ditch one winter morning. I couldn't have said it better myself. This place is truly peaceful. We have a beautiful 3 acres that back on to a 15+ acre lake and natural wetland, with a private dock. There is a woodland area that borders the property and runs along the lake with a path, peaceful nooks, and a secluded duck blind. There is open grass space and a fire pit + seating and picnic table near the lake. For Accommodations... You have your choice of two camper trailers. The Mallard sleeps 3-4, and The Terry can sleep up to 8. Both have fully functioning kitchens and washrooms. They are hooked up to solar charged batteries that will run all the basics inside (plug ins, heat, lights, radio, etc.). We also have a generator available if you require use of the air conditioning or microwave; we provide 30L of gas for the generator, which used as needed will last 3-5 days, or more. Additional gas is available for an extra charge - current gas price plus 15%. For Fun... We have kayaks, a pedal boat, fresh horseshoe pits, ladder ball, bocce ball, a few board games: monopoly, scrabble, crib, connect four, and some art supplies: a couple of easels, canvasses, paints and other crafting fun! If you like bird watching this is the spot for you! Many nest along the cattails, easily visible from the shore or the dock, and there are Bald Eagles, Great Horned Owls, and lots of Hawks in the area. We are happy to lend you our binoculars and bird book! If you are more into relaxation, we also have a hot tub, infrared sauna, and inversion table on-site. Your host, Desirea Marie is also the founder of Forged Soulutions and would be honored to enhance your stay by scheduling you in for personal relaxation and transformation services. She provides Foundational and Restorative Yoga, Reiki Healing, Belief Re-patterning, and Relaxation Massage, starting at $49 for 30 minutes and with special package options for our HipCamp guests! We also have a small flock of beautiful laying hens, a small greenhouse and garden, with fresh eggs, some herbs, vegetables and houseplants available for purchase - based on season and availability.

Glamping in Alberta with hot tubs guide

Overview

The glacier-topped peaks, aqua lakes, and scenic campgrounds of the Canadian Rockies draw most of Alberta’s visitors, who come to explore Banff and Jasper national parks. And beyond those parks, this western province is worth visiting to hike through the Canadian Badlands’ unusual rock formations; delve into the region’s indigenous heritage; road trip along the Cowboy Trail; or visit Dinosaur Provincial Park. Alberta’s largest cities are Calgary, a 90-minute drive from Banff, and Edmonton, four hours from Jasper.

Canadian Rockies

Alberta’s most popular region includes Banff and Jasper national parks, drawing visitors from around the world to Lake Louise, the Icefields Parkway, and other scenic spots. The town of Canmore, 20 minutes’ drive from Banff’s south entrance, is a good place to get supplies. Waterton Lakes National Park borders Montana’s Glacier National Park south of Calgary and across the border in the U.S.

Southern Alberta & the Canadian Badlands

The gateway to the Rockies, Calgary is also a short drive from the Canadian Badlands, where you can explore unusual hoodoos and rocky canyons. The region around Drumheller and Dinosaur Provincial Park, where Canada’s early dinosaurs were unearthed, has plenty to interest paleontology fans.

Central Alberta

The center of the province includes Alberta’s Cowboy Trail, where cattle ranches are still active and you can trace the area’s cowboy past. Visit Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site to learn about Alberta’s heritage as a fur trading hub, as well as its indigenous First Nations and Métis cultures.

Northern Alberta

Edmonton is the jumping-off point for both Jasper National Park and the province’s vast north, where remote Wood Buffalo National Park extends into the Northwest Territories. But you don’t have to go far to delve into the wild—just outside Edmonton, more than 1,000 bison roam the protected prairies of Elk Island National Park.
