Our venue and campgrounds are situated at the old Jimna State School property. The school closed in 2009 with the last students attending in 2006. It was then sold by the Qld government and has been rezoned as a Camping, Recreation and Events Venue. We have retained all the old school facilities for our campers to enjoy. There is a children’s playground and multi-purpose tennis court for everyone to enjoy. We provide tennis rackets, balls and basketballs free of charge to our campers. There is also no charge or fee to use the court. On most Sundays afternoons (weather permitting), we have social tennis where everyone is welcome to join in.
The old school toilet blocks have the addition of hot showers and all toilet facilities are the flushing type.
Campfires are permitted and there are small mobile fire pits provided so wherever you set up camp you can have your campfire right beside you.
Note: There are no ground fires permitted and at certain times of the year Qld Rural Fire brigade may enforce a total fire ban.
We have our “Caffeine Injection” kiosk on-site for the weekends and school holidays. Get your morning caffeine fix as well as bagged ice, firewood, ice creams, snacks, cold drinks etc etc
Then we have the old school principals residence aka “The Bush Holiday House“. It is fully self-contained and all linen is provided.
Just BYO food & drinks. We offer this for one night stays and longer.

Near to our camping grounds, is the old School Principals residence, a comfortable country holiday house. It is fully self-contained with all you need. Games for the kids, movies and books. It has 3 bedrooms with 2 x queen beds and 2 x single beds, as well as a foldout double sofabed in a separate sunroom, as well as room for an extra floor mattress if required.
There is so much space for you to use (2.5ha) so a lot of time can be spent outdoors! There are good bush walks and a bush swimming hole nearby, campfire, a tennis & basketball court and play areas for the kids - all for you to enjoy. This is a safe, quiet and peaceful place.
The house is fully fenced although unfortunately, we do not allow pets. We made this decision due to health and safety issues considering future guests that may have allergies.
This holiday house is a great option for groups, where some want to camp at Jimna Base Camp, while others prefer something a bit more comfortable!
Jimna Base Camp is a beloved spot for campers looking for a peaceful retreat with plenty of activities for all ages. Pete, the host, is frequently praised for his hospitality and the well-maintained facilities, including a tennis court, playground, and hot showers. Campers appreciate the expansive space that allows for privacy, even with larger groups present, and the onsite coffee shop is a welcome convenience. The location offers access to beautiful bush walks and nearby creeks, making it a favorite for families and solo campers alike.
We spent a night at Jimna base camp and it was terrific. The facilities are very well kept, the cafe was great, Pete was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. There is lots to see and do fairly close by. The camping is spacious and no check out time meant we didn't have to rush out in the morning.
Great place, relaxed, plenty of space, great facilities close by. Most spots on the oval get shade in the morning or afternoon, so it would be hard to get a bad spot. Cricket pitch between all the sites means some epic games in the afternoon.
Pete is a friendly host always happy to help out or give you advice on the area.
We’ll be back for sure.
This was a great spot to camp. I was camping solo, but it would be perfect for large groups. Motorbike friendly too!
Good location for dirt bike adventures in the local forests around Jimna, Imbil, Conondale and Kenilworth.
Pete has done a fantastic job converting a former school into a great camping community. The facilities are well maintained, the camping set-up let's you have shade, and keeps a large space in the oval for games and kids to run around. Highlights for us are kayaking in the creek, and the sunset walk. Highly recommend Jimna Base Camp.
Lovely quiet location. Lots of great walks and creeks / water holes around. Interesting history. Very helpful and friendly host. Handy coffee shop / ice / firewood and other essentials onsite was very helpful as nearest town is 1/2hr away. Freshly baked scones with jam and cream were out of this world!
We had a great Stay at Jimna Base Camp. Took my 8 year old boy camping and we both had the best time - mountain biking, kayaking, swimming, tennis and basketball. Great Spot and Great Facilities.
Great location and camp set up.
The facilities were great for families. Pete was very welcoming and such a friendly host.
Will definitely head back again.
Love the space the oval provides as more campers joined us it still didnt feel crowded. Toilets/bathroom were very neatly kept and always stocked. Cooking and wash up area provided everything you need in case you forgot your own. All in all an amazing place to camp will definitely be back at some point
I needed a break away from the hustle and bustle of the city and Jimna Base Camp was the absolute perfect location! Spotlessly clean amenities and plenty of room. Peace and tranquility, surrounded by trees and birds! Pete’s hospitality was 5 star, and I absolutely loved my time there! Gorgeous bush walks, swims in the creek, chats over coffee with the locals all adds to the appeal! Will definitely be back!
Pete the host, have good knowledge around the campsite able to show us spot to see sunset and creek.
Campsite has good facilities such as tennis court, clean shower and good camping ground
I had such a nice stay at this campground :) It was my first solo(+dog)camp but it was fun and comfortable stay because facilities were good. Owner Pete was gentle and gave us his hiking suggestion. Thank you so much !
Absolutely an amazing place to camp, relax and enjoy the surroundings. My 30th birthday was spent here at the base camp and I set up a “Australian Survivor” weekend for the friends that came.
Pete was very helpful, informative and interested in what was going on. I would recommend this camp ground to anyone that will listen.
Thank you very much Pete, i will be seeing you again soon!
Pete is an absolute legend. A great host. Jimna Basecamp is a wonderful spot with everything you need. We had a great time and will definitely be back. Thank you for having us.
The amenities were great. The host and locals were friendly. A great little creek not too far down the road which would be a lovely swimming spot in summer
This is one of the best campsite with very friendly host, clean and well maintenance amenity include few clean flush toilets, hot water shower and kitchen appliance that you can use. It is definitely a great experience and the host, Pete share a lot of local story with us and his coffee is the best in Jimna. :D
We will definitely return and recommended to who have family with kids and pets.
(Just don't bring the Karaoke machine here. :P)
We had a lovely time at Jimna Base Camp, was a great area for kids, Pete has it well setup. There was a great community feel, with many games of cricket on the oval or tennis on the court.
Great spacious oval to camp on, surrounded by shady trees on the west. Nice clean amenities. Lovely to sit back and look up at the stars, falling stars and the occasional satellite drifting over.
Jimna Base Camp is a beautiful retreat away from the busy city. The camp is an old school that Pete has done an amazing job converting into an events centre and camping grounds. There are plenty of amenities for children and adults alike including a playground, basketball court, tennis court, and large playing field. Whether you're stopping in for 1 night or a few, there's something for everyone in the family. Pete is very welcoming and friendly and made sure we were comfortable for the duration of our stay.
We had a perfect camping trip during Easter weekend. The site is spacious with clean toilets, showers with hot water. We played Basketball, Tennis and Cricket. We also explored the nearby Somerset Dam. Firepit, Wood, Ice, Coffee and snacks available onsite. During the night, store your food in the car or tent to prevent animals stealing your food. We would love to come back here with a bigger group next time :)
