Our guests are welcome to feed some of the farm animals which include sheep, alpacas, chooks and peacocks. Watching the kangaroos foraging in nearby paddocks is one of the truly special experiences of a visit to The Grange on Kalgan.

Welcome to Rocky's Retreat! Our little hobby farm is 28 acres with views to the Porongurup Mountain Range. Tucked away in quiet Takalarup, we are surrounded by nature, in particular - amazing bird life! Kangaroos are often seen jumping through the paddocks on dusk. The sunsets from the campsite over the Porongurup Ranges are a great way to finish each day at Rocky's Retreat. Meet our friendly resident sheep - pellets available to feed them, and they love pats!
We only accept one booking at a time to allow our guests privacy and plenty of space.
Well-behaved, socialised, on-lead pets are welcome too.
We are located approx. 40km from Mt Barker, 50km from Albany, 15km to Porongurup National Park and 45km to Stirling Range National Park. Within a short drive you can find incredible local wineries, cafes and restaurants. The property makes a great base camp for day trips to Denmark, Albany, Mt Barker, Stirling Ranges and the Porongurup Ranges. If you are wanting to cool off at the campsite, a swimming spot on the upper Kalgan River is 800 metres down the road.
Please note - we have recently undertaken significant native revegetation around the camp site, planting approx. 6,000 native seedlings for native flora and fauna habitat. Therefore, the site looks different to some of the previous photos showing open paddocks. Please refer to the photo in our listing taken in Summer that shows the native revegatation with tree guards around each seedling.
Campers must be self-contained, with their own in-built camp toilet, and leave no trace. Dump points are available in Mt Barker and Albany. Telstra works in most areas. We don't take bookings for tents/swags by themselves at this stage.
We look forward to welcoming you to stay at Rocky's Retreat. The property is new for camping and we are always looking to improving our offering, so we would love your feedback.

The property is on the lower side of Ulster rd. It is a shared driveway so please turn left into 219 not right as this is the neighbours ... drive down the driveway past the 3 cottages and parkup on the left hand side of property. Please do not drive on the lower grassed area.
We currently run self-contained cottages on the property, although we have a lovely spot in the far corner of the property that we can offer for a fully self-contained caravan or RV.
The site offers these guests views of a large lake equipped with kayaks, a paddleboat, and 6 acres of landscaped grounds.
This central but peaceful location allows you to enjoy everything that Albany offers; Beaches, amazing hiking, history, fishing, bike riding, and more.

There are a total of 14 sites to choose from. Toilet facilities are available. There are also bush showers. Please refer to the site descriptions for more details as some have access to greywater outlets, others are for the fully self contained.
We can welcome a small/medium breed dog per booking, however, they must be on a lead, and never left unattended and, of course, we ask that you please be responsible for picking up your dog waste.

Big Nanna's Vineyard is another great hip camp. Plenty of room to choose a great spot to camp. The views are great, the hosts are very friendly and so are the hilarious Guineafowls.

I had a fantastic stay at Thistlebank Estate, and Kathryn and Steve were such great hosts!
I booked the "East Facing" site which had nice green grass to set up on (a rarity in the middle of summer!), HEAPS of room, and overlooked the lake.
I'd definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for somewhere peaceful around Mount Barker. :-)

The campsite was very private and peaceful. There was a lake with some very gorgeous ducks. It was very close to everything in the Mount Barker area. I would definitely like to go back soon. Also, Kathryn and Steve gave us a present of home grown produce.

Had an amazing stay at Mondurup Escape, absolutely beautiful farm with a view of the vineyards. Toilets were always clean, and had a bush shower that did the job. So peaceful and only a few pitches to camp on. The host was great came round to check we were all ok and invited us to a wine tasting on the evening. It was a lovely experience and he was a great guy to chat to. About 40 mins drive to Denmark and Albany so spent the day there. Would 100% reccommned this place.

Beautiful bush site, small but beautifully cosy with an amazing view of glimpses of the ocean. Some of the best beaches near by. Great to be between Albany and Denmark. Sporadic noise from the nearby road but otherwise very quiet and peaceful and loved being the only campers.
If you’re going in summer make sure to pack the nets and tropical strength spray for the many midgies! Otherwise couldn’t have been a nicer place. Host was clear communicator and very friendly. Thanks ☺️ 🙏

Weekend Trip to Booyiup Eco Retreat Torbay
We absolutely loved this magic place, surrounded by nature and lulled in the evening by the sound of frogs.
Karen and Simon are lovely and they design the train carriage with all you need and some seasonal produce from they orchard.
