Weekend Trip to Hut Amongst The Gum Trees

Gorgeous spot for birds and quiet serenity. We loved using the fireplace and the sound of the rain on the tin roof. Megan was attentive and welcoming while also giving us our space. We’d stay again in a heartbeat.

Weekend Trip to Carrum Downs Motel & Campground

It's a normal Caravan park. Good spot if you are spending the day out in Melbourne and use the camp for sleep, toilet and showers. The place is kept neat and tidy and there some residents permanently staying there as well. Wouldn't suggest if you are spending the day at the camp as it's not as same as bush camping.

I felt really welcomed at reception when I arrived and was given a flat, level caravan site and a helpful park map which was simple to follow. The free wi-fi was a bonus. I really liked the security with a code for the boom gate to keep the hoons out. Will definitely go back another time.

Great park! Fantastic location next to a large lake that is great for swimming, close to shops and cycle tracks and the people running the park were lovely too. Nice little playground for the kids, facilities were old but nice and clean. All in all i would definitely recommend it to others travellers.

We loved our stay at Tuki, we camped right next to the pond. Alistair and the crew were so accommodating, and quickly helped us organize a power connection, we ended up in a slightly different spot due to other campers who had spread out over our spot but they helped sort things very quickly and easily, special mention to the chef who we borrowed some power from who bought me a wine on arrival! Loved this place and the people! Views were amazing, was nice, quiet, peaceful place to camp.

Absolutely loved my stay here. The view is a 10/10, the perfect spot to watch the sunset each evening. The campsite itself is well laid out, peaceful, and really well maintained. What really made it though was the restaurant, sublime food and fantastic service. Couldn’t recommend it more if you’re after a relaxing getaway with a great view and delicious meals.

A lovely secluded cabin stay! Very cosy and an off-grid vibe with beautiful nature and local fauna surrounding you. There’s an easy 3km nature walk nearby and only a short drive into the surrounding local towns. It wasn’t cold enough when we were there, but there’s a large indoor fire place and big outdoor fire bit to get cozy during the colder months. Megan and her husband were lovely and attentive hosts and have great insight into the local wildlife. There is no wifi and the cabin has solar-powered lights, so it’s perfect for a weekend escape. Highly recommend!

Perfect place to stay for nature lovers. With an inside wood heater and verandas this hut makes a cosy stay winter stay away. A 40 acre bush block with a Trust for Nature Covenant. This box-ironbark woodland block has 2 dams and plenty of wildlife, a great place for bird watching. The hut has a double bed (bedding provided), gas stove with two burners and a grill, a long drop toilet, water tank (not drinkable) but drinkable water will be provided. The hut is close to one of the dams. Only one booking at a time so you won’t be sharing camping site with anyone. Owners live on the property but out of view and ear shot. A picnic set, kettle, billy, camp stove and saucepan available for use. Solar lights inside, internal wood heater outside fire pit. Note no shower. There are great bike rides off and on road, close to Cairn Curran (15km) for fishing and kayaking, also plenty of bushwalks and bird watching sites nearby. Newstead 5km away whilst Daylesford, Maldon and Castlemaine are about 25km away. Astronomy evening offered ($50 for 90min) on suitable evenings ie. no moon and clear skies.

Please also consider that the mobs of kangaroos that roam the property include some large bucks (boomers) that can be confrontational if surprised so please proceed with caution if approaching grazing animals.
