Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. We’ve hosted weddings, and family reunions. We hope you appreciate how special this place is. Come see for yourself!

This is a place to get away from a busy life.
With close proximity to Winchell Lake, this land is ideal for fishing, hiking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
We have 4 campsites available for tent or RV/trailer campers. If you're bringing an RV, we have two power outlets and water available. You will be parking on a field and the site requires levelling.
Electricity and firewood are both available for purchase (see extras below). Please add this to your reservation at the time of booking.
Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome. Potable water, picnic table, and outhouse are all available.
We have cows, goats, chickens, horses and dogs and cats on the property that
generally love people. :) I have only one dog and typically allow dogs to run off leash. We do have to be careful that it doesn't turn to a dog gang as this happened once and they took down one of my goats. The goats Hon and Chewy are okay but it took months for poor Hon to heal. I also worry about the chickens and the cats so please keep and eye on your dogs!
Lots of treed areas for private camping, horseback riding hiking and walking!
Bird watching is big around here as we are on a bird migratory path.
We are just above Winchell Lake and less than 10 km from Water Valley Golf Course and Saloon.
Please recognize that you are visiting a Ranch not a campsite. We are sharing our piece of heaven with you and you are helping to support our animals and their heaven.
Chickens are "True" Free Range and hand fed every morning. Eggs are $10 a dozen to pay for their feed. :)
Every spring the rain tends to cause ruts and washes out some of the road on the way to the back forty where the meadow is. We gather rocks on the property to fill the ditches but the early part of the year the roads can be bumpy. Please ask the conditions of the road when you book if you have concerns. Thanks!

I currently have 4 camp sites, two of which have decks, and another site with one tiny cabin.

The property is also a Bison farm and I have two dogs, Luna and Pyro, who are the campground security managers. They love people and other furry friends! Please note that this campground/farm are my dogs home, and they may wonder over at some point and say hello. Please do not feed them, and use good judgment if you are traveling with dogs of your own. Aggressive dogs will not be tolerated. If my dogs overstay their welcome, or if you simply aren't a dog person, please let me know and I can come retrieve them.
Potable water is available, directions to it will be made available after checking in. Also, if any of the sites, garabge bin or outhouse needs attention, PLEASE let me know. I ask that you don't leave bags of garbage on the ground after checking out since birds, dogs, or bears will take that as an ivite to make a mess looking for a snack. I do have a full time job that prevents me from being around 100% of the time, so with your help, we can ensure a clean and safe campground for everyone to enjoy. There is a metal dumpster at the end of the road that can be used if needed.
Points of interest nearby include:
Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park, Devonshire Beach. 5-10 minutes away. You can't say you've been to Slave Lake with out saying you've been to Devonshire. Endless amounts of clean white "squeaky" sand and shallow waters perfect for summer beach days. You will never find a rock on the beach or in the water. The southern end of the park consists of sand ridges and blowout dunes, behind which are a series of marshes and wetlands.
Marten Mountain View Point (Lily Lake Trail). 15 minutes away. By far the best view of the lake that you will ever get! At 1020 meters, Marten Mountain is the highest point of land for hundreds of square kilometers. From the Marten Mountain Viewpoint, you can take in a truly breathtaking view of Lesser Slave Lake and its forested slopes. The view point is also the trail head to get to Lily Lake, a medium difficulty 4 km round trip. The cozy lake is stocked with trout and is an excellent afternoon adventure.
Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation. 5 minutes away. It is one of Canada's northernmost bird observatories and is one of the only boreal forest bird observatories in the world. Nice walking trails and a great information center with stunning architecture.
Gilwood Golf Course. 2 minutes away. Neighboring the property is an 18 hole golf course with a clubhouse and restaurant.
Activities nearby include fishing, hiking, wildlife watching, swimming, and so much more!

Explorer David Thompson led his expedition through this area in the 19th century. We spent 1 night tent camping on Keiths farm yard, and it was nothing short of Fantastic!! The yard has a perfect blend of trees and open grass for lots of nice little spots for folks to set up. The fire pit area is quite big and perfect for everyone to gather 'round, and Keith kept the wood pile well stocked and even some newspaper weighted down on the picnic table nearby for a super easy time starting a nice flame going. The on-site porta-potty for campers to use for a washroom was immaculate and was also kept very well stocked. The farm fresh eggs from the chickens that Keith gave us were incredible in the omlettes we made in the morning, too! Just an all around perfect trip, thank-you so so so much for your hospitality Keith!

When we arrived we were met by Keith and he showed us to our spot. He explained all the rules and what was in the area.
The campground was gorgeous and well taken care of. Lots of social time around the campfire.

What a beautiful relaxing spot!! The Happy Hut was the perfect size for me as a solo traveler and the bed was super comfortable. The outdoor bath was amazing, it took a while to fill to a comfortable level but that’s expected! Bathing in nature is a must! The bathroom was close by and very welcoming for an outdoor bathroom. No harsh smells and very clean.
The Happy Hut wasn’t as private as I thought however this actually worked out for me in the end, as a solo female traveler it was comforting to know I wasn’t completely isolated in the woods! Very much enjoyed my relaxed evening sitting by a fire and soaking up nature.

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat
My experience at the yurt was exceptional. It was the perfect blend of camping and amenities. The barbecue, utensils, provided firewood (and axe), along with the roominess of the Yurt made for a carefree comfortable. The yurt is in a secluded clearing in the wood so you feel like there is nobody else around yet the area has a lot of trails in case you need to walk somewhere. The hosts were very friendly and I would definitely recommend this rental.

Geri & Pat and their friendly security pooch Piper were very welcoming and helpful. Shady Nook was perfect for me, and I wish I could have stayed longer! I took a long walk around the property and enjoyed the unique sites and happy vibe they have created. I’ll be back :)

Such a warm welcome by a delightful family. We had the chance to pet the cattle and even ride a horse! Our RV was parked at one end of their land, in full privacy. My daughter said it was the best camping site ever.

Laura and crew were awesome! Met us at the gate and got us all setup. We stayed here and made the 2 hr trip to Banff and had a great time. Very quiet, and comfortable atmosphere. Definitely recommend !

We had a great stay at the Tall Tree site near Sylvan Lake. The campsite was quiet, private, and surrounded by beautiful trees, making it feel peaceful while still being close to the lake. The site was clean, spacious, and well maintained, and the host was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It was the perfect spot for a relaxing camping trip, and we’d definitely come back again

Laura was so sweet. We enjoyed a community bond fire the first night and on our last day Laura invited us in a walk through the woods with the goats. The woods were lovely. The community site is as advertised- a shared site with more than a handful of stored travel trailers.

The area was absolutely beautiful, toilets were clean and stocked, spots were well maintained and everyone working on site was friendly. We had a beautiful experience and had a ton of space to stretch out and play lawn games, soak in the nature and explore the river.
Another plus is the proximity to both Calgary and Bragg creek which was delightful for a quick post-workday setup.
My only note is that it’s a bit pricey considering there aren’t a lot of services and amenities but overall a gem that I’d recommend.

This was a last minute booking and I am beyond glad that I picked here to stay. We stayed in a full service RV lot. Both electrical and pump out was easily accessible from the site. Lot was clean and very accommodating for a 26ft RV.
Atmosphere was very fun and welcoming, we loved everything about the resort.

I had such a fantastic stay with my husband at this campsite. The host Gord was so accommodating and friendly. I had a bit of a mix up in bookings on my end and he still came down to the campsite late at night to help us with our stay. I'll absolutely be going back 😁

Carmen was very welcoming, thoughtful, and accommodating! This was an absolutely lovely little retreat with lots of attention to detail both inside the cabin and out. We got to watch birds, feed squirrels, and enjoy a beautiful evening under the stars with the glowing ambiance of the fire table. Carmen also gave us some great recommendations for local sites, and we had a wonderful time exploring. Would highly recommend the Chickadee Chalet to anyone looking for a little getaway that is not too far off the beaten path but still feels like a relaxing escape into nature!
