There is a cosy fire with wood supplied The winter days on the mountain are spectacular but the nights can get cold so bring warm clothing. The bird life is plentiful with many rare and amazing species either visiting on their annual journeys or calling it home such as the yellow tailed black cockatoo. Several species of wallabies graze around the cabin in the early mornings or late afternoons. Elands is a quiet village with an eclectic community, a Post Office and General store. Our closest town being Wingham is approximately 40 minutes drive the last 16 klms up the mountain is unsealed. It is suitable for all types of vehicles but can be rough at times. The cabin has mobile phone service for those with Telstra or Aldi SIM cards. We have 3 generations of family living on our property and we are only interested in hosting a single female or couple. We have for many years hosted helpers on our farm but now are offering it as a short term stay (2 nights minimum) We are completely off grid and try to live in a simple manner with solar, tank water and an outdoor composting toilet. We are only just starting to rent our cabin out and so far have no reviews but have many 5 star reviews on other platforms such as HelpX Unfortunately we don’t allow pets as we have our own dogs on the property who have grown up with the surrounding wildlife and pose no threat. 600 metres above sea level on clear nights it feels like you are close enough to touch the Milky Way! The cabin is off grid, includes a small kitchenette with 2 burner gas stove, fridge, double bed and 2 single beds. We have a BBQ and fire pit. Hour and half from Port Macquarie and Forster and one hour from Taree in the hinterland from Wingham or Comboyne (coming from Port Macquarie). The Bulga Plateau is the place to unwind, swim in mountain rivers and enjoy the Old Growth forests. In the hinterland of the Mid North Coast NSW on Biripi Country Balgarr means mountain in local Gattang language. This is rustic living, no flash flush here but a practical long drop eco-friendly compost toilet and a fantastic gas hot water shower out in the elements! You will need to bring your own bedding, pillows sheets etc. we are on tank water and at times it is low! Dogs are welcome but please bring their own bedding. The property is also home to local wildlife and filled with lots of old trees, plants and flowers whilst enjoying your morning cuppa on the balcony. As we are 45 minutes from the closest town, you will need to fuel up before you head up the mountain. Also bring drinking water and all the food you will require for your stay. Loads of walking tracks nearby; the Legendary Ellenborough Falls is 5 mins by car or half hour walk through the Elands Village. There is an endless network of gravel roads and fire trails waiting to be explored, taking you through the national parks, state forests and undulating farmlands of the Bulga Plateau. This delightful self contained cabin is a perfect getaway for you to work on your project, (longer stays can be negotiated) be it visual art; a book; a film script; photography or simply forest breathing to clear the mind. Blue Knob (Kaoraoa) at 1014 metres, is one of the highest peaks in the forest with Panoramic Plateau Views of the surrounding country 40 mins by car. I'm retired now and appreciate even more, living in paradise. The usually good amount of rain, the ever warmer summers when we can swim in the Ellenborough River. Yes after 40 years on the Bulga I can feel the changes in the environment. Come and enjoy!

We had such a lovely stay at Ellenborough Cabin. The cabin was beautifully decorated, and I loved all the unique touches throughout. It felt like there was a little bit of everything you might need, just in case you forgot something at home. It was almost like a collection of thoughtful items left behind by previous guests, which made it feel very welcoming and homely. The cows were absolutely adorable and were a real highlight of the stay. My daughter loved every minute of being there and didn’t want to leave! The only suggestion I would make is to add a sign at the main driveway entrance and another at the gate to the cabin, as it was a little tricky to find at first. Other than that, everything was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We’d happily visit again!

Weekend Trip to Ellenborough Getaways

My husband and I have now visited the Mountain Shack 3 times and every time we have been blown away by the stunning view! John is a wonderful host, always helpful and quick to respond. Dave the caretaker also ensured we had plenty of firewood. The shack had a wood stove to keep warm on cooler nights, and you can bask in the sun on warmer days. Very friendly cows and our 2 dogs had a fantastic time. Will be visiting again very soon.

The property is beautiful and Barbara is a lovely host. Her dog Hunni is gorgeous and super friendly. It was exactly what I was after: quiet, calm, lots of birds, and rustic cabin vibes. The cabin itself is beautiful, lots of timber inside with high ceilings and spacious.

Weekend Trip to La Maison Gloucester

We had such a lovely stay at La Maison. Francois and Renee were very kind and welcoming. The apartment was clean with plenty of room and facilities to cook for ourselves. The view was lovely. It was very peaceful looking out of the hills and listening to the cows mooing. We could only stay one night but will be back next time we want a retreat in the country.

We loved staying in the church, it is simply unique and swimming in the pristine river so refreshing! Graham and Chris are so lovely and very hospitable, little touches such as vases of fresh home grown flowers and herbs make it special! The bucket shower is the best!! Dinner cooked over an open fire was delicious.

Weekend Trip to Mountain Top Cabin

I went on a trip to Sharon’s beautiful home and was very pleased, unfortunately we had to cut our trip short due to severe weather and needing to return home. The location is perfect for a hiker or nature lover just a few mins from Elands town. It was a beautiful little cabin nestled in nature. Sharon was friendly, flexible and very attentive to any questions or queries. Admittedly we took a wrong turn on the way there and after contacting her for best way to get back on track she was waiting at the front to welcome us. With a scenic cabin and amazing host would definitely recommend

Stunning location and close to world class wilderness and natural beauty. The Shearing Shed has everything you could ever need, very cosy. Louise was very welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. She is very knowledgable about local history, and natural history also, and the shed is replete with printed information and maps.

We really enjoyed our time at Graham and Chris’s property. It’s a lovely place and the log cabin was very cozy and a lovely place to stay. Graham and Chris were very welcoming and checked in on us every day to make sure we had everything we needed ; even bringing us beautiful mandarins from their garden and worms to fish with! The river was a nice place to have a swim and skim some rocks. We will definitely be back. Thank you

2 nights at Manning River Retreat

Chris and Graham were so hospitable. Chris met us with organic tomatoes from her garden and Graham checked in daily to ensure we had what we needed. The church itself is amazing and very comfortable. The river is a 5--10 minute walk away and we headed down each morning for a delicious swim. However our absolute favourite was sitting by the fire under the stars at night. We were blessed to have amazing weather whilst we were there. I would thoroughly recommend staying in the church, it's an amazing experience. I did overlook the fact that no power means no plugs to charge a phone, and I hadn't bought a battery pack. However, Graham kindly showed us where we could use some power sockets up near their house.
