Direct access to the neighbouring National Parks and State Forests offers an array of day trips to hikers, mountain bikers, or horse riders where they can discover the natural treasures of Basket Swamp and Boonoo Boonoo Falls, Woolool Woolooni, among others. For those who require a little more comfort, and lets face it we all do at times, the Mindoo Cabin is available. Featuring three bedrooms, open plan living/dining/kitchen,and a shady deck overlooking the River the cabin sleeps eight and still allows visitors to partake in all the adventures that "Mindoo" offers with the benefit of a comfortable rest when the day is done. Unfortunately horse riding is no longer covered by our insurance policy. You are able to bring your horses, however evidence of your own insurance policy must be provided. Be as adventurous or as restful as you please as both options are freely available. Mountain Biking, Hiking, or just riding your hammock and relaxing we are sure you will enjoy your time at "Mindoo". All of our river sites are designated and are space apart. As most of our sites are on the river and have farm tracks to access, if it is wet we may have to move you to a different site. 4wds are recommended for all sites and are required for some site. If you do not like dogs or your own dogs are not very sociable Mindoo may not be the place for you. But if your dog is not friendly or is likely to venture into someone else camping area, than will have to be on a leash. If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them. One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities. Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m high waterfall, nature at it's best. In the vicinity you have the Clarence river at Paddy's Flat Road and Hootons Road within minutes drive from the property. The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road. Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away. Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km. Once a working cattle property, in 1993 was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise. Two properties combined with close to 2800 acres, fronting Paddy’s Flat Rd for 2km and extends 7km to the back fence bordering a 22000 acre cattle property. The front section is undulating with plantation forest (spotted gum) and bushland, towards the back it has mountains, steep terrain and millions of trees with spectacular views and great hiking tracks.

We absolutely loved EdenVale shearing shed ! The accomodation was exactly as we hoped- it was clean , comfortable and the shed had and an old world rustic charm that we loved coming back To after our days out each day. The location and views were just perfect and sitting outside around the fire with the fairy light over looking the fields was super relaxing. We cannot fault eden vale and the hospitality of John and Victoria and will be back for sure !

Philipp was such a genuine soul and made our two-night stay in the Strawbale with my dad an absolute treat. I had very specific requirements when booking. I wanted somewhere peaceful where we didn't feel like we were staying in a crowded caravan park with people on top of us, and this was exactly that. I was there to spend some quiet time grieving the loss of my mum, and Philipp's kindness, warmth and genuine hospitality made a difficult time that little bit easier. He was incredibly friendly, accommodating and nothing felt like too much trouble. The Strawbale was beautifully warm despite the freezing temperatures outside, and everything exceeded our expectations. Arriving to find Philipp had already lit the fire on the patio was such a thoughtful touch and the perfect welcome. We genuinely felt cared for throughout our stay. If you're looking for peace, quiet and a host who truly cares about his guests, I can't recommend this place highly enough. Thank you, Philipp, for making our stay so memorable.

Incredible views of the river, access to kayaks and canoes and wildlife in abundance. We saw Greater Gliders, Bilbies, Wild Boar (babies! Super cute), Pademelons, Kangaroos, Platypus and Turtles. The bell tents were beautiful with comfy beds. Spectacular stay.

I spent 8 nights staying at Jess’s cabin and I was reluctant to leave. It’s got everything you need and is exceptionally comfortable - good mattress, kitchen, fireplace and a balcony to chill out on. There are a few walks you can do around the property including exploring Rocky River. The spot is private and has kangaroos and cows passing by…though Jess isn’t too far away if required. I’d highly recommend staying.

What an amazing hidden gem! The drive in was quite long and rocky, and we even thought we might be on the wrong road. But when we arrived, the beautiful mountain views, river, trees, and birdsong made it all worthwhile. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, especially with the wood fireplace keeping us warm at night. We loved being surrounded by nature and enjoying the peaceful forest setting. The free kayaks were a great bonus, allowing us to explore the water and take in the stunning scenery. In the evening, we sat around the campfire and enjoyed the incredible starry sky. It was a relaxing and memorable stay, and we would definitely come back again. Highly recommended for anyone looking to escape the city and enjoy nature. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Weekend Trip to Clarence River Wilderness Lodge

What a beautiful place to stay! The cabin was absolutely stunning, and although it was quite cold during our visit, there was a fireplace inside the cabin and another fire pit outside that kept us warm and cosy the whole time. The scenery was breathtaking, and at night the stars were spectacular. We could even see the Milky Way stretching across the sky, which was an unforgettable experience. The canoes were a fantastic addition and provided hours of fun for both me and the kids. Being able to get out on the water and take in the peaceful surroundings made the stay even more special. A big thank you to Sharon and Steve for such a wonderful stay and for sharing this little piece of paradise with us. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and will definitely be back. P.S. If you happen to look in one of the corners of the roof, you'll find a little red speaker we accidentally left behind 🤭. It's up for grabs if you or another guest would like it! I loved the place so much I forgot all about it.

We love camping here! This trip was forecast for lots of rain and thunderstorms and it was my birthday so didn't particularly feel like being soggy so we upgraded and stayed in the tiny house which was such a treat! Has everything you need. And the fire heated hot tubs by the river are just such a special thing to add to any camping trip. Hosts were lovely as always, we will keep coming back ☺️

We had such a wonderful stay in your cottage , it was truly a special experience for our family. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared with all the essentials we needed, including milk, butter, coffee, sugar and other little touches that made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. We especially loved meeting all the friendly animals around the farm, and the farm cats were absolutely adorable. They brought so much joy to our stay. One of our favourite memories was sitting around the campfire at night under the beautiful sky full of stars. It felt peaceful, relaxing, and like a true country escape. It was such a lovely opportunity to slow down and enjoy nature. Thank you so much for creating such a warm and welcoming place. You can really feel the care and effort you’ve put into the property. We’re very grateful for this experience and made some beautiful family memories here. We would absolutely love to come back again in the future.

Nice drive on the country roads from the camp site. Some great walks and wee bit of passive four wheel driving and nice history at the end of the drive.
