Set at the base of the mountains on a beautiful valley floor, located in wine country in the lower Hunter Valley, Cranky Rock gets its name from a 25 tonne sandstone rock that graces our home. The 120 acre working beef and horse farm is situated a scenic 2 hour drive North from Sydney or 1 hour East from Newcastle. Whether you chose to stay of one of our campsites or in our pioneer-style cottage, all visitor being awoken to the natural bush sounds of lyre birds and cooling their heels in the crystal creek at the bottom of the property.  On your way in or out, be sure to check out the boutique village of Wollombi which is just 10 minutes from Cranky Rock, where you'll enjoy wine tasting, fresh produce and quaint cafes. Other must-see's in the area include the Olney State Forest and the Wattagan National Park. The property is located just off a scenic drive, over a 2wd accessible creek crossing. It is peaceful and secluded. Campers can used shared kitchen and bathroom facilities located at the top of the camp area. Dogs are welcome, but as it's a working farm, we ask the remain on leash at all times.

The campsite wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Finding the location was a little confusing, especially as I had no cell service. You need to go through a shut gate, over a creek, and up a dirt trail to get to these sites. The kitchen area was a bit bare and the shower was a lengthy walk or little drive from the campsite. Once we ran into the owner of the property, we were directed to a camping spot. We got to meet some lovely horses and cows. The toilets were easy to get to throughout the night and clean. I was very happy staying for a night! I would make sure I have a more self contained camping set up if I was to book again. My pup loved munching on grass alongside the horses.

Great spot to stay with fantastic views. Big open areas. Hosts very welcoming and checked all was ok. Amazing how this area has recovered from being 5m underwater just a few months ago. The shower between a rock and a hard place was a bit of a walk but worth a visit!

Such a quiet location, beautiful surroundings to wake up to and only a short drive into Wollombi for a coffee in the morning. Compost toilets are new and clean but there is no longer any shower (that we could find!). Make sure you follow the address that Lindsay and Pam send through to you because the link from Hipcamp actually takes you to another place! Definitely will be back!

Lovely weekend w/ our dog
Great weekend camping over the weekend with friends and our dog. Lovely vista, and the hot shower (between a rock and a hard place) was lovely. Lindsay and Pam were great hosts and ensured we were well looked after. Would certainly go again.

Pretty spot but minimal facilities
The hosts are lovely and very picturesque site, however there is only 1 flushing toilet and shower which is poorly signposted and not at all near our camp-site. There are plenty of drop toilets nearby but would of been nice to know this. Also the signage for the sites aren't very clear so 1 of our party (who arrived at night) with their caravan had to awkwardly turn around and find us. Also there is minimal shade in the paddocks, so bring a marquee if you are going to be there in the middle of the day. It is a lovely spot however that is close to wollombi town that has some nice shops.

Loud obnoxious music festival here
Pam and Lindsay have done a great job running their farm stay. They are warm and welcoming. However, we stayed at this farm during a loud music festival ‘Bush Doof’ which blasted obnoxiously loud music until 1am in the morning (breaking rule 9: no loud music or sounds after 11pm.) there were hundreds of people yelling and screaming until 1am. This was so loud, that I had to drive away and sleep in my car. It was not compatible with a family friendly environment, and if we had known this massive loud festival was taking place, we never would have booked at this farm stay. The location is nice, the owners are welcoming, but there needs to be open communication if they are hosting a massive music festival right next to families and quiet campers who wish to relax amongst nature and the scenery. One of the worst experiences I’ve had while camping.

Great views from camping in the valley at Crank Rock. Close to Wollombi, which has just enough cafes, stores and a good tavern. Would camp there again

Great Escape for the Weekend
Linday and Pam were so helpful - they were on-call at anytime that I called which is so helpful when you need help in the middle of the night or a crisis! My Friday did not start well, with a broken down caravan and traffic resulting in turning up to dinner late. But they were so accommodating and helpful to ensure I could get to site on time. Toilets are conveniently located just outside the sites you are allocated. Lovely views all around, and enough space for campers to set up with enough space in between for privacy. would come back again !

The land is absolutely beautiful, the camping sites are clean and the grass is well kept. Lindsay and Pam were very organised and helpful considering all the rain and tricky roads. I will be definitely coming back to Cranky Rock.

A wonderful campsite with a stunning view. Lots of space to spread out a camp site and not feel to cramped in. Clean toilets close by for campers and fire wood available for a small fee. It was a bit of a wet weekend on the farm but Pam and Lindsay did a fantastic job at maintaining the tracks and helping people out when they got stuck in the mud. The hospitality was spectacular. Pam and Lindsay were quick to respond to any issue that might pop up and are extremely accommodating ( Even if you accidentally get stuck in the river crossing). Worth noting there are showers but they are on camp site 1. Highly recommend Cranky Rock Wollombi. Thank you Pam and Lindsay for sharing your beautiful property!

Leisure camping
We have a wonderful time at Lindsay and Pam farm. They were kind, cute and hard-working. Even the coverage of signal in farm is poor, thats what Lindsay and Pam wanted us to enjoy little moment with ourselves, families and friends. The farm is well organise, big and beautiful, each site has 1-3 toilets. We don't need to walk so far for toilet. I will visit again. Thank you Lindsay and Pam. <3

Unfortunately we camped at cranky rock after a major flood event, & the grounds were very muddy. It rained on & off over the weekend, which added to the mess. It’s the first time we’ve had to be towed IN to camp. We still made the most of it & had a great time. We’d like to return when the ground is dry, so we can experience cranky rock at its full potential. Only negative is the one shower located well away from where everyone was camped, & because of the wet conditions it was difficult to access.

A great place to really chill out. Very spread out so you’re not on top of your neighbours. The dirt road in was very muddy and the creek crossing was a bit dicey for 2 wheel drive cars because of the rain. But Lindsay did an amazing job guiding each and every car in and towing those that needed it so that everyone regardless of what car they drove could enjoy their camp site.
