The facilities of the camping are quite luxurious some guests labelling them "better than at home" so you can enjoy the bush experience & still have the comfort of a home. Here you can discover amazing wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, cockatoos, lyre birds and a lot of other birds (designated bird drinking stations through a WIRES program which has a lot of success.) Bring a camera and take in the incredible sights such as wildlife, cliffs, caves, and a magical view of Mount Yengo and Moruben from the top of the property. They are designated walking tracks around the property with all variable lengths & difficulties. The property is located less than 2 hours from Sydney, 20 mins from Cessnock and the Hunter wineries, adjacent to Sugarloaf Conservation area. You'll love the morning and evening birdsong and be surrounded by the colour green by day. At night, be lulled by the music of the froggy symphonies, watch the moon rise over the forrest, and being mesmerised by the warmth and dancing light of a fire. Wallabies visit at dusk and dawn and a Koala has been heard calling at night. A 1km drive from the main road leads to the open living space. There are two cabins, just within sight of each other, a campsite with an outdoor kitchen shed and a large oval lawn. The Sky Cabin (blue) has a very comfortable queen size bed, a large deck, bbq, composting toilet, small equipped kitchen, solar lighting, hot and cold running water, an outdoor hot shower, and slow combustion fireplace inside. The Earth Cabin has an exceptionally comfortable queen size bed, deck, composting toilet, solar lighting, a slow combustion fireplace inside and running water outside a short distance away. If you want to include Belle tents in your booking rather than bring your own you have the option to add those to your booking and we will set them up for you with lighting included, though you will need to BYO beds and bedding. The campsite adjacent to the shed has running water, an outdoor shower and outdoor toilet. The property has short (circular) walks through the bush, and access to Sugarloaf Conservation area (with further walks and access to the Great North Walk). But its the ideal place to just chill. Surrounded by National Parks and completely free of cars and traffic, this is a beautiful little retreat, perfect for a family or a group of friends to meet up and re-centre. At Bar Point, there are no shops or cafes, so you must bring everything you need with you. Basic pantry staples such as salt, pepper, cooking oil, etc. are provided. Kayaks, fishing poles and crab pots provided. Our own private residence is a separate apartment upstairs; there are no shared walls or internal stairs, and you will have your own private entrance. As it is a large, old wooden house, you may at times hear us moving about upstairs. We try to be as quiet as possible when we have guests visiting. We will leave you entirely to yourselves, but if you do need any help or information or even a little guided walking tour of the locality, we are very happy to accommodate you. Our sauna deck is a shared area which guests are welcome to use. Heating the sauna takes an hour or two, so just let us know, and we will get it all ready for you with fresh towels, scented oils and branches of freshly cut lavender or wormwood to create a beautiful ambience.

Weekend Trip to Cranky Rock Hunter Valley

Such a beautiful experience! We loved our stay here at Cranky Rock. The cabin is so unique with so many cool details, the more you look the more you find. The property is also incredible! We stayed with our dog who loved the horses and we also spotted multiple deer which I’ve never seen before so was thrilled about that. The hosts Pam and Lindsey were so welcoming and lovely, made us feel so at home. The best part, it’s dog friendly so you can bring your fur babies! We had such a great time here and thank you so much for having us 🩷

Weekend Trip to Wombat's Forrest

A wonderful place surrounded by nature, very cozy and perfect for disconnecting from daily life. The cabins are comfortable, very well equipped, and have everything needed for a peaceful and enjoyable stay. Being able to enjoy the fire pit makes the experience even more special and relaxing. It is definitely an ideal place to unwind or for a weekend getaway. I highly recommend it and would absolutely love to come back.

Lovely shack creatively situated on a rocky outcrop beside the McDonald river. It has all the charm of a yesteryear hideaway. It’s an experience not a polished hotel, think secret mountain recluse, take your book, your art stuff and a bottle of wine. we loved the bush views and sounds, the location and the quirk! Swimming in the river near by, zipping into town for a coffee or beer and enjoying the cute town of St Albans. Loved it so much we can’t wait to come back!

2 nights at Wanderlust Retreat

Beautiful place. We would definitely go back again for some peace and quiet in the wilderness. Distance is not too bad as well given that it’s only 2.5 hours away from Sydney. Only thing I would want to have differently would be a quick touch up on the trail markers/ropes for the nearby trail. Some of the trees where the markers/ropes are placed have fallen. Nonetheless still an amazing place. 15/10 overall!

2 nights at Wombat's Forrest

The Property was amazing and my friends and I had an amazing time. The place had so many things already there so we could come relatively light with just couple things extra. We enjoyed time around the campfire and exploring the vicinity. Lucy had left one of the belle tents up for us which was great because we needed an extra space. The lights around the property lit up nicely at night and having hot showers and hot water to wash was so good to have. 100% recommend to go and we will be there again.

Fantastic place with friendly and helpful owners - everything's been thought of. The 2 cabins are well equiped, clean and very comfortable. There's several different places set up in the shade with seating, fireplaces and sinks/taps. Lots of good camping sites. Highly recommended - we'll be back!

Our stay in the malee cabin was perfect! Matt and Jenna are super friendly and helpful. The land was beautiful and we loved that we could explore some bush tracks on the property. The amenities were nice and clean and they even have a family friendly shower room which was really helpful! We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed a ur stay at this unique and quite spooky place in mountain shack. We were intrigued by the whole maximalist vibe of the house and loved everything about it. It was peaceful we had everything we needed and our host were communicative and great which made everything perfect

Wombat Forest was the perfect get away for our 2 families. Camping for the kids & glamping for the adults. The place is beautifully set up, with lots of space for families to come together around the large fire pit or disappear into a secluded corner to chill. Perfect stay. Thank you Lucy.

We absolutely loved the shack! It was full of life, art and amazing sculptures and it was so lovely during the summer. Lots of animals and insects around the place, so definitely felt like the whole place was alive and happy! We had an amazing time.

Weekend Trip to Halifax Hill

We absolutely loved our stay at The Mountain Shack & having the whole place to ourselves in the middle of nature. It’s such a unique property — full of charm, quirks, and thoughtful touches. We spent the evening playing board games and drinking wine by candlelight, which made it feel like we’d stepped back in time (a little spooky, but in the best possible way!). There’s plenty of space to explore, we ducked into the nearby town to the Settlers Arms pub during the day, where there was live music playing in the courtyard, it was lovely. The hosts were incredibly communicative and helpful throughout our stay. If you’re after a rustic, one-of-a-kind getaway, this is it.

I wish we didn’t need to leave a review- as then we could have this remaining a secret. But that would be mean because it is super lovely and we are thankful for Lucy and family- for their amazing property. Quiet, private, thoughtful, beautiful. Birds galore, lovely detail and simplicity. Really really loved our stay.

Weekend Trip to Halifax Hill

We stayed here with our three children. While it wasn’t the most ideal setup for a young family, the quirky, back-to-basics charm really shone through for our 5- and 8-year-olds. No phones, no iPads – just fire, play, and conversations. With St Albans only a few kilometres away, we were able to enjoy a day of adventure there, as well as Wisemans Ferry, where the girls loved paddling on the sandbanks by the park. The shack itself has loads of charm and would be especially perfect for a couple or a small group of adults wanting to cook, share a bottle of wine, relax, and soak up the nature all around. We still thoroughly enjoyed our stay with the girls – and they did too, which is the main thing. The host was super communicative and responsive, and we were well looked after. Shack charm – a winner.
